Daddy’s Hangout Monday Night Raw Review from Brooklyn

Monday Night Raw Review from Brooklyn

Welcome to another edition of Monday Night Raw with it taking place in Brooklyn, the same place as NXTTakeover and Summerslam. If I can say one thing, it’s that Brooklyn is definitely the place to be over the weekend with so much going on. After a really good Summerslam PPV, let’s how everything turned out on Monday Night Raw and hopefully throughout the week we’ll hear more about the suspensions of Alberto Del Rio, Eva Marie and Paige.

Good

Opening Segment: Monday Night Raw started out with Finn Balor coming to the ring with a sling on his shoulder with the news he hurt his shoulder at Summerslam. Balor cut a promo about being the champ and thanked a number of people in the process. Afterwards, he gave the championship to Foley then walked up the aisle and then the music of Seth Rollins hit. He made his way to the ring and was kind of taunting Balor and went to the ring to demand the championship, but the music of Sami Zayn hit. Zayn hit the ring, and then Jericho, Owens, Enzo, Cass and Roman Reigns made their way to the ring. Foley announced they’re going to have a series of matches to determine who will be the new Universal Champ. Stephanie announced that Seth Rollins will take on Sami Zayn after the break.

Sami Zayn vs. Seth Rollins: This was an incredible match between these two and as expected, Rollins picked up the win with the Pedigree as Zayn was nursing an ankle injury throughout the match.

Kevin Owens vs. Neville: Damn this was another really good match as expected and Owens advanced in the tournament to crown a new Universal Champion. It doesn’t make Neville look bad because Jericho’s involvement. I’ve said so many times that Neville should be pushed and how strong is he?

Big E vs. Karl Anderson: The segment started with New Day cutting a promo about being the tag team champions for 365 days. After they had some fun with the crowd, they were interrupted by Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson. They demanded a rematch and eventually the match was made between Big E & Anderson. As far as the match, it was pretty good and it involved Luke Gallows, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods which allowed Big E to pick up the win.

Big Cass vs. Rusev: This is another qualifying match to determine the new Universal Champion. It’s surprising they put Big Cass as one of the eight competitors and it says they see big things from him in the future. The match wasn’t that special because Rusev is dealing with various injuries and eventually he walked away from the match, allowing Big Cass to pick up the countout win.

Charlotte Promo/Bayley Debut: Charlotte came out to cut a promo about how she’s the greatest female athlete in the world and dissed Sasha Banks in the process. As she was leaving, the music of Mick Foley hit and said that Sasha Banks will get her rematch when she returns. Charlotte said that she deserves the night off because there is no one else to face her and Foley said he & Stephanie has signed the hottest free agent to Raw and the crowd went nuts. The place exploded when Bayley was introduced and started chanting her name.

Bayley vs. Dana Brooke: The match wasn’t special, but it’s a hit because Bayley is finally on the main roster.

The Dudley Boyz Retirement: Watching the videos from their debut and return brought back so many memories. Can’t believe it has been a year since they returned to the WWE and I just wish they had a better run, but I understand. The Shining Stars interrupted their moment and got beat down for it, but Anderson & Gallows attacked the Dudley Boyz. This does two thing, as it make the Dudley Boyz face before they leave and create more heat on Anderson & Gallows. If the Dudley Boyz were to come back, this could be a good feud for them.

Chris Jericho vs. Roman Reigns: This was the final match-up in the tournament to determine a new Universal champion. The match was pretty good and I just want to add, how good Jericho have been during this run. In the end, Reigns picked up the win to advance to the Fatal 4-Way match next week.

Bad

Titus O’Neil Promo: He fumbled a few of the words in the beginning and he was dissing Darren Young & Bob Backlund, which lead to Backlund hitting the ring and trying to attack O’Neil. Titus eventually got the upper hand on Backlund and Young came down to the ring to help his mentor, but Titus attacked him also. Still on the fence with this feud, but it’s growing on me.

Braun Strowman vs. Johnny Knockout: No comment.

Overall Rating: 8/10- This capped off a great weekend in Brooklyn for the WWE as Monday Night Raw was really good. My only gripes would be Braun Strowman will probably be lost in the mix with these squash matches and I haven’t gotten into the O’Neil/Young feud just yet. Below are my top 5 happening from Monday Night Raw!!

Top 5 Happenings from Monday Night Raw:

  1. Finn Balor Relinquishing the Title
  2. Sami Zayn vs. Seth Rollins
  3. Debut of Bayley
  4. Kevin Owens vs. Neville
  5. The Dudley Boyz Retirement

What did you think about this edition of Monday Night Raw? What are your thoughts about Finn Balor having to give up the title? Should they ban the move that injured Balor? What do you think about the Dudley Boyz not being in WWE anymore? Head to the comments section and give me some feedback. Oh yeah, I’m hoping WWE go with Owens to become the new champ.
