Ludacris is one of the most underrated rappers to ever pick up a mic. Ludacris hit the scene 20 years ago with his Back for the First Time album. It was his second album and the first one with a major label. Incognegro was his first album and it was released independently the year before. Back for the First Time went on to sell over 3 million copies and made Ludacris an instant star. What’s Your Fantasy was the first single off the album and it went on to go platinum. Ludacris showed he was just having fun while putting out some witty lyrics. The video was crazy, and it established Luda as one of the coldest spitter in the game. Shawnna was featured on the hook and she was signed to his Disturbing the Peace label.
At the beginning of 2001, Ludacris dropped the single Southern Hospitality. Southern Hospitality didn’t have the success of What’s Your Fantasy, but it was another classic track. Back for the First Time featured UGK, Pastor Troy, Trina, Foxy Brown and his artists from Disturbing the Peace. Word of Mouf is my favorite album from Ludacris, but this is my third favorite joint from him. It’s been rumored that Ludacris is working on his 10th album with the help of Timbaland. Ludacris has also announced a deal with Netflix for an animated series. Check out my top 5 tracks off of Back for the First Time. Peep the track listing and stream links below.
