Monday Night Raw Review for 1/4/2016 from San Antonio

Monday Night Raw from San Antonio

Welcome to the first edition of Monday Night Raw for 2016 as they hail from San Antonio, TX. I didn’t do a post for the past couple of editions of Monday Night Raw with one of them being the Slammy’s and the other one was last week, but my DirecTV went out because of the storm. With the exciting news about the possible signing of A.J. Styles, someone from my hometown and a few other stars from NJPW, let’s see how things fared on Monday Night Raw.

Good
Opening Segment: Monday Night Raw started off with the music of Stephanie hitting, but was quickly interrupted by Roman Reigns. They both entered the ring and cut promos on each other, which were pretty good and later that night we had Reigns defending his title against Sheamus with Mr. McMahon as the special guest referee.

Neville vs. Kevin Owens: This was another really good match between these two with several crazy spots, including the funky looking DDT he hit on Neville. In the end, Owens hit the pop-up powerbomb for the victory. After the match, Owens went to attack Neville but Ambrose made the save and he eventually hit a flying elbow on Owens while he was on the announce table.

Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch: Wow! This was a really good match from these two and the best match Lynch have had since she’s been called up to the main roster. After the match, we finally saw the full-fledge heel turn from Charlotte, which was expected.

Ryback vs. Big Show: When I saw these two were wrestling each other, my immediate thought was I don’t want to see this match. About a minute into the match, the Wyatt Family showed up and attacked Ryback. Afterwards, they turned their attention to the Big Show and they beat him down also.

New Day/Chris Jericho Segment: New Day started the segment doing what they do and then they said they had a surprise with a countdown, but it turned into Jericho’s countdown. Jericho & new Day went at each other and Jericho announced he’s entering the Royal Rumble.

New Day vs. Dudley Boyz & Kalisto: This was a really good match-up with a lot of action and I think they could really do something with Kalisto since it’s been said that they’re looking for a masked wrestler to market. In the end, New Day pulls out another victory and now I’m wondering what’s going on with the tag titles between now and WrestleMania.

Roman Reigns vs. Sheamus: Did Mr. McMahon flip someone off before they went to commercial break when he was introduced? The match was pretty physical between the two as expected and also you knew Vince would screw over Reigns during the match and he did a few times throughout the match. After Reigns won the match, Mr. McMahon announced that Reigns will defend his championship in the Royal Rumble match at the PPV.
Bad
Titus O’Neil vs. Stardust: I actually like Titus and wouldn’t be disappointed if he got a push for a mid-card title by the summer and I believe it’s time for Stardust to go back to Cody Rhodes.

Usos vs. Alberto Del Rio & Rusev: Not because this was a bad match, but for some reason I just can’t get behind them. I don’t know if it’s the booking or because there not any face stables in the WWE for them to face. They need to get Del Rio another finisher because that’s really going to hurt someone.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Heath Slater: I don’t know what happened with Ziggler losing to Slater nor about the Social Outcast group, but at least they got some TV time.

Overall Rating: 6.5/10- This wasn’t a bad first edition of Monday Night raw of 2016. I’m very curious to see how things will play out at the Royal Rumble with Roman Reigns having to defend his championship during the Rumble match. I really loved the Neville/Kevin Owens match, Charlotte/Becky Lynch and the 6-man match between New Day and the Dudleyz with Kalisto. Anytime Chris Jericho returns, I mark out because I’ve always had and will be a Jericholic and seeing the Wyatt Family beat down Ryback & Big Show was awesome.
