The 90s had so much talent that there were a lot of groups or artists that got overlooked. One of those groups was the Lost Boyz. The Lost Boyz consisted of Mr. Cheeks, Freaky Tah, DJ Spigg Nice and Pretty Lou. They released their debut album 25 years ago today. Legal Drug Money was the name and it debuted #1 in the hip hop/R&B category. Legal Drug Money eventually went gold off the strength of an unprecedented five singles. Jeeps, Lex Coups, Bimaz & Benz were the first single to be released. It dropped way back in the late summer of 1995. The track was the typical Lost Boyz sound that made you want to dance. Renee was the second single that followed, and it quickly became one of my favorite tracks. It was released in January of 1996 and it was a top 5 hit for the Lost Boyz.
They released a remix on the Don’t Be a Menace While Drinking Juice in the Hood soundtrack. About a month later, the Lost Boyz dropped their third single off the album. Lifestyle of the Rich & Shameless was the name and it was another banger from the Lost Boyz. Lifestyles of the Rich & Shameless was a top-10 rap single after its release. The fourth single, Music Makes Me High was another party joint and it was a top-5 rap single. Get Up was the fifth and final single off Legal Drug Money and the only single to drop after the album was released. Unfortunately, the Lost Boyz only released two other lackluster albums. With the death of Freaky Tah, it really hurt the group. Either way, the Legal Drug Money project is really good. Check out the track listing and stream links below for Legal Drug Money.
