Los Angeles Clippers Kawhi Leonard Agree to Deal

The Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard have agreed on a 4-year, $142 million dollar contract. The Clippers were one of the three teams in the running to acquire the services Kawhi Leonard. It has been reported that the fear of a Lakers dynasty is what triggered the deal. With the Clippers adding Leonard immediately put them into contention, they weren’t done dealing. The Clippers dealt Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, four unprotected first-round picks, a protected first-round pick and two pick swaps. With the Lakers clearing space with the hopes of signing Kawhi, the Clippers were willing to do anything. With the addition of Leonard and George, the Clippers become instant title contenders.

What Does This Mean for the Los Angeles Clippers?

Paul George is scheduled to miss the first few weeks of the regular season due to shoulder surgery. Either way, with the addition of two top-tier players who’s great on both ends, they should be title contenders. The Clippers, Lakers, Jazz, Nuggets, Blazers and Rockets will be battling in the west. The battle of Los Angeles will be the best we’ve ever seen and will be fun to watch throughout the season.

What Does This Mean for the Toronto Raptors?

The loss of Kawhi Leonard will be huge for the Raptors because he was their best player. On the other side, Leonard missed 22 games last season and they still played great. The loss of Danny Green will be felt because he was a really good 2-way player. Green was a great spot-up shooter and held his own on the defensive end. Danny Green signed a 2-year, $30 million dollar deal. The Raptors retained Marc Gasol and they still have Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakim also. The Raptors are still a good team, but they’re not a title contender but a playoff team.

What Does This Mean to the Oklahoma City Thunder?

While losing Paul George will be huge, they came away with a great amount of assets. Danilo Gallinari played like an all-star last year. Gallinari is entering the final year of his deal and could be used in a trade package. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was one of the better rookies last season and have a great future ahead of him. Gilgeous-Alexander could be a piece to build around for the future if the Thunder choose to rebuild. If the Thunder were to start rebuilding, they could get a lot by trading Russell Westbrook as he’s in his prime. Westbrook signed his supermax, but a lot of teams are already inquiring about his services.
