Another weekend and in college football we had another major upset. This time, Oklahoma got bit by the bug and fell on the road to Kansas State. The Sooners loss 48-41 and that will hurt their playoff chances, but they’re not completely out. Welcome to Week 10 of the college football season as we enter the month of November. My record last week was 3-1, which lowered my overall record to 28-7. My winning percentage dropped from 80.7 to 80%. The Michigan Wolverines came alive last week by trouncing Notre Dame to make a statement. Texas was another team that was upset as they lost to TCU. In one of the more anticipated games, Ohio State took apart Wisconsin 38-7. In a great SEC West battle, LSU held off Auburn 23-20 setting up 1-vs-2 in two weeks in Alabama. This week, there will be four games to be predicted.
This game is has always been called the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. The 8th ranked Georgia Bulldogs take on the 6th ranked Florida Gators for first place in the SEC East. The Bulldogs fell to the Gamecocks a few weeks back at home. The lone loss by Florida was to a tough Auburn team earlier in the season. With Georgia, the defense is as physical as any team in the country. The offense is another story because the lack of a passing game. Jake Fromm is a great quarterback and figured to be a first round pick in next year’s NFL Draft. The receivers the Bulldogs have lack experience and Florida is the wrong team to face with that problem. Florida is a complete team as the defense can compete with anyone in the nation.
The offense is legit, but the quarterback play is the question for the Gators. If Georgia were to win, they need to pressure the QB for the Gators. Can the Bulldogs control the line of scrimmage on both sides? This could be a low scoring game with these two defenses. In the end, I’m trusting Jake Fromm more and think that’ll be the difference.
Georgia Win 20-17
Who had the SMU Mustangs being undefeated and ranked 15th going into November? This weekend they have their toughest test as they travel to Memphis to face the 24th ranked Tigers. This game has a lot of implications riding on it. They both are in the American Conference West Division. Memphis is tied with Navy for second behind SMU. The Mustangs have looked great on both sides of the ball. They had a tough time with the feisty Houston squad, but they won. Can the Mustangs continue their Cinderella season on the road against Memphis? The Tigers just edged Tulsa by one point and this SMU team will be a much tougher task. Memphis suffered their only defeat a few weeks ago on the road at Temple. If the Tigers beat the Mustangs, they control to West seeing they beat Navy already. I’m going with Memphis at home to hand SMU their first loss.
Memphis Win 38-35
We head out west for this key Pac-12 matchup. The 7th ranked Oregon Ducks will travel to Los Angeles to battle the USC Trojans. The Ducks are coming off a tough win on the road against Washington. With the win, Oregon has catapulted them into playoff consideration. Oregon loss to Auburn at the start of the season and haven’t dropped a game since. With Justin Herbert running the show, can they continue their winning ways on the road? After dropping two in a row, the Trojans won the last two convincingly. USC is still trying to play for a Pac-12 championship seeing they’re tied atop of the Pac-12 South. The Trojans are tied with Utah, whom they hold the tiebreaker over them since they beat the Utes. This could be a preview of the title game and I’m riding with the Ducks.
Oregon Win 34-24
We stay out west and the Pac-12 conference to be exact. The 9th ranked Utah Utes will travel to the Pacific Northwest to face the Washington Huskies. Like Oregon, Utah is hoping they can continue winning with the hopes of getting playoff consideration. The Utes only loss came at the hands of the USC Trojans. Utah is hoping to continue winning and the Trojans lose to reach the conference championship game. Can Utah beat Washington on the road? Washington started the season with a lot of hopes of being one of the better teams in the conference. Unfortunately, they’ve suffered some losses on the way and now they hope to play spoiler. With Utah wishing playoff berth, the Huskies would love to end those dreams. Can they pull off the upset against the Utes? I’m rolling with the Utes to leave Washington with the win.
Utah Win 31-24
The final game of the weekend of predictions is a rivalry I’ve watched over the years. The Miami Hurricanes will travel to Tallahassee to face the Florida State Seminoles. Throughout the years, this was one of the most anticipated games of the season. Unfortunately, both of these teams have been struggling over the last few years. Both teams enter this game with the record of 4-4. If they want to even be eligible for a bowl game, this is a must win situation. They both have shown glimpses of great play, but not for an entire 60 minutes. The offensive line of the Seminoles will have their hands full with the defensive front. The Seminole defense is good also and this could be a defensive game. In the end, I’m going with the Seminoles to win at home.
Florida State Win 20-17
