2019 College Football Conference Championships Predictions

Welcome to Week 15 aka the 2019 Conference Championships of the college football season. The new rankings are out and the top 4 remains the same. With Auburn beating Alabama, the Crimson Tide is removed from any playoff consideration. Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor are ranked five, six and seven now. My record last week was 5-2, which dropped my overall mark to 50-11. The winning percentage dips from 83.3 to 82%. The top five games are on my list to predict with the hopes of remaining at the 80% mark. Let’s get started!

We start things off with the SEC Championship game. The 2nd ranked LSU Tigers will battle the 4th ranked Georgia Bulldogs for a spot in the college football playoffs. The Tigers come into this game undefeated and one of the best offenses in the country. Joe Burrow has shot himself up the Heisman leader board and mock drafts. Many believe LSU will be in the playoffs regardless of the outcome of this game. While the offense gets a lot of shine for the Tigers, the defense has struggled this year. Can LSU capture the SEC title and remain undefeated? Georgia has been holding onto the fourth and final spot the last few weeks. If they were to lose, teams like Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor could get that final spot.

The Bulldogs are a completely different team than LSU. Georgia’s offense has been a question mark for most of the season. On the defensive side of the ball, the Bulldogs are one of the best in the nation. Georgia will need to find a way to keep Burrow off the field to win. Unfortunately, the offense of Georgia won’t get that done and will lead to their demise.

LSU Win 34-24

We have the Big 12 Championship game between teams that battled each other earlier in the year. The 7th ranked Baylor Bears will take on the 6th ranked Oklahoma Sooners. Three weeks ago, Oklahoma handed Baylor their only loss of the season. The Bears lead the Sooners 28-3 in the second quarter in what seemed to be en route to a blowout. Before that game, Baylor was written off as a contender because of their schedule. After beating Texas and manhandling them on defense, the country took notice that they’re a talented team. Baylor could get redemption on the Sooners and possibly sneak into the playoffs. They would need Georgia and Utah to fall to make that happen, but we’ve seen crazier things.

As far as Oklahoma goes, they’re hoping for losses by Utah and Georgia also. Once again, the Sooners offense has carried this team. If the defense could elevate themselves to a decent group, they’d be undefeated. Can the Sooners beat the Bears again? I’m going with the Sooners to win it again.

Oklahoma Win 34-31

We head out west for the Pac-12 Championship that’ll be played on Friday night. The 5th ranked Utah Utes will battle the 13th Oregon Ducks. Before Oregon fell victim to Arizona State three weeks ago, they were ranked ahead of the Utes. Oregon will look to play spoiler and ruin the playoff chances of the Utes. Oregon is out of consideration for the playoffs, but the Rose Bowl is a wonderful way to fall back. Can Justin Herbert do enough against the tough and scrappy Utah defense? Utah is in a nice position, but they need to win on Friday first. If Georgia were to lose on Saturday, the Utes would likely be the fourth and final team. The Utes defense has been called the best defense in the country.

On the offensive side, they’re just as good as the defense. Tyler Huntley is one of the more underrated QBs in the country. With the playoffs at their fingertips, can the Utes beat the Ducks? I’m rolling with the Utes to win the Pac-12 title.

Utah Win 30-27

We head to the Big Ten for their championship game. The top ranked Ohio State Buckeyes meet the 8th ranked Wisconsin Badgers. As we all know, this is a rematch from earlier in the year when the Buckeyes blew out Wisconsin. With the Buckeyes dismantling Michigan last week, they have separated themselves from the pack. The offense can get you on the ground or the air. With the defense, they have the best player in the country in Chase Young. Can Ohio State defeat Wisconsin for a second time? Wisconsin have been playing inspired ball ever since they were blown out by this Buckeyes team. With Johnathon Taylor in the backfield, can they utilize him to slow down Ohio State? Is it possible that we see a major upset in this game? Ohio State is too good and disciplined so I’m riding with them.

Ohio State Win 41-24

We head down south to ACC country as the 3rd ranked Clemson Tigers will battle the Virginia Cavaliers. Clemson is looking to defend their national championship. Despite winning 28 games in a row, the Tigers haven’t been given their proper respect. Some have pointed to that game against North Carolina where they almost loss. Many others have brought up that their schedule has been mediocre. Either way, Clemson is a team that turns it on when needed. Virginia earned the right to be in the ACC Championship game by beating their in-State rival, Virginia Tech. Virginia is the 23rd ranked team in the country and have quietly put together an impressive season. For the Cavaliers to pull off this shocker, they must play the perfect game. In the end, Clemson is on a mission and will beat Virginia.
