The opening night of the NBA season was filled with so many emotions. First of all, prayers go to Gordon Hayward as he dislocated his ankle and fractured his tibia in the first quarter of his Celtic debut. Lebron James lead the Cavs to the victory as he almost notched a triple-double against Boston. Kyrie Irving had a great game also as he finished with a double-double against his former team. In the nightcap, Houston pulled off the upset of the NBA champs by beating the Warriors by one point. In the Rockets win, Chris Paul had to sit out the latter part of the final quarter with a leg injury. For this one, I’ll be predicting three games tonight with the hopes of improving my 1-1 record. Let’s get started!!
We kick things off with the Philadelphia 76ers visiting D.C. to take on the Washington Wizards. The Philadelphia 76ers are hoping to make it through an entire season without any serious injuries. Joel Embiid is starting the season in frustration as he’ll have a minute’s restriction attached to him. We also get to see the debuts of the last two top picks of the NBA Draft in Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz. Can the 76ers invaded Washington and beat the Wizards? The Washington Wizards has been the one team in the Eastern Conference that many isn’t talking about, but they could challenge the Cavs too. Washington was able to keep their nucleus together as they resigned Otto Porter to a huge contract. This should be a good one and I think Washington will walk out with the win. This game will be played on ESPN.
Wizards Win 107-102
After the gruesome injury to Gordon Hayward, Boston flies home for their home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks. When Boston lost Heyward, we all thought that Boston would be blown away, but it didn’t happen. Jason Tatum and Jayden Brown stepped up and I think Boston will be alright moving forward. Can Boston avoid starting the season with a 0-2 record? Will Kyrie Irving lead the Celtics to their first win? On the other hand, Milwaukee is a team that many think can contend for the Eastern Conference crown. Giannis Antetokounmpo is considered a serious MVP candidate this year and I think if healthy, Milwaukee could challenge Boston and Washington for the 2nd seed. In this game, Boston should find a way to upend the Bucks for the win.
Celtics Win 103-101
This is a battle between the young and upcoming team facing the franchise that has been the class of the league for twenty years. The Minnesota Timberwolves will visit San Antonio to face the Spurs in the season opener for both. As we all know, Minnesota upgraded their roster by adding Jimmy Butler and Jeff Teague while they signed Andrew Wiggins to a max-extension. Can the Wolves start their season with a win on the road? The San Antonio Spurs will always be a favorite in the West as long as Coach Popvich is on the bench with a healthy Kawhi Leonard. Unfortunately, Leonard will not play in the game as he’s still dealing with a quad injury. Can the Spurs win without Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker? I’m going with the young Wolves to prevail against San Antonio.
Wolves Win 97-89
I’ve thought about it and I’ll do games from Monday through Friday unless there’s a major game on the weekend for now. Are you excited about the NBA season? What’s your favorite team? Who’s your favorite player? What do you think about my picks? Leave a comment below.
