Welcome to Week 5 of the 2019 college football season. My record from last week was 5-1, which improved the overall record to 10-3. My winning percentage jumped from 71.4 to 76.9%. The big game from a week ago didn’t disappoint as Georgia edged out Notre Dame. The only loss suffered for me was the Auburn Tigers going to Aggie land and beating Texas A&M. We saw the Wisconsin Badgers make a statement by destroying the Michigan Wolverines. USC used their high powered offense to upset the Utah Utes. This weekend we have a pair of games where ranked teams face each other. The 18th ranked Virginia Cavaliers travel to South Bend to face 10th ranked Notre Dame. Out west, the 21st ranked USC Trojans travels to Washington to face the 17th ranked Cougars. Hopefully I’ll maintain my 70% winning percentage with these four games we’re predicting. Let’s get started!
We have the only match-up between top-20 teams this weekend. The 18th ranked Virginia Cavaliers will travel to South Bend to face the 10th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Cavaliers are looking for a signature win to hopefully bring football back to the school. They barely beat Old Dominion last week, but they could’ve been looking ahead. They have beat Florida State and went on the road and beat a tough Pitt team. Can they upset the Irish? Notre Dame is coming off that tough loss in Athens last week against Georgia. With that loss, many believe Notre Dame could run the table and still make the playoffs. The defense proved to be one of the tougher ones and the offense went up against a high profiled defense. Can the Fighting Irish erase the Georgia loss with a win over Virginia? I’m thinking they’ll beat Virginia to get back on track.
Notre Dame Win 34-21
We head to the west coast and the Pac-12 conference? The 21st ranked USC Trojans travel up to Washington to face the 17th ranked Huskies. The Trojans are coming off a huge upset over the Utah Utes. USC is looking to reestablish themselves in the Pac-12. The offense looked like the Trojan offense we’re used to. Can they continue that momentum on the road? Washington have seemed to found their groove after their loss to California three weeks ago. Jacob Eason possess one of the strongest arms in the country and the offense have looked great. Can Washington continue their winning ways and beat the Trojans? This is a tough one, but I’ll roll with the Huskies to leave with the victory.
Washington Win 38-28
This is the Saturday night game on ABC. The 5th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers in a Big Ten battle. Ohio State haven’t missed a beat the entire season. Justin Fields have guided the offense to damn near perfection. On the defensive side, the Buckeyes haven’t faced much of a challenge. With the Buckeyes finally facing a challenge for the first time since Urban Meyer left, how will they fare? Nebraska is looking to get back to national prominence for the first time in a long time. This is the kind of game that Scott Frost can use if he plans to bring Nebraska back to the forefront. Do the Cornhuskers have enough on offense to rattle the Buckeye defense? Can the Nebraska defense contain Justin Fields? This should be a good game but I’m going with the Buckeyes to prevail.
Ohio State Win 34-31
This is the first of two games that’ll be watched closely on Friday night. The 12th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions head to Maryland to battle the Terrapins. Penn State is coming off their bye week and two weeks removed from them edging Pitt. Penn State have lost a lot on both sides of the ball, but they still have a wonderful team. Will the Nittany Lions prove their one of the better teams in the Big Ten? Maryland started the season with one of the more explosive offenses. They put up 63 points against a then 21st ranked Syracuse team. Two weeks ago, Temple shut down the offense and handled the Terrapins. Maryland is still looking to reestablish their program and a win over Penn State could do it. Can the Terrapins find their groove again? Can they pull off the upset against the Nittany Lions at home? I’m rolling with the Terrapins to get by the Nittany Lions.
Maryland Win 31-24
