Welcome to Week 3 of the college football season as we have a top-15 match-up highlighting this weekend. After going 3-1 last weekend, my record is 7-1 and hopefully I can keep this up all season. Oklahoma surprised many people, including myself by going to Ohio State and dominating them. This weekend, the huge match-up will see 3rd ranked Clemson head to Louisville and face the 14th ranked Cardinal. Last year, this game was an instant classic as Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson put on a great show. Can that dominant Clemson defense stop the reigning Heisman Trophy winner? The only other top-25 matchup this weekend will have 23rd ranked Tennessee visiting the 24th ranked Florida Gators. This game is huge as both teams representing the SEC East in the championship game. This week I’ll be predicting a total of 5 games with the hopes of staying above 70%.
Last year, this game lived up to all the hype and more as Lamar Jackson ad Deshaun Watson did their thing. This year the 14th ranked Louisville Cardinal will host the 3rd ranked Clemson Tigers. The offense of the Tigers doesn’t look the same without Mike Williams and Deshaun Watson, but the defense is awesome. Last week, Clemson held the Auburn offense in check and only allowed 6 points. Can Clemson keep Lamar Jackson in check? Lamar Jackson is playing like a man on a mission as he has put up crazy numbers in the first two weeks. Can this Louisville team pull off the huge win and thrust themselves into the national championship picture? I’m going with the upset and have Louisville holding things down at home.
Louisville Win 23-21
This is a battle between two teams that’s hoping to make the SEC Championship game. 23rd ranked Tennessee will visit the 24th ranked Florida Gators in a key SEC East matchup. Tennessee has started the season with a 2-0 record as they survived their only test against Georgia Tech opening weekend. The Volunteer offense will get to face a tough defense without their great QB Josh Dobbs, who’s off to the NFL. Can Tennessee pull off the upset in Gainesville? Florida opened the season with a lost against Michigan as their offense is still struggling. Once again, the defense should be one of the better ones in the nation despite losing several to the NFL. This should be a tough one to call, but I think Florida will pick up their first win of the season.
Florida Win 23-13
We stay in the SEC, but this time we’re in the West as Mississippi State hosts 12th ranked LSU. Mississippi State is looking to make a statement with a huge upset over the Tigers. The Bulldogs once again have a good defense and it will get tested by the physical Tiger defense. Can the Mississippi State offense withstand the tough and physical Tiger defense? This is the first of 3 consecutive games against ranked SEC opponents. LSU has started the season once again with their defense dominating their opponents. Derrius Guice will be key for the Tigers to help the offense and keep the defense off the field. This will be an old-fashioned, physical game and I think LSU will prevail.
LSU Win 31-17
This will be their first meeting since the classic 2006 National Championship, which some has called the greatest game ever. The 4th ranked USC Trojans will host the Texas Longhorns in a Saturday night matchup. Texas started the Tom Herman Era by losing their home opener against Maryland. The Longhorns looked like the same team as previous years before, but can they turn it around? USC started the season as one of the favorites to make the playoffs this year. They began the season looking out of sync, but last week against Stanford they looked great. Sam Darnold looked like the projected top pick against Stanford as he carved up their defense. I’m looking for USC to have their way with Texas and beat them handily.
USC Win 38-24
