Welcome to my first Smackdown Live review with it taking place in Buffalo. After a successful Battleground PPV along with a really good Monday Night Raw, hopefully Smackdown will continue the trend of good programming. When Smackdown went on live, Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon was walking from backstage talking about how great things will be on Smackdown Live as they made their way to the ring. Let’s Get Started!!!
Opening Segment: Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon had all the performers in the ring as they announced Dean Ambrose to come to the ring. They said they needed to crown a new #1 contender to face Dean Ambrose at Summerslam for the WWE Championship. They announced a 6-pack challenge featuring John Cena, Bray Wyatt, Dolph Ziggler, Baron Corbin and A.J. Styles with the 6th person to be determined by a battle royal.
Battle Royal: This wasn’t the best battle royal, but it served its purpose and Zack Ryder had a few botches in the match. In the end, Apollo Crews eliminated Kane to become the 6th member of the 6-pack challenge match with the winner facing Dean Ambrose for the championship.
The Return of Shelton Benjamin: It has been rumored that he’s one of the former WWE stars who could be returning to the WWE. It has now been confirmed and he’ll be a part of the Smackdown brand. Can’t wait to see Benjamin to return because he was a great wrestler and athlete!!!
Becky Lynch vs. Natalya: This was a rematch of their match-up at the Battleground PPV and this was another really good, technical match between these two. This match had many nearfalls and this time Lynch picked up the win over Natalya with the disarmer. After the match, Becky Lynch was interrupted by Alexa Bliss, Naomi, Carmella and Eva Marie.
The MizTV then Randy Orton vs. Miz: The Miz and Maryse came out to do MizTV where the Miz basically interviewed himself along with Maryse, but he was interrupted by Orton. After they traded a few shots on each other, Orton challenged him to a match and Maryse accepted it. As far as the match, I thought Orton re-injured his shoulder or maybe he just sold it really good, but he won the match after a couple of RKO’s outta nowhere.
American Alpha Video Package: Great video package hyping their debut on Smackdown next week and if you’ve never saw them before then you’re missing out on a couple of future stars.
Heath Slater: He came out and interrupted the show then kicked some local jobber out of the ring. Afterwards, Shane McMahon came out to confront Slater and told him he need to send in his resume because they’re looking to sign free agents and he’s looking at the hottest free agent. The man he was talking about was Rhyno and he met Slater with a huge Gore.
John Cena vs. A.J. Styles vs. Bray Wyatt vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin: This was a really good match with all the guys doing their thing in this match. The match was action packed and in the end, Ziggler hit a superkick on A.J. Styles after Styles hit Cena with a Phenomenal Forearm. Ambrose came down after Ziggler finished celebrating with the fans to get in the face of Ziggler and then Shane & Daniel Bryan came to raise the arms of Ambrose and Ziggler.
Overall Rating: 9/10- I can’t find a thing that I didn’t like about this edition of Smackdown, maybe seeing Styles doing the job, but hopefully they have some plans for him.
