Daddy’s Hangout 2017 Extreme Rules PPV Review

2017 Extreme Rules PPV Review

We have the first PPV of the month from the WWE, which is the Extreme Rules PPV. Of course, this is the Raw PPV and this is where the WWE gets extreme for the night. In the main event, we saw a Fatal 5-Way Extreme match to determine the new #1 contender for the Universal title. Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt met in this match. Dean Ambrose defended the Intercontinental title against The Miz. The stipulation was that Ambrose could lose the championship if he were to get himself disqualified. The Hardy Boyz defended their Raw tag titles against Cesaro & Sheamus in a Steel Cage match. Alexa Bliss defended her Raw Women’s title against former champion, Bayley in a Kendo Stick on a Pole match. Let’s see how things play out and if any of my Extreme Rules predictions came true.

2017 Extreme Rules PPV Review

We started the PPV with the Intercontinental championship match as the Miz try to become a 7-time champion. These two have fought each other so many times over the past couple of years, but they always deliver. This match was no different as it delivered with the focus on Ambrose trying not to get disqualified. The match featured some good wrestling and storytelling. At one point, Miz got Maryse to slap him with hopes of getting Ambrose disqualified. When that didn’t work, Maryse was ejected by the official and Miz tossed Ambrose into the referee. It seemed like the referee was about to disqualify Ambrose, Miz came from behind to hit the Skull Crushing Finale to get the win. Winner and New Intercontinental Champ: Miz

Match Rating: 3.75/5- Terrific way to open the PPV and I agree with the move of having the Miz winning back the championship as he elevates the title.

This was the mixed tag team match as Noam Dar & Alicia Foxx took on Rich Swann & Sasha Banks. As we all know, Alicia Foxx & Noam Dar have been getting the best of Sasha Banks, but now she has Rich Swann on her side. Rich Swann & Noam Dar had a couple of moments where they delivered some good wrestling. The major spot of the match was Sasha Banks hitting the double knees from the top rope to the floor onto Noam Dar. Rich Swann hit the Phoenix Splash to pick up the win for his team. Winners: Sasha Banks & Rich Swann

Match Rating: 2.5/5- I’m hoping Sasha Banks move on from this storyline

This was the Kendo Stick on a Pole match as Alexa Bliss defended her title against Bayley. The major question coming into this match was, can Bayley get extreme? Alexa Bliss have got the best of Bayley on a couple occasions with the kendo stick. After the awful This Is Your Life Segment this past Monday I just wanted a good match from these two. As far as the match, it seems like these two just isn’t clicking with each other. In the match, Bayley never got to use the kendo stick as Bliss had her way with it before hitting a DDT to finish her off. Winner and Still Raw Women’s Champ: Alexa Bliss

Match Rating: 2.5/5

The Hardy Boyz put their Raw Tag Team Championships on the line against Cesaro & Sheamus in a Steel Cage match. Last month at the Payback PPV, the Hardy Boyz defeated Cesaro & Sheamus, but was attacked as they celebrated their win. The Hardy Boyz beat Cesaro & Sheamus in singles match on Raw over a two-week period, which lead to this match. As expected, this was a hard hitting and very physical match-up between the two teams. The sickest spot came when Jeff Hardy hit the Whispers in the Wind from the top of the cage onto Cesaro & Sheamus. The move got the crowd going crazy, but ultimately cost the Hardyz the titles as Cesaro & Sheamus hit the floor slightly before the Hardy Boyz. Winners and New Raw Tag Champs: Cesaro & Sheamus

Match Rating: 4.25/5- Excellent tag match that provided some crazy spots in the process.

Neville put up his Cruiserweight championship against his rival, Austin Aries. This rivalry dates back just before WrestleMania and this has easily been the best feud over that period. Austin Aries made Neville tap out to the Last Chancery a couple weeks ago on Raw. As far as this match goes, it wasn’t no ordinary cruiserweight match because of the physicality these two displayed. They literally beat the hell out of each other and this match had some sick spots also. Aries had Neville tapping out to the Last Chancery, but they were on the outside when it happened. In the end, Neville retained the championship by hitting the Red Arrow then locking in the Rings of Saturn. Winner and Still Cruiserweight Champion: Neville

Match Rating: 4/5- This was another awesome from these two and I’m not sure what the future holds for Aries, but he helped elevate the cruiserweight division.

2017 Extreme Rules PPV Review

We finally have the main event of the evening with the winner going on to face Brock Lesnar at the next PPV. In my initial prediction, I broke down who I thought would win and my choice was Bray Wyatt. Let’s just say this match exceeded expectations as all men had great moments with offense. Throughout most of the match, Bray Wyatt and Samoa Joe helped each other out beating on anyone in their way. After Wyatt turned on Joe they battled with each other and everyone else. Towards the end, it seemed like Balor was about to win as he was beating on everybody. Roman Reigns speared Joe & Balor through the barricade while Rollins hit a splash from the top rope onto Bray Wyatt while he was on the announce table. Samoa Joe eventually put Balor to sleep to become the new #1 contender for the Universal title. Winner and New #1 Contender for Universal Title: Samoa Joe

Match Rating: 4.5/5- AWESOME main event!!!! I’m surprised that Samoa Joe picked up the victory, but I’m happy with the decision. Now that Joe will face Lesnar at the Great Ball of Fire PPV next month, let the hype begin. I’m hoping this match won’t be lopsided as this could make Samoa Joe a major player for the future.
