Welcome to Week 11 of the college football season as we get closer to the end of the season. With the new college football rankings out, the top 5 remain the same, but that could change this weekend. After what happened last weekend, anything can happen, and those rankings don’t mean anything. Ohio State went to Iowa and had their championship aspirations dashed when the Hawkeyes blew them out. After a long weather delay in Lansing, Penn State fail to the Spartans on a last-second field goal. Iowa State had their dream season where they had visions of the Big-12 championship when West Virginia upended them. Miami had their biggest win this year as they dominated Virginia Tech. My record was 5-5 last week, which lowered my record to 31-16. My overall winning percentage dropped to 66%. I’ll be predicting 8 games this weekend so let’s get started.
We start things off with a renewed rivalry as the 3rd ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish face 7th ranked Miami. This is their first meeting since 1989 as this rivalry even spawned a 30-for-30 series as this has always been an intense game. Notre Dame has been dominating their opponents all year with their only loss coming against top-ranked Georgia. Ever since, Joshua Adams have emerged as one of the contenders for the Heisman Trophy. Can he improve his chances against the tough Hurricanes defense? Miami comes into this game undefeated, but they finally won a game against a tough opponent last week. The Miami defense is top-notched, but the offense is still an issue. I’m going with the Hurricanes to win this and possibly rocket up to 5th.
Miami Win 26-24
We head to the SEC as this is the oldest rivalry in the deep south dating back to 1892. The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs hit the road to face the 10th ranked Auburn Tigers. Georgia has dominated their opponents all season except for South Carolina last week. It still amazes me that the Bulldogs can throw out four different RBs and don’t see any drop-off. Will Jake Fromm being able to make enough plays against the tough Auburn defense? Despite their two losses, Auburn still control their own destiny in the SEC if they can win out. The Tigers have a stout defense to go along with an explosive offense to compliment it. It seems like the road team plays better and I think that trend continues with a Georgia win.
Georgia Win 27-24
This game is for all the marbles as the winner will be atop of the Big-12 Conference. The 6th ranked TCU Horned Frogs travel to Oklahoma to face the 5th ranked Sooners. TCU is the one team in the conference that plays defense as they have given up 27 points in their last four games. If the Horned Frogs are going to walk away from this with the win, Kenny Hill will need to play the game of his life. Can the Horned Frogs upend the Sooners on the road? Baker Mayfield has emerged as the Heisman favorite, especially after the game he had against Oklahoma State. This will be his toughest test of the season and this could be a game that the Sooners defense get after Kenny Hill. I’m going with the Sooners walking away with the win.
Oklahoma Win 41-31
We head back down to the SEC as the 2nd ranked Alabama Crimson Tide visits the 16th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. Alabama is coming off a tough, physical win against LSU last week as they hope to continue their undefeated season. The Crimson Tide is hoping to march towards another SEC Championship game berth with one more SEC game left. Can the Tide continue to roll as they hit the road in a tough, hostile environment? After getting blown out by Georgia and Auburn back-to-back, Mississippi State is riding a four-game winning streak. They have scored at least 34 points in those games, but none of them were Alabama. I’m rolling with the Tide in this one, but it should be a tough game.
Alabama Win 34-21
It’s time to travel up north to the Big-10 Conference as 12th ranked Michigan State Spartans face 13th ranked Ohio State. After an extended weather delay, Michigan State knocked off then-6th ranked Penn State in a thriller. Michigan State has been the definition of an up-and-down team, but could they have turned the corner after last week? Michigan State can take the lead in the East division of the Big-12, but will they beat the Buckeyes on the road? Ohio State is coming off a disastrous game last week on the road against Iowa, but they salvage what’s left of their season. With a win, the Buckeyes put themselves in the position to play in the conference title game. I’m rolling with the Buckeyes to rebound and take the lead in the East.
Ohio State Win 34-24
We stay in the Big-10 Conference for another game between ranked opponents. The 20th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes will hit the road to face the undefeated 8th ranked Wisconsin Badgers. Like I mentioned above, Iowa is coming off one of the most impressive wins of the season when they manhandled Ohio State. Iowa is a must different team on the road than they are when they play at home. Can they pull off another upset in consecutive weeks? Wisconsin is still looking for respect and with a win they would be 10-0 and clinch the West division of the Big-10. The Badgers need some style points at this point because they go undefeated and miss the playoffs. I’m going with the Badgers to continue their undefeated season with a win.
Wisconsin Win 30-21
The final game between ranked teams takes place in the Big-12 Conference. The 15th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys hit the road to face the 21st ranked Iowa State Cyclones. Oklahoma State is coming off a loss to rival, Oklahoma in a battle of offensive outbursts. Mason Rudolph and the Cowboys are still looking to get into a major bowl and they could head in that direction with a win over Iowa State. Can they rebound from their loss last week? Iowa State has enjoyed a great season, but they fell on the road against West Virginia to all but end their chances at the Big-12 title. Can they continue their unexpected season? I’m riding with the Cowboys to rebound to win this one.
Oklahoma State Win 41-30
The final game on my slate will be a Friday night game in the Pac-12 Conference. The 9th ranked Washington Huskies travel to Stanford to face the Cardinal in a key Pac-12 North battle. Washington still have dreams of crashing into the playoffs like they did last year. If the Huskies are going to make that run, they must beat a tough and scrappy Stanford team. Can Washington continue their great season with a win over Stanford? Stanford is coming off a tough loss against Washington State last week. Bryce Love is still in the running for the Heisman Trophy and could improve his chances by having a big game against Washington. I’m going with Stanford to upset Washington in this one.
Stanford Win 24-23
