2Pac Released His Debut Album 25 Years Ago Today

2Pac 2Pacalypse Now

Man time sure does fly by really fast, doesn’t it? We’ve celebrated the 20 year anniversary of Pac’s passing a couple of months ago. It’s hard to believe he dropped 2Pacalypse Now 25 years ago. To give you a broader view, he was recording this revolutionary album when he was 19-years-old. To put that in proper contents, listen to the rappers nowadays that’s in their late teens and early-20s, see the difference? I’m sure if you follow everything on my site, on Instagram, Twitter or know me personally, 2Pac is my all-time favorite. I mean you know it because I say it in all of my stuff. I’ll share a little something I haven’t told anyone, my best friend was the one that introduced me to 2Pac’s music as I was a huge Spice 1 and Geto Boys fan.

My Introduction to 2Pac

My homeboy, may he rest in peace was the one that got me into Pac. You see he started listening to him because he was a Minnesota Vikings fan and Pac had a Vikings bomber on in his Brenda’s Got a Baby video. Since we talked about music, video games, and sports and of course, girls all the time, he told me to check out the 2Pac video. He knew that was right up y alley because I was sort of a revolutionary in my own head of course as a teenager. If you don’t believe me, some of my teachers will vouch for me on that subject because they would tell me I’m too smart for my age. So I actually got my dad to buy me to 2Pacalypse Now cassette tape, yeah I said a cassette tape and I was blown away. Fast forward, even Nas has said that’s his favorite 2Pac album and one of his all-time favorites because the stuff he was saying at his age. Of course, after hearing the album I finally caught the Brenda’s Got a Baby video, you know we had to record things from a VCR back in the day.

Brenda’s Got A Baby

I remember the first time seeing this video and hearing the song. The first thing I said was, this 2Pac dude is only 20-years-old? What’s crazy is that 25 years later, this song is still telling a story of what’s really going on in communities now. Check out the video above and if this is your first time watching it, let me know your thoughts at the end.

Trapped

This was another song that had me like, man this dude right here is going to be a problem in the future. This was the beginning of his verbal assaults on the cops, but let’s be honest, he was telling the truth. When you listen to this track and watch the video, remember he drop this 25 years ago. This is another powerful track along with the video, which could be viewed above also.

Overall Thoughts:

I’ve said many times that this album is so underrated as with most debut albums back then. In addition to the tracks mentioned above, there are a few other tracks that stood out to me. Young Black Male, Soulja’s Story, Words of Wisdom, If My Homie Calls, Rebel of the Underground and Part Time Mutha are my other favorite songs off the album. If you don’t have this album, it needs to be in your collection. Also, it was just announced that this album will be released on vinyl for the first time and re-released on cassette for your collection.
