Anthony Davis is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2020 season. It has also been reported that Davis plans to resign with the Lakers.

How Will This Effect the Lakers?

With the injuries to Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, Golden State won’t be the favorites next year. Denver, Portland, Los Angeles Clippers and Houston chances have of coming out of the west decreased. The Los Angeles Lakers are now the favorites to win the 2020 NBA Championship. The Lakers will have enough money for another max player. Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker and Jimmy Butler will be targeted.

How Will This Effect New Orleans?

New Orleans have the #1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Zion Williamson is believed to be that pick. New Orleans will build around Williamson as he’s been labeled as the next big star in the NBA. New Orleans will now have the 4th overall pick also. New Orleans could use that pick to draft another star like Darius Garland, DeAndre Hunter or Colby White. On the other hand, the Pelicans could trade the pick to move up to draft R.J. Barrett. New Orleans could also use the 4th pick to trade down and get more assets. With Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart, they have 3 quality players. While people will talk about the Lakers, New Orleans set their future up pretty good also. In the end, both teams came out well with the trade.
