Welcome to Week 6 of this crazy NFL season. Week 5 will be remembered for season-ending injuries that occurs to superstars. Odell Beckham Jr went down to a broken ankle and J.J. Watt broke a bone in his knee to finish him. The Houston Texans also lost Whitney Mercilus to a torn pectoral muscle so that defense will have to come up with a miracle. If the Beckham injury wasn’t enough, Brandon Marshall was lost for the season also. Unfortunately, last week my slide has continued with my 4-5 record for consecutive weeks. My overall record dips down to 22-20 and in the process my winning percentage goes from 54.5% to 52.4%. This week the top game of the week happens to take place on Thursday as the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Carolina Panthers. I’ll be predicting a total of eight games this week.
We kick things off with a pair of 4-1 teams meeting on Thursday night. The Philadelphia Eagles will visit the Carolina Panthers in a battle of division leaders. Philadelphia has been getting things done by a tough front 7 on defense, nice running game and Carson Wentz hitting the homerun ball. The Eagles seem to have one of the better teams in the league, but the secondary will be tested with the big WRs of the Panthers. Another issue will be the availability of Lane Johnson. The past two weeks, Cam Newton has looked like 2015 Cam, but with better accuracy. The defense is starting to look like that same defense from 2015 also. Cam Newton should have a good game against that secondary and lead the Panthers to the win.
Carolina Win 31-21
We head to the NFC North division for this match-up as the Green Bay Packers visit Minnesota to meet the Vikings. Aaron Rodgers is looking like an MVP-candidate so far as he had his moment last week against the Dallas Cowboys. We already know that the Packers offense will go as far as Rodgers takes them, but Aaron Jones could be a pleasant surprise at RB. Davante Adams is emerging as their go-to guy and the defense is still a work in progress. Minnesota is coming off a close win in Chicago on Monday night, but it cost them Sam Bradford. Bradford reaggravated his knee injury and this could keep him out for a while. With the uncertainty of Bradford and with Rodgers being on fire I’m going with the Packers.
Green Bay Win 23-17
This should be a battle of top-notched offenses as the Detroit Lions visit the New Orleans Saints. Detroit is coming off a tough loss at home to the Carolina Panthers and Matthew Stafford was injured in the process. Two of the Lions three wins came against Arizona and the New York Giants. With that being said, are they as good as advertised or benefited from a weak schedule early on. The big issue will be the health of Stafford and if he could go, plus how effective will he be if he does play. New Orleans is coming off their bye week on a two-game winning streak and actually blanking the Dolphins their last game. Can Drew Brees continue to deliver and keep pace of the Panthers and Falcons? I’m picking the Saints to beat Detroit as the Lions head into their bye week.
New Orleans Win 35-24
How many of you circled this game on your calendar thinking this would be for first place? The New England Patriots will head to New York to meet the Jets for first place. The Patriots are coming off an impressive win in Tampa. New England’s defense has been the problem all year, but did they turn a corner in Tampa? Tom Brady is once again playing at a high, MVP like level at 40 years-old. Can the defense continue to play well? The New York Football Jets have won three games in a row when people thought they were going to tank this year. The offense is doing just enough to win games and the defense is very young and hungry. This will be a tough game and I think New England will win this one.
New England Win 27-17
This is a battle of two of the younger teams in the league as the Rams visit Jacksonville to face the Jaguars. The Los Angeles Rams have had one of the best offenses in the league, but they ran into the Seahawks last week. Can Todd Gurley get back on track against this tough Jaguars defense? Will Jared Goff get back on track against this stingy Jaguars secondary? Can the Rams defense force turnovers against Blake Bortles? Jacksonville put on a clinic last week in Pittsburgh as they forced Big Ben into throwing 5 INTs. It seems like this Jaguars defense has finally put things together and become a dominant group. Will this continue this weekend? I’m going with Jacksonville to prevail over the Los Angeles Rams.
Jacksonville Win 23-17
We head to Kansas City as the Chiefs will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Kansas City Chiefs remain the only undefeated team in the NFL as their offense has been unstoppable. Alex Smith is playing at an MVP-like level and the same could be said for rookie Kareem Hunt. The defense was shredded like week as Deshaun Watson accounted for 5 TDs, but that still wasn’t enough. Can the Chiefs continue their offensive dominance against the Steelers? Pittsburgh is coming off being dismantled by the young Jaguars defense as they forced Big Ben to throw 5 INTs. Can Big Ben turn things around for Pittsburgh and get their season back on track? I’ve slept on the Chiefs, but not this week as I have them winning again.
Kansas City Win 30-20
This is the Sunday Night game as the New York Giants visit Denver to face the Broncos. As we all know, the New York Giants team is as bad as it gets and things got worse with the season-ending injury to Odell Beckham Jr. The offensive line isn’t protecting Eli Manning like they should and the defense hasn’t looked like the dominant one from a year ago. Could the Giants go the Mile High and pull off the impossible upset? Denver is coming off their bye week and they’re hoping to keep pace with the undefeated Chiefs in the process. After getting beat on the road in Buffalo, the Denver defense showed they’re as good as advertised by shutting down Oakland. I’m thinking they’ll do the same against the winless Giants on Sunday Night.
Denver Win 24-13
We head to Nashville for this AFC South match-up as the Titans host the Indianapolis Colts. The health of Andrew Luck is still an issue for the Colts, but Indianapolis is still a game behind the division leading Jaguars. If you’re a Colts fan, that’s great news hopes that Andrew Luck can return to lead the team. If you’re not a Colts fan, you’ll probably bring up their two wins came against the winless 49ers and Cleveland Browns. The Tennessee Titans also face a dilemma at the QB position as Marcus Mariota is dealing with his share of injuries. The Titans is also a game behind the Jaguars and they’re on a two-game losing streak. I’m thinking Tennessee will get back on track and win this game Monday night.
Tennessee Win 35-20
