WWE Royal Rumble 2015 PPV Review

2015 Royal Rumble poster

Welcome to the 1st PPV of 2015 as we have the Royal Rumble hailing from Philadelphia, PA. Was really looking forward to this PPV because there were many possibilities heading into this with a good Raw leading into the PPV especially for the WWE Championship match. Let’s see how things played out!!

New Age Outlaws Ascension 2015 Royal Rumble

This match was setup on Monday Night Raw when the New Age Outlaws attacked the Ascension after they threatened to jump Hall, Nash & X-Pac. In this match the New Age Outlaws looked pretty good but in the end Viktor and Konnor picked up a much needed win over a legendary team. Winners: The Ascension

Match Rating: 2.5/5- This is a much needed win for the Ascension instead of beating jobbers but they still need to face the Usos, Rhodes Brothers or New Day.

Usos Miz/Mizdow 2015 Royal Rumble

This was another good match between these 2 teams and even more comedy from Mizdow at times. But there were times that Mizdow became serious and I see a face turn in the very near future. The finish came when Jimmy kicks Miz and then hit a powerbomb and splash from the top gives The Uso’s the victory. Winners and Still Tag Champs: Usos

Match Rating: 3/5

Paige & Natalya vs. Bellas 2015 Royal Rumble

This was a match that was completely dominated by the Bellas and Paige really didn’t have much of a chance. I don’t know what’s up with the dominant performance by the Bellas and what it’s leading to, maybe the Bellas turning on each other which I hope not because no one wants to see that again. Winners: Bella Twins

Match Rating: 2.75/5

Lesnar vs. Cena vs. Rollins 2015 Royal Rumble

Going into this match I had high expectations, not only the match but there were several outcomes that could’ve happened at the end of this match. Let me say that this is the early Match of the Year candidate and this match delivered and it was definitely one that you need to go out of your way to catch it. With those crazy spots Rollins pulled off from the crazy elbow drop on Lesnar from the top rope to through the announce table, the crazy corkscrew off the top rope onto Cena and just his performance reminded me of HBK. He was definitely the MVP of the title match. John Cena did his thing by taking several bumps and getting in a good amount of offense especially when Lesnar was knocked out on the outside. Brock was an absolute beast just beating the hell out of Cena and Rollins but taking a good share of bumps throughout the match. The ending came when Brock reappeared out of nowhere after Rollins hit that corkscrew move on Cena and suplex both of them but Rollins hit Lesnar with the briefcase a couple of times and was going for the curb stomp but was caught by Lesnar and was hit with a F5. Winner and Still WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Brock Lesnar

Match Rating: 5/5: Awesome match!!!

Rumble Match

If you’re a wrestling fan and follow anything online as far as social media goes then you’ve heard several fans voice their displeasure on the results. There were some things about the Rumble match I didn’t like and a few things I liked also. First of all I think this Rumble match was pretty boring, but then again it could be that I’ve seen every single one of them and maybe they need to make some changes or maybe pull a shocker one year. The WWE need to start listening to the fans also because they were behind Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, Cesaro and a few others just listen to the crowd when their music hits. Vince McMahon talks about that “brass ring” and people reaching it, but at times it seems like it doesn’t exist. The entire Rumble match was a joke but I’m not one of those guys that hated seeing Roman Reigns win it all and I like him winning it. Rumor has it that Vince writes the promos for Reigns and they just come off much scripted which is something fans can sense. I was cool with The Rock coming down to help Reigns when Big Show and Kane attacked him after Reigns eliminated them to get him that rub. I loved the surprise entrants into the Rumble also seeing DDP and Bubba Ray Dudley, especially Bubba Ray because the crowd absolutely ate that up and I would love for him to come back full time along with Devon or to make a singles run. Winner: Roman Reigns

Match Rating: 2.5/5

Overall Rating: 5/10- I gave an extra point for the Triple Threat WWE Championship match and if people wondered about Seth Rollins being a top guys was answered because he’s the truth. Brock was an absolute beast in that match where he took some crazy bumps and Cena done his thing also. To be honest, the Championship match was the big highlight of this PPV but I’m cool with Roman Reigns winning the Rumble and understand the booking of Daniel Bryan even though it didn’t help with the crowd because someone else who’s younger will get that opportunity to have their Wrestlemania moment.
