Daddy’s Hangout Monday Night Raw Review from Houston

Monday Night Raw Houston

Welcome to another edition of Monday Night Raw with it taking place in Houston. After coming off a very good edition of Monday Night Raw last week, hopefully things will continue that trend with the Clash of Champions in less than four weeks. With the big news coming into Raw being that Fatal 4-Way match for the Universal championship and Alberto Del Rio likely being finished with the WWE. Let’s see how things turned out!!

Good

Opening Segment: We kicked off Monday Night Raw with all four stars fighting in the main event for the Universal title sitting in the ring with the title in the middle of them. Corey Graves was the mediator of the event where all the wrestlers talked about winning the championship. After going back & forth, they ended fighting with Roman Reigns standing tall in the ring with the championship.

Chris Jericho vs. Neville: This was a pretty good match between these two as expected. I’m a huge fan of Neville and hopefully with the cruiserweights coming to Raw, he’ll get a push and Jericho seems like he’s better than ever.

Cesaro vs. Sheamus: This was another good, physical match-up between these two. In the end, Sheamus picked up the win after Cesaro took a nasty bump into the ring post and Sheamus made him submit to the Texas Cloverleaf.

Remembering Mr. Fuji: Nice video package for the late, great Mr. Fuji whom I never got to see wrestle, but know he was a great manager.

Video Package for All Competitors in the Championship Match: These video packages were well done and it created a big match feel to the match.

Paul Heyman/Stephanie McMahon: These two have a very long history with each other, great chemistry and it was on full display. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of this storyline.

Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns vs. Big Cass: This was a crazy match between all four men, but things really picked up after Owens eliminated Big Cass. After Reigns speared Rollins on the outside, Triple H came out of nowhere to attack & Pedigree Reigns, allowing Rollins to pick up the win. Triple H went to pick up Owens & throw him in the ring and then he turned to pedigree Rollins allowing Kevin Owens to win and become the new Universal Champion. What a great ending to Monday Night Raw, which was one of the best in a very long, long time.

Bad

Nia Jax vs. Local Jobber: Squash match!

Sami Zayn vs. Jinder Mahal: This was basically a squash match by Zayn, but I wish they would find something for him to do because he’s too good in the ring.

Braun Strowman vs. Merico: They’re going to need to hurry up & get him some competition.

Titus O’Neil vs. Darren Young: I’m still not vested in this feud and I don’t think this is helping either of them out.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10- This was another great edition of Monday Night Raw where we saw the return of Triple H in a major way. Who saw that coming? Who saw him finally turning on Seth Rollins? My only gripes with this edition of Monday Night Raw was the squash matches, Sami Zayn not having a feud and the Titus O’Neil/Darren Young feud. Below are my top 5 happenings from Raw!!

  • Return of Triple H
  • Rollins vs. Owens vs. Reigns vs. Cass
  • Chris Jericho vs. Neville
  • Build for the Main Event
  • Remembering Mr. Fuji
