Monday Night Raw Review from University of Texas August 2014

Monday_Night_RawHere is another edition of Monday Night Raw from the University of Texas where we’re less than 2 weeks away from the Summerslam PPV. Last week, Raw wasn’t as great but we get to see how things will shape up as we get closer to the PPV. We will get to see the next chapter in the Stephanie McMahon/Brie Bella feud that ended Raw last week and we’ll get to see them hype the WWE Championship match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar. Let’s Get Started!!!!

Good

The Opening Segment: Triple H really hyped the Summerslam PPV with the matches he announced some of the top matches including the Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose match. He was really having fun with the crowd also with the plugging of the WWE Network for $9.99. Stephanie took the mic and she definitely got a reaction out of the crowd also. Roman Reigns interrupted after Orton grabbed the mic and started to gloat about taking him out. This prompted Triple H to make a Last Man Standing match between Reigns and Kane.

Roman Reigns vs. Kane: This was much different from the opening matches we’re used to seeing on Raw. They had a pretty good match where they beat the hell out of each other. The crowd was definitely into it and Reigns was busted open and later he revealed he needed 6 staples to close the wound. Reigns picked up the win after getting the hell beat out of him by Kane.

Brock Lesnar Sit-Down Interview/John Cena Hype: Straight to the point interview where he talks about what he’s about, what he wants and how he’s going to beat the shit out of John Cena. They provide great video packages throughout the night that make this match means so much more.

Damien Sandow vs. Mark Henry: I can understand this with football season is here and the big rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas, Nice to see Mark Henry back and I wouldn’t mind seeing him in the stable with Kofi, Xavier Woods and Big E. A few years back he was probably the best heel with his Hall of Pain gimmick.

Dean Ambrose vs. Alberto Del Rio: This was really a good match between these 2 and I really wish they would find something for Del Rio to do because he’s a good wrestler. How great is Dean Ambrose? How big could he be with a proper push? I know they view Reigns as the future star but Ambrose has the biggest potential in my opinion.

Rusev/Lana/Swagger/Zeb: This continues to be one of the best feuds going on in the WWE. This was another great segment and I’m looking forward to their match @ Summerslam.

Bo Dallas vs. R-Truth: This has actually been pretty good what Truth & Dallas have going on. I’m interested to see where this goes from here on out.

Heath Slater vs. Seth Rollins: I actually like Heath Slater and think he’s a helluva worker so maybe I’m biased. But with Dean Ambrose interfering and getting inside the head of Rollins by defacing the MITB suitcase, Slater managed to pull off the upset in this match. I’m sure Rollins will eventually beat the hell out of Slater in the future because of this.

Stephanie & Brie Contract Signing: This has been the highlight for the 2nd straight week to finish Raw. My only gripe is with the Triple H involvement and seeing that there’s no male to help out the Bellas when Triple H gets involved like he did during this segment. Otherwise, this really was a good segment and the stakes are higher now.

Bad

Dolph Ziggler vs. Cesaro: Now if you usually say Ziggler/Cesaro you know that match will be good. But it was a quick win for Ziggler, which I’m glad that Ziggler won but I hate what they’re doing with Cesaro with all these losses. Hopefully this will lead to something good for him in the end. It was a nice exchange between Miz & Ziggler after the match and I’m looking forward to their match @ Summerslam.

Chris Jericho vs. Luke Harper: This match wasn’t long at all or maybe I expected more from these 2. With the DQ finish that means the match between Jericho & Bray Wyatt will be without Harper & Rowan at ringside.

Ugly

Stardust & Goldust vs. Rybaxel: Pretty meaningless match between these 2 teams that have no direction.

Fandango vs. Diego: Not this again!!!!!!!!!

All the plugs for the WWE Network: It was fun when Triple H was mentioning it during the opening segment but I didn’t think it was going to be the theme of the night. They’re really desperate now!!!

Overall Rating: 7/10- Slightly better than last week but it was a pretty good overall edition of Raw. We saw a pretty good opening match between Roman Reigns and Kane, also what is up with Kane giving his mask to Stephanie again. This video package for this upcoming WWE Championship match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar was really put together well and I’m looking forward to their match. Dean Ambrose is that dude and hopefully they give him the chance to shine like he can and they may find their next big star in the process. The segment between Zeb Coulter/Jack Swagger & Lane/Rusev was really good and I’m also looking forward to their match also. So far the build for Summerslam has been better than any other PPV they’ve had in a really long time. I don’t know if this is meant to be that way or they’re doing this because of the renewal subscriptions for the WWE Network is coming up.

Top 5 Happenings from Raw:

1) John Cena/Brock Lesnar Package
