We have our first 2nd round match-up of the NBA playoffs as the San Antonio Spurs host the Oklahoma City Thunder with the winner advancing to the Western Conference Finals. San Antonio are coming off a dominant performance in the first round against the injury riddled Memphis Grizzlies as they swept them. On the other hand, Oklahoma City finished the Dallas Mavericks in five games. These teams are very familiar with each other and this should be a very good series.
The San Antonio Spurs came into the playoffs as one of the favorites to dethrone the Golden State Warriors to make the NBA Finals. If it wasn’t for the Warriors record-setting season, the Spurs would’ve been talked about much more. With the addition of LaMarcus Aldridge during the offseason, along with David West, can the Spurs get past the Thunder to reach the Western Conference finals? Will Tim Duncan be a factor in this series? On the other hand, we have the Oklahoma City Thunder with arguably two of the top five players in the league in Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. They have pretty carried the Thunder in their series against Dallas or you can say the entire season. In this series, they will need more contributions from the supporting cast because Kawhi Leonard, the reigning 2-time defensive player of the year will most likely be shielding Durant the entire series. Oklahoma City will need guys like Anthony Morrow, Andre Roberson, Dion Waiters and Randy Foye. The guys in the post for the Thunder like Serge Ibaka, Steven Adams and Enes Kanter will play a huge role on how this series will turn out. The Spurs only lost one game at home during the entire season, can the Thunder pull off the upset in this series? This should be a pretty good series, but I don’t think the Thunder supporting cast can step up and I think Durant will have a couple of bad games also. I’m going with the Spurs to win the series and advance to the Western Conference Finals.
