Listen and Stream 10 Classic Suave House Records Albums

Death Row and No Limit Records have always been my two favorite labels ever. My third one would have to be Suave House Records. Suave House Records was discovered by Tony Draper back in 1990. They housed artists like 8Ball & MJG, South Circle, Crime Boss, Tela and Mr. Mike. In the summer of 1993 is when I first discovered them when they dropped 8Ball & MJG’s debut album. Comin Out Hard was a southern classic and it put Suave House Records on the map. From 1993 to 1998, Suave House Records released several classic albums. After disappearing for a while, the label dropped more music, which included an album…

9 Classic Death Row Records Albums That Should Be in Your Collection

Death Row Records is one of the most iconic records labels of all-time of any genre. The label had acts like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Dogg Pound, 2Pac and many others. Death Row Records have released some of the greatest hip hop albums ever. Death Row Records became a household name back in 1992 when Dr. Dre dropped the Chronic. The following year, Snoop Dogg released his classic debut, Doggystyle. In late-1995, 2Pac dropped his megahit, All Eyez on Me after getting out of prison. The record-breaking label hasn’t been highlighted many times over the years for the right and wrong reasons. In a span of five years, the company…

Junior Mafia Dropped Conspiracy 25 Years Ago Today

Junior Mafia released Conspiracy, their debut album 25 years ago today. As we know, Junior Mafia is the group of friends he put on after his classic Ready to Die album. This album has some significance to me because this was the first CD I purchase after leaving cassettes. Junior Mafia’s Conspiracy went on to go gold on the strength of 3 singles. Player’s Anthem was the first single and it featured Notorious Big, Lil’ Kim and Lil’ Cease. Player’s Anthem went on to sell over 500, 000 copies and put the spotlight on Cease and Kim. Player’s Anthem was a great single from the album and was a dope…

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Released 25 Years Ago by Raekwon

The Wu Tang Clan became instant hip hop stars when they released the 36 Chambers album. Afterwards, just about every member released a solo project. Method Man, Ghostface, GZA and ODB went on to drop solo joints after the 36 Chambers album. 25 years ago today, Raekwon dropped one of the greatest hip hop albums ever. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx or the Purple Tape changed the game when it dropped. They called it the Purple Tape because the cassette tape was purple, which was different from the others. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx went on to go platinum. Raekwon dropped four singles off the album with the first…

This Is How We Do It Montell Jordan for Throwback Thursday

Once again, we have arrived at another Thursday which makes it closer to the weekend. The Wu Massacre album and Fishscale by Ghostface were a couple albums played this week. My personal Jeezy Greatest Hits and disc 1 of 2Pac Greatest Hits were also played along with the new Rhapsody album. Montell Jordan’s debut album was the final one this week. This is How We Do It went on to become an iconic track. 25 years later, it’s still one of those songs you hear and immediately start singing. This is one of those songs that’ll have you dancing in your 60s. My Throwback Thursday track is the title track…

Tonight is the world premiere of the No Limit Chronicles on BET. No Limit Records had one of the great runs in hip hop. Master P was dropping a new album from a different artist every other week. Rick Ross Released Teflon Don 10 Years Ago Today

Rick Ross released Teflon Don 10 years ago today. Teflon Don marked his fourth album and to me it marked him transitioning to a great rapper. Rick Ross just teamed with August Alsina to drop the Entanglement track, which adds to the Will and Jada drama. Teflon is the second biggest selling album in his discography as it only trails his debut, Port of Miami album. Less than two months before Teflon Don, Rick Ross dropped the dope Albert Anastasia EP mixtape. The year before, Rick Ross dropped his Deeper Than Rap album which was another great album. During the Deeper Than Rap album, Rick Ross was beefing with 50…

Keith Sweat I’ll Give All My Love to You 30 Year Anniversary

Keith Sweat is one of the greatest musicians to come out of Atlanta. In 1987, Keith Sweat released his classic Make It Last Forever. Two and a half years later, Keith Sweat returned with his second album. I’ll Give All My Love to You was the name and it had huge expectations. Ill Give All My Love to You dropped 30 years ago today. Naughty by Nature Poverty’s Paradise Released 25 Years Ago

Naughty by Nature is one of the illest hip hop groups to ever pick up a mic. This past Thursday, their classic Feel Me Flow was my featured Throwback Thursday track. Feel Me Flow is one of the singles released off their classic, Poverty’s Paradise album. Poverty’s Paradise went on to win the Grammy for Rap Album in 1996. 25 years ago today, Naughty by Nature released Poverty’s Paradise to the world. Treach, Vinny Rock and K-Gee released a masterpiece to the world. This was their fourth album and eventually went gold, which still surprises me that it didn’t sell more. Common Released Be 15 Years Ago

Common is one of the illest rappers to ever pick up a microphone. 15 years ago today, Common dropped his sixth album, Be. Be marked his first album in two and half years as he went in another direction. Common signed with Chicago’s own, Kanye West and his GOOD Music label. One thing about Kanye’s production is that he’ll provide some soulful melodies. By teaming up with Common, this is exactly what we got as fans. Within one year, Common dropped five dope singles off the Be album. The Food, The Corner, Go!, Testify and Faithful were the singles.  Overall, the album was well received and even XXL gave Be…

Friday Soundtrack Released 25 Years Ago Today

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the Friday soundtrack. Friday is one of my all-time favorite movies. The movie is viewed by many as a classic and definite hood classic. With such an amazing movie, you know that the soundtrack had to be nice. With Ice Cube, one of the greatest rappers overseeing it you know it would be good. The Friday Soundtrack would debut as the top album and remained there for two weeks. Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Cypress Hill, Isley Brothers, Mack 10, Roger Troutman and many more appeared on the project. Ice Cube put out a video for the title track. The lone single…

Beanie Sigel The B. Coming Released 15 Years Ago Today

Beanie Sigel was undoubtedly one of the hardest rappers to come in the game in the 2000s. Last month, Sigel celebrated the 20th anniversary of his hard-hitting debut album, The Truth. A little over a year later, Beanie Sigel dropped his follow-up, The Reason. Almost four years later, Beanie released his third album, The B. Coming. The B. Coming had its fair share of guest appearances and it made this another classic in Beanie Sigel’s discography. Snoop Dogg, Bun B, Jay-Z, Redman, Cam’Ron, Freeway, Twista and many more. The amount of growth shown on The B. Coming was impressive and Beanie became a better storyteller in the process. The Neptunes,…

Usher Dropped Raymond vs. Raymond 10 Years Ago Today

It’s hard to believe that Usher has been in the game for over 25 years now. Usher hasn’t released a studio album in over 3 years. There are rumors that he’s working on a new album that could be released this year. Confessions is one of my all-time favorite albums. 10 years ago today, Usher released his sixth studio album, Raymond vs. Raymond. Overall, this was a great album that produced a lot of great tracks. A couple of them appeared on my Usher Greatest Hits playlist on Spotify. If you’re an Usher fan, you would probably agree with me on good this album was. The album went platinum and…

As many of you may know, Kendrick Lamar is my favorite new school rapper along with J. Cole. To Pimp a Butterfly went on to sell over a million copies and won a Grammy for Best Rap album. The album received its fair share of praise and criticism. It was ranked as the best album of 2015 by many publications, including Rolling Stone, Billboard and Pitchfork.
