Silkk the Shocker Made Man Dropped 25 Years Ago

Silkk the Shocker has been the butt of a lot of jokes over the years. Some publications and podcasts and even critics have called him the worst rapper of all-time. It doesn’t matter what you think about him because he sold records. Silkk the Shocker released his solo, debut album back in 1996 and it was called The Shocker. During this time, he was only known as Silkk was also a part of the group TRU. TRU released three albums and that includes the classic double joint True 2 Da Game. Silkk the Shocker was also a part of the 504 Boyz that included Master P, Mystikal, C-Murder and Krazy.…

Silkk the Shocker Released Charge It to the Game 20 Years Ago

After Death Row Records and Suave House kind of fell apart, No Limit Records jumped right in. During that time, Master P was putting out an album damn near every other week. The marketing during that time was top-notched because he advertised future releases on all the albums. During that time, the Source Magazine was popping, and he placed ads in those magazines also. Master P had so many artists and to be honest, all their albums was dope. On February 17, 1998, Silkk the Shocker dropped Charge It to the Game, his follow-up to his debut, The Shocker album. For this album, Silkk the Shocker went in a totally…

Master P Mystikal Silkk the Shocker Let’s Get Em

On Sept 2, 1997 Master P released his classic Ghetto Dope album. After the successful releases of his Ice Cream Man album and I’m Bout It Soundtrack, Master P was on top of the hip hop world. For the Ghetto Dope album, P had the entire No Limit label on the album. Everyone from Silkk the Shocker, C-Murder, Mystikal, Mia X, Fiend, Mac and the rest of the tank appeared on the album. For my Throwback Thursday, I’m featuring the 2nd track on the album. The track is called Let’s Get ‘Em and it featured Silkk the Shocker & Mystikal. They all did their thing over the classic Beats by…

The Shocker From Silkk Turns 25 Today

No Limit Records is one of my favorite record labels of all-time. Death Row Records is my number one, but No Limit is a close second. Silkk the Shocker was one of the bigger artists during their time at the top. 25 years ago today, Silkk released his debut album The Shocker. The Shocker was released at a time when No Limit was starting to make a name for themselves. Back in the spring of 1996, Master P dropped his Ice Cream Man album. The Ice Cream Man album went platinum and No Limit was no longer just a popular southern act. Four months later, Silkk came with his debut…

C-Murder Bossalinie Released 25 Years Ago Today

C-Murder was one of the more popular rappers from No Limit Records. C-Murder is the younger brother of Master P and together they formed the group TRU with their other brother Silkk the Shocker. Unfortunately, C-Murder is serving a life sentence for shooting and killing a 16-year-old at the New Orleans Platinum Club in 2009. The rapper has been appealing his sentence and even Kim Kardashian has come to his defense. In November of 2023, his conviction was held up and will remain in prison. Before all that, C-Murder was one of the more established rappers on No Limit. In 1998, he released his debut album, Life of Death…

MP Da Last Don From Master P Released 25 Years Ago Today

Master P is known to the younger generation as this entrepreneur who has his hands in everything. Back in the 90s, we knew him as the colonel of the Tank. Master P was the owner of No Limit Records. No Limit Records is my second favorite rap label ever and Master P was dropping albums every month. 25 years ago today, Master P released his seventh album called MP Da Last Don. MP Da Last Don was billed as the retirement album from Master P. Master P enjoyed a crazy run starting with the Ice Cream Man album that put him on the map. Ghetto D made him one of…

Eightball Dropped His Lost Album 25 Years Ago Today

If you followed southern hip hop in the 90s, then you are all too familiar with Eightball and MJG. Comin’ Out Hard was their Suave House Records debut album. They dropped that album in the summer of 1993, and it was an instant classic. The following spring, they dropped On Tha Outside Lookin’ In. On Tha Outside Lookin’ In was another instant classic and my personal favorite album of theirs. In the fall of 1995, they reached gold status with their On Top of the World album. On Top of the World was their most successful album and it produced Space Age Pimpin. Eightball and MJG would be a part…

Soulja Slim Released Give It 2 Em Raw 25 Years Ago

Soulja Slim has been referred to as the 2Pac of New Orleans. Unfortunately, like Pac Slim had his life cut short after being shot. Soulja Slim passed away in November of 2003. Before passing away, Soulja Slim was a part of the No Limit Records dynasty. The first time hearing him was on the Down South Hustlers compilation Master P put out. During that time, he was known as Magnolia Slim because he was from the Magnolia Projects. Soulja Slim reappeared on the I Got the Hook Up Soundtrack the previous month. Slim had a track called From What I Was Told that was featured on the soundtrack. From What…

Fiend There’s One In Every Family Released 25 Years Ago Today

In 1998, No Limit Records was the hottest hip hop label in the world. Silkk the Shocker, C-Murder, Young Bleed, and the I Got the Hook Up Soundtrack all dropped at the start of 1998. All those joints dropped before the end of April. You know that Master P was dropping a new album damn near every other week. There’s One in Every Family dropped 25 years ago from Fiend. This was Fiend’s debut album on No Limit Records and it’s one of my favorite No Limit albums. Fiend made a name for himself by appearing on Ghetto D, Life or Death, Charge It 2 Da Game and other No…

C-Murder Released His Debut Life or Death 25 Years Ago

In the late-90s, No Limit Records was the hottest label in the rap game. During their run, they were known for releasing an album about every other week. Master P was a marketing genius because he would advertise upcoming releases in the booklet and on the back of No Limit releases. In 1998, No Limit Records was dropping classic album after classic. C-Murder released his debut joint called Life or Death 25 years ago today. Many people have said its arguably the best album released under the No Limit umbrella. After being a part of the group TRU and making appearances on several No Limit joints it was his turn.…

Soulja Slim At the Same Time Featuring Snoop Dogg

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. This week was another one with a lot of music being played. There were some R&B being played with the debut joint from Lyfe Jennings. Michael Jackson Bad album and J.E. Heartbreak II from Jagged Edge. Eazy-E final album, Better Dayz from 2Pac and The Soul Tape 2 from Fabolous got some play. There were a couple others, but as you can see a lot of good music made my playlist this week. The late, great Soulja Slim’s Streets Made Me was also played and it got me thinking about his debut joint. Streets Made Me was…

Mr. Serv On Heaven Is So Close for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. My playlist this past week was pretty much all west and south. Better Dayz from 2Pac, Restless by Xzibit and Yukmouth’s double album was played. The south was also represented as mentioned early. Still Standing from Goodie Mob kicked things off and DTP’s Golden Grain followed. The late, great Pimp C’s Naked Soul of Sweet Jones brought back memories. On Top of the World from 8Ball & MJG made an appearance and Ciara’s The Evolution was also played. The final one that I’ll mention is where my featured track will come from. Life Insurance was the debut…

Let’s Chill by Guy for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. This was the first week where R&B was played more than hip hop. Ginuwine, Michael Jackson, Monica, Marvin Gaye and the Waiting to Exhale Soundtrack were bumped. On the hip hop side, E-40, Busta Rhymes, Do or Die, Celly Cel and Silkk the Shocker made the playlist. As you can see, there were many to select from to be featured for Throwback Thursday. One album that wasn’t mentioned was The Future by Guy. This album was released all the way in November of 1990. The group Guy was led by the legendary producer Teddy Riley. The album…

C Murder Feel My Pain for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. My playlist started off with the late, great Aaliyah’s final album. The Versus joint from Usher, Snoop’s Ego Trippin’ and Jay-Z’s Dynasty album was also played. D-Block, a couple of mixtapes and Piece of Mind by Tela also made the playlist. As you can see, this was another good week of some great music. For my featured Throwback Thursday track, we’re going with one of the best albums to come from No Limit Records. C Murder’s Life or Death album is a classic album. It featured damn near everyone on the label and went platinum just like…

Ice Cream Man by Master P Released 25 Years Ago

Master P is one of the many rappers that will never get their well-deserved props. Master P was the owner and CEO of No Limit Records. For those who are not familiar with No Limit, check out these 27 albums you should have in your collection. Master P was the ultimate hustler seeing he put out music, movies, toys and even a crack at the NBA. In total, P put out 16 albums, a few mixtapes & compilations and 3 movie soundtracks. Those soundtracks were I Got the Hook Up, I’m Bout It and Foolish. P started getting recognition after his 4th album, 99 Ways to Die. On his 5th…

If I Could Change Master P From I’m Bout It Soundtrack

I’m Bout It Soundtrack was one of the best albums from No Limit Records. The soundtrack went on to sell almost 4 million copies worldwide. I’m Bout It produced several hits like How Ya Do Dat, Pushin’ Inside You and Ride 4U. One of the bigger hits from the soundtrack was a track by Master P and Steady Mobb’n. If I Could Change is the track and the featured Throwback Thursday joint. If I Could Change was a dope track and one of my favorite featuring Master P. The track set the tone for the debut album from Steady Mobb’n called Premeditated Drama. Steady Mobb’n was a solid duo for…

Snoop Dogg Still A G Thang for Throwback Thursday

It was just announced yesterday that we have a legendary Verzuz coming up next week. We have Snoop Dogg taking on DMX, which should be good and entertaining at the same time. Snoop and DMX are two of the greatest rappers to ever pick up a mic. With today being Thursday, we’re getting closer to the weekend. My playlist this week consisted of the new albums from Lil Baby and Run the Jewels, plus Volume 6 of my 2Pac B-Day Mix. We also played the Tear the Club Up Thugs, the debut joint from Jodeci and Too Short’s Can’t Stay Away. Overall, this was a great week, but with the…
