As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release for The Chronic 2001, Snoop Dogg has an anniversary also. 15 years ago today, Snoop Dogg dropped R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece. This was Snoop’s 7th solo album and his second project on his own label. The first single was a classic track featuring Pharrell called Drop It Likes It’s Hot. The Neptunes produced a lot of Snoop because this album was also a part of their Star Trak label. Drop It Like It’s Hot went gold and the ringtone went double platinum. The reason I’m mentioning ringtone is because it was one of the few I had on my phone. This track was heard everywhere and was the #1 song in the country for three weeks. Drop It Like It’s Hot helped the Rhythm & Gangsta album almost go double platinum.
For the next single, Snoop Dogg teamed with Pharrell once again. Let’s Get Blown was the track and they had another hit on their hands. Let’s Get Blown didn’t have the same impact as the first single, but it’s still dope. Both of these tracks are featured on my Snoop Dogg Greatest Hits playlist. Snoop Dogg released a couple more singles after Let’s Get Blown. Neither had the impact as the first two though. 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Nelly, Charlie Wilson, Pharrell, Bootsy Collins, Lil Jon and Trina all appeared on the album. While no Snoop album will top Doggystyle, this Rhythm & Gangsta album is a quality release. Check out the track listing below and it’s followed by the stream links.
