Daddy’s Hangout Backlash PPV Review

Backlash PPV

Welcome to the first Smackdown Live PPV with it taking place in Roanoke, VA. This is the night where they’re going to crown the first-ever Smackdown Women’s and Tag Team Champions. We started the PPV with Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan coming to the ring to get the crowd pumped up. Shane thanked the crowd, fans watching & everyone involved in making the PPV possible. They also talked about history being made tonight and it’s going to start with the 6-pack challenge.

6 Pack Challenge Backlash PPV

We start out with all the ladies in the ring and they started to brawl. Afterwards, Becky Lynch and Naomi were the only two left. They fought until Carmella came back into the ring and they all eventually got in some offense. During the match, Naomi showed why she’s the most athletic female or maybe superstar on the roster by hitting a crazy springboard dive off the top rope onto the ladies on the outside. Naomi eventually pinned Bliss for the first elimination. The ladies brawled some more, but Naomi went for a springboard crossbody, but was met with a fierce forearm from Nikki. As she was going for the pin, Natalya threw her shoulder first into the corner post and made Naomi tap out to the Sharpshooter. The ladies brawl some more and Natalya was eliminated by Nikki Bella when she hit an argentine back breaker on Natalya. Right after the pinfall, Carmella rolled Nikki up to eliminate her. Afterwards she taunted Nikki and tried to push her out of the ring, but she was met with a slap to the face. After throwing a fit, Carmella turned her frustrations on Becky Lynch by slapping her continuously. After Carmella started to pound Becky on the ground, Lynch got her second wind and hit a series of suplexes. In the end, Lynch got Carmella in the DisArmer for the win. Winner and First-Ever Smackdown Women’s Champ: Becky Lynch

Match Rating: 4/5- Wow! What a great opening match by the ladies. Even though Raw has the bigger names in Charlotte, Sasha & Bayley, these ladies proved Smackdown maybe have the best overall Women’s division. Great match!

Tag Team Tourney Backlash PPV

This match was to determine who would face Heath Slater & Rhyno later tonight to crown the first-ever Smackdown tag team champions. The match featured the Hype Bros. taking on the Usos, who turned heel on the last Smackdown on the American Alpha, hurting Chad Gable in the process. I’ll be honest, I didn’t have high expectations of this match, but they proved me wrong. This match was pretty good with the Usos working on the leg of Ryder, Mojo being the muscle of his team and man he’s strong as hell. In the end, the Usos went after the leg of Ryder like they did with Gable and eventually forced him to submit. Winner: Usos

Match Rating: 3/5- Pretty good match, plus love the new look to go with the new attitude from the Usos.

Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler Backlash PPV

This was a battle for the Intercontinental championship as the Miz defended the title against Dolph Ziggler. The match started out pretty slow, but boy did it pickup steam and had the crowd chanting this is awesome. The Miz seemed to start mocking Daniel Bryan about halfway through the match by dipping into his moves like the running dropkick in the corner and then he started doing the Yes! chants. The match featured so many counters, nearfalls and just good wrestling. In the end, Maryse sprayed something in the eyes of Ziggler’s while the referee wasn’t looking, which allowed the Miz to hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win. Winner and Still Intercontinental Champion: Miz

Match Rating: 4/5

Orton vs. Wyatt Backlash PPV

Rumors were running rampant throughout the day saying that Orton wasn’t cleared to wrestle, so they ran the injury angle in the back earlier. Bray Wyatt came to the ring, but was told Orton wasn’t cleared to compete, so he demanded the referee to count to 10, say Orton forfeited the match and raise his hand. As Wyatt was about to leave, the announcer said he’ll be competing in a No Holds Barred match against Kane. They beat the hell out each other throughout the match, even using a chair on one another. Bray put Kane through the announce table with his running backdrop. In the end, Orton interfered in the match by hitting an RKO and Kane hit a chokeslam for the win. Winner: Kane

Match Rating: 3/5

Tag Team Tourney Backlash PPV

This is the Finals of the Smackdown tag team tournament as the Usos face the team of Heath Slater & Rhyno. If you’ve been keeping up with the Heath Slater saga, then you know he’ll earn a contract if him & Rhyno capture the championships. The beginning of the match, the crowd was really behind the team of Slater & Rhyno. The Usos isolated Slater for most of the match before he made the hot tag to Rhyno and he cleaned house. Rhyno was about to finish the Usos by going for the GORE, but Jimmy sent him face first into the second turnbuckle. Despite being tired, Slater tagged himself in and clears the ring and as he was going for a pin, he was pulled out of the ring and met with a super kick. Rhyno then GORES Jimmy, allowing Slater to crawl in the ring and score the pinfall. Winners and First Ever Smackdown Tag Team Champs: Heath Slater & Rhyno

Match Rating: 3/5- I can’t believe they won the belts, seriously I was in awe, but i was glad to see it happen.

Dean Ambrose vs. A.J. Styles Backlash PPV
This is the final match of the night and it was for the WWE World Championship as Dean Ambrose defended his title against A.J. Styles. For the past couple of weeks, they have bested one another and I knew coming into this match that it could be a good one, I mean Styles doesn’t have bad matches. This match was really good and they were given an ample amount of time to do there thing too. The match featured so many close calls and it was pretty physical also. Towards the end, the match was taken up a notch when they fought in the crowd as the crowd chanted “this is awesome”. Styles was getting frustrated as Ambrose escaped his Calf Crusher submission and kicked out of his 450 splash. Ambrose went for the Dirty Deeds, but Styles backed Ambrose into the referee and hit him with a low blow. Styles hit the Styles Clash to pickup the win to become the new WWE World Champion. Winner and New WWE World Champ: A.J. Styles

Match Rating: 4/5- I couldn’t be more happier because Styles is from my hometown of Gainesville, Georgia and he deserves it. Great match and this could be good for Ambrose because he can really be one a Lunatic Fringe.
Overall Rating: 7.5/10- I didn’t have really high expectations for the PPV, but I was proven wrong. My only complaints were seeing Bray lose again and that was really it. Solid PPV!!
