We have the final playoff series set after the Nuggets finally eliminated the Spurs in seven. In an intense series with the Thunder, Portland eliminated Oklahoma City in five games. With the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets underway, it’s time for the other Western Conference semifinal matchup to start. In their series with Denver, the talk of the NBA was Damian Lillard. In the series clinching game, Lillard went for 50 points and hit the game winning 3-pointer. Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum are still trying to get their proper respect and it’ll come if they advance. On the other hand, the Denver Nuggets were in a tough, grueling series with the Spurs. Gary Harris and Jamal Murray will have their hands full trying to keep up with Lillard and McCollum. Who will get the chance to advance to the Western Conference Finals?
How Can Denver Win?
The Denver Nuggets have been one of the better teams in the West throughout the season. Nikola Jokic have been an MVP candidate throughout the season and can notch a triple-double any given time. With the uncertainty of Enes Kanter, who’s nursing an injured shoulder, who will guard him? If Gary Harris and Jamal Murray can match the offense of the backcourt of the Trailblazers. In the playoffs, homecourt advantage is so key and it will be something the Nuggets will use to their advantage. Paul Millsap is the veteran who’s been in plenty of wars throughout the years in the playoffs. Millsap will have to come up big on key plays and the team will rely on his poise. Will the Nuggets rebound from the tough series and beat the red hot Blazers to advance?
How Portland Can Win?
After being swept out of the first round of the playoffs last year, Portland have been on a mission. Will the Trailblazers have the same energy against the Nuggets like they did with the Thunder? Damian Lillard was on a mission because Russell Westbrook love to trash talk and try to show him up. Lillard took that energy and it fueled him to lead Portland to their win over Oklahoma City by any means necessary. While Lillard and McCollum get all the praise, Portland have a roster full of quality players. Al-Farouq Aminu, Zach Collins and Maurice Harkless can play on both sides of the ball and they contribute too. Can Portland play another great series and possibly advance to the Western Conference Finals?
Who Will Win?
Honestly, this is probably the least talked about series of the four. If you’re a fan of backcourt play, this will be the series for you. The big question for Portland has to be the health and availability of Enes Kanter? For Denver, can Murray and Harris match the offensive output of Lillard and McCollum? Can anyone on the Trailblazers stop or contain Nikola Jokic? This is another difficult series to choose from, but I’ll go with the Nuggets to win this series and advance.
