On October 6th, Kurupt aka Young Gotti will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of his debut, solo double album. After all the drama with Death Row, Kurupt started his own label and released his Kuruption album. It features guest appearances from numerous rappers from both the East Coast and West Coast, including Daz Dillinger, Noreaga, Tray Deee, Roscoe, and Dr. Dre. Disc one is labeled as “West Coast” and disc two is labeled as “East Coast”. Before that, Kurupt was featured on some of the biggest hip hop albums ever. The Chronic, Doggystyle and Murder Was the Case Soundtrack are just a few. With Daz Dillinger, they formed the Dogg Pound and released the classic Dogg Food album where he dropped the New York, New York track.
After those projects, Kurupt was looked at as one of the illest lyricist in the rap game. After the Dogg Pound album, he was featured on All Eyez On Me. My Throwback Thursday track is my favorite track from his Kuruption album, We Can Freak It. We Can Freak It is a smooth, laid back track and it’s just an amazing joint.
