Monday Night Raw Review from Providence

Welcome to another edition of Monday Night Raw as it took place in Providence, RI and the Battleground PPV will be taking place this Sunday. The big news in the world of wrestling is the possible anti-doping violation of Brock Lesnar. Coming into this edition of Monday Night Raw we have so much going on with WWE Draft and the WWE finally releasing the rules for the Draft. It was announced that both Shane & Stephanie are going to name their GMs for Raw and Smackdown Live, trust me I can’t wait to see what will happen with the Draft because there’s so many rumors floating around everywhere. Last week was another pretty good edition of Monday Night Raw and hopefully that continues as we head to the Battleground PPV and the WWE Draft. Let’s Get Started!!!

Good

Opening Segment: Monday Night Raw kicked off with Stephanie McMahon coming out and as she went to talk, the music of Shane hit and he came out to a huge ovation. They cut promos on each other before Stephanie revealed that because of the success of the Cruiserweight Classic on the WWE Network, they would be bringing the cruiser weight division exclusively on Monday Night Raw and then she announced that Mick Foley would be her GM. He came out to a huge reaction, and then he cut a promo about leading Raw with the same ruthlessness as GM as he did when he wrestled in the spirit of competition. Shane then grabbed the mic then congratulated Foley on his new job, and then Shane announced Daniel Bryan as his GM of Smackdown Live and Bryan came out to an ENORMOUS reaction. He cut a promo about not being sure he could come back to wrestling because he loves to wrestle too much, but after Shane called told him they could make a difference so he accepted it. Shane finished by telling Stephanie will always be his little sister and she had to marry a WWE superstar to stay relevant.

Cesaro & Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho: This was a pretty entertaining tag match between four great wrestlers and I can’t wait to see where they end up after the Draft, but I’m pretty sure Zayn & Owens will be on separate brands.

New Day, John Cena, Enzo & Big Cass vs. The Club & The Wyatt Family: After lengthy promos from Cena, Enzo, Big Cass & New Day, The Club came out to cut a promo also and then the Wyatt Family made their way to the ring. The match was exciting and all over the place with everyone getting a good bit of offense in. In the end, Styles hit the Styles Clash on Enzo to pick up the win for his team.

Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte & Dana Brooke: The match was short, which I’m cool with when Natalya attacked Becky Lynch from behind while Charlotte & Brooke beat down Sasha Banks. I’m cool with it because it furthers both storylines heading into the Battleground PPV this Sunday.

Rollins/Ambrose Promos: Great way to hype their championship match later in the evening & for the PPV.

Return Video for Randy Orton: It’s hard to believe that Orton has been out for almost a year, can’t wait to see him on the Highlight Reel.

Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins: Exceptional match between the two former Shield members that ended in controversy. They both clearly had their shoulders on the mat when the referee counted to three and as a result Shane McMahon announced they would have their rematch on Smackdown Live.

Bad

Darren Young vs. Alberto Del Rio: I don’t know how I feel about this push for Darren Young, so I’ll have to see his match with the Miz at the PPV. As far as Del Rio is concerned, what’s up with him playing the role as jobber lately? Is he leaving again or is he in the doghouse?

Baron Corbin vs. Sin Cara: This match was quick & they need to find a feud for Corbin real quick after the draft because the fans will lose interest real quick.

Zack Ryder & Dolph Ziggler vs. Rusev & Sheamus: Really wasn’t feeling this match, but I’m happy Ryder is getting a shot at the U.S title @ the PPV though.

Overall Rating: 6.5/10- This was another pretty good edition of Monday Night Raw with a lot of happenings and news coming from the show. My only gripes were the tag match between Sheamus/Rusev going against Ziggler/Ryder, concerns about Baron Corbin going forward & the push of Darren Young and Del Rio being a jobber now.

Top 5 Happenings from Monday Night Raw:

  1. Daniel Bryan & Mick Foley Being GMs
  2. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose
  3. Bringing Back the Cruiserweight Division
  4. Big 12-Man Tag Match
  5. Cesaro & Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho & Kevin Owens
