Daddy’s Hangout Presents the End of the Year College Football Rankings

NCAA

My last post was all the Bowl games from December 30th to the BCS Championship game and my record was 11-9 and dropping my overall record to 71-41, which is 30 games over .500 but I was aiming higher. Everything started great when I started 9-3, but I finished 2-6 in the final bowl game and the only BCS bowl game I predicted correctly was the Championship game. My overall winning percentage dropped dramatically from 65.2% to 63.4%. Now with the Bowl games being over and the season is finish, here are my top 10 teams to finish the season.

fsu-logoThe Seminoles are the #1 team in the nation finishing with a 14-0 record. Florida State was the only team to finish undefeated and they are the 2013 National Champions and they ended the SECs run of 7 consecutive BCS Championships!!! They have arguably the best player in the nation in Heisman trophy winner and Freshman QB Jameis Winston. We don’t know how the draft will impact them next year but RB James Wilder and WR Calvin Benjamin, who caught the game winning TD in the championship game and the leader of team in TD catches. Also, they should have a great recruiting class coming in and all the coaches seem to be staying intact so they could be making another run next year.

Michigan_State_LogoMichigan State is my #2 team in the nation, finishing with a 13-1 record by capping off the great season by beating the Stanford Cardinal in the Rose Bowl. The only loss came back in September when they loss by 4 points to Notre Dame and they advanced to the Rose Bowl by beating Ohio State in the Big 10 Championship game ending their 21 game winning streak. They finished the season with one of the best defenses in the country and they only gave up a little over 13 points a game. They should be the favorite along with Ohio State in the Big 10 next year and with any of top program, how will the NFL Draft affect them?

Auburn_TigersThe Auburn Tigers is the #3 ranked team in the nation and almost came away with the BCS Championship. If you watched the game like me, then you probably thought they were on their way to claim the championship and the 8th BCS Championship in a row for the SEC. With Tre Mason entering the NFL Draft, will more of his teammates follow him into the NFL? With QB Nick Marshall returning, will the Tigers maintain having one of the top rushing offenses in the country seeing they were the top rushing team in the country. The defense was criticized but they played well against the Seminoles until the last quarter and a half of the BCS title game.

missouri-tigers-alternate-logo-3-primaryThe Missouri Tigers will be my #4 team in the nation after beating the Oklahoma State Cowboys 41-31 in the AT&T Cotton Bowl. The SEC East champion Tigers boasted one of the top receiving cores in the nation and they ranked in the top 20 in the nation in scoring averaging 39 points a game. The defense had probably one of the most aggressive front 7s in the country because of the way they got after the opposing QB. After having a tough first year in the SEC they had an historic turn around and they could be poised to have a great season next year. With the other top teams in the country, the NFL Draft is around the corner and I haven’t heard about anyone leaving early and making the jump to the pros.

SouthCarolinaLogoI have to go with the South Carolina Gamecocks as my #5 team in the country after they beat the Wisconsin Badgers 34-24 in the Capital One Bowl. Connor Shaw played really well this year leading the Gamecocks offense whether it was his decision making, throwing the ball or running when he needed to. He finished the season with 24 TDs and 1 INT, which is unbelievable and I know he doesn’t get talked about like other QBs entering the NFL but he’s a solid player. He capped off his career in the bowl game with over 300 yards passing, almost 50 yards rushing and 3 TDs thrown. The defense played a key part of their successful season also.

clemson-tigers-paw-logoThe Clemson Tigers come in as my 6th ranked team in the country after a tough, hard fought win over the Ohio State 40-35 in the Discover Orange Bowl. In the bowl game all the talk was about Ohio State QB Braxton Miller being the big time dual threat, but Tahj Boyd showed he was just as good as Miller. Even though Boyd threw a couple of INTs he still managed to account for over 500 yards of offense and 6TDs with 5 of those coming through the air. The MVP of the bowl game was WR Sammy Watkins with his record setting game of 16 catches for 227 yards and 2 TDs. Both of those guys are gone and the offense will have some rebuilding to do, but they enjoyed a really good season.

UCFThe 7th ranked team for me will shock some but the UCF Knights capped off a 12-1 season with a win over then 6th ranked Baylor in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl 52-42. Their only loss of the season came at the hands of South Carolina and they only loss by 3 points before winning the final 9 games of the year. If QB Blake Bortles were to leave school early he’s considered by many NFL Draft experts to be one of the top QBs taken and possibly in the top 5. With them making a BCS bowl was very surprising because everyone had Louisville winning their conference and playing in the BCs bowl game. This was the schools most successful year!!!!

oklahoma-sooners-logoThe Oklahoma Sooners are the 8th ranked team in the nation to finish the season after upsetting the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Allstate Sugar Bowl 45-31. How many people actually thought the Sooners would beat the Tide? Yes I’m guilty of thinking the Tide was going to roll all over the Sooners in that game. The Sooners finished the season in the top 20 in the nation in rushing averaging over 220 yards a game on the ground. Next season look really promising after Freshman QB Trevor Knight threw for almost 350 yards and 4 TDs against the Tide. Going into next year the Sooners could be one of those teams vying for a playoff spot and a contender to win the National Championship.

University_Of_Oregon_LogoThe Oregon Ducks are the 9th ranked team in my top 10 after another successful season that seen them go to the Valero Alamo Bowl and beat the Texas Longhorns 30-7. Once again the Ducks had one of the most dynamic offenses in the country and didn’t miss a beat even though their coach bolted to the NFL. They ranked in the top 5 in scoring with over 45 points a game, while giving over 20 points a game. The rushing offense ranked in the top 10 with under 274 yards a game, while averaging over 290 yards a game through the air. The best news came to them when QB Marcus Mariota announced he’s staying in school, he was projected to be a 1st round pick.

alabama-logoThe final team in my top 10 is the Alabama Crimson Tide despite losing their final 2 games and finishing with an 11-2 record. The Tide lost the Iron Bowl against Auburn when they missed the long FG as time expired, only to have the kick returned 109 yards for a TD. They loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Allstate Sugar Bowl 45-31 and that was the final game of QB A.J. McCarron. The Tide had dreams of hoisting another championship when the season concluded but that wasn’t the case. The Tide is still a top 10 team to finish the season but they’ll have a lot of questions to be answered going into next year after players declare for the draft, like who’s gonna replace McCarron and will the defense get back to dominance.

There you have it, I finished the season with a winning percentage of over 63%, which was still 30 games above .500 but I was aiming for 70%. Here’s how my top 10 look!!! Hope you come back next year!!!
