New Jack City Soundtrack Turns 30 Years Old Today

New Jack City is one of my favorite movies of all-time. The movie was released 30 years ago and it’s still one of those that never get old. Just like every other great movie from the 90s, we always waited for the soundtrack. Above the Rim, Waiting to Exhale, I’m Bout It and many more were classics that came out in the 90s. The New Jack City Soundtrack turns 30 years old today. The New Jack City Soundtrack was a good mixture of hip hop and R&B. Keith Sweat, Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Color Me Badd, 2 Live Crew and Johnny Gill appeared on the soundtrack. New Jack City Soundtrack debuted…

With Valentine’s Day being this weekend, let’s go in another direction. My wife will receive some Bouq flowers, more Pandora pieces for her bracelet and a couple more things. For Valentine’s though, the best gift is time especially when you both work a lot. For this Throwback Thursday, I decided to put together a little mix for everyone to celebrate with their loved one. Check out these 21 tracks for my 2021 Valentine’s Day Mix. Check…

Kendrick Lamar Compilation for Mixtape Friday

Last week, we highlighted J. Cole as he’s one of two favorite artists of this generation. This week, we’re highlighting the other one and it’s none other than Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick Lamar has released four studio albums and the Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City being his breakout project. Kendrick has also released a countless number of mixtapes, collaborations and features over the years. Kendrick hasn’t released a new album in over two and half years. Damn was the last album he dropped, and it went triple platinum. Either way, he has enough material to hold us over until he decides to release some new music. For this Kendrick Lamar playlist, there…

Best of 1988 Hip Hop for Mixtape Friday

We have finally arrived at Friday once again, so you know what that means? It’s time for another Mixtape Friday and I’m hoping all my old-school hip hop heads will enjoy it. After traveling back to the 90s with Suave House Records last week, we’re going to the 80s. As far as the 80s go, we’re going to the year of 1988. By all accounts, this was the year of the original Golden Age of Hip Hop. Eric B & Rakim, Slick Rick, EPMD, Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy, N.W.A. and Boogie Down Productions all dropped classics. This was the era that made me fall in love with hip hop.…

Best of 1994 Hip Hop for Mixtape Friday

1994 was a special year if you’re a fan of hip hop. We all can agree that 1988 was the original Golden Era of Hip Hop. 1994 saw all-time great albums like Illmatic, Ready to Die, The Diary and Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik drop. While Nas, Biggie, Scarface and Outkast released classics others like GangStarr, O.C., Redman, Warren G and Method Man dropped dope projects. The mid-90s starting with 1993 to around 1997 is considered the second Golden Era of Hip Hop. With my new Mixtape Friday format, this is a compilation that I put together in honor of 1994 Hip Hop. There’s close to one hundred songs and it’s divided into four…

Daddy’s Hangout Presents Mixtape Friday Volume 25

Once again, it’s time for another Mixtape Friday. We started the week off with another of my Joints set. This was Joints 41 and there’s about 12 tracks off that project. Kendrick Lamar’s New West Volume 2 was next. Honestly, we don’t know if it’s an actual project or not. Mixtape Friday Volume 24 followed that and Nas’s Illmatic came afterwards. The debut album from T.I., I’m Serious was the next album. Fly Shit from Playa Fly came up next. The final album of the week believe it or not was Lil Bow Wow. Once again, this proves I’ll listen to everything as Bow Wow got four tracks on here.…

Best of First Half 2019 Throwback Thursday

First off, Rest in Peace all the way in heaven to my dad who would’ve been 70-years-old today. One thing my dad instilled in me and that’s the love of music. With the halfway point of 2019 in a few days, we will put together all the Throwback Thursday joints from the first half of 2019. 2019 have been eventful year thus far as we tragically loss Nipsey Hussle on April 1st. Earlier this month, we lost the legendary Bushwick Bill of the Geto Boys from pancreatic cancer. As far as albums, we haven’t had a lot of great ones as the Jim Jones one stands out to me. Below…

Daddy’s Hangout Presents Mixtape Friday Volume 24

Welcome to another week for Mixtape Friday. This week, we’ll have Mixtape Friday Volume 24. Everything started with a dope mixtape. DJ Prime Cuts released a classic mixtape with a lot of old-school hip hop. There are about 9 tracks from that project is featured. The following album I listened to be the Greatest Hits from Jon B. There are six tracks from Jon B, and it’s followed by a Big Mike Mixtape. There’s only a pair of tracks that’ll appear on this compilation. Mixtape Friday Volume 23 was next and hopefully you all checked it out. With the 48th Birthday Of 2Pac, my latest installment was next. For the…

    Daddy’s Hangout Presents 2Pac B-Day Mix Vol. 8

First off, Happy Birthday to the late, great Tupac Shakur. 2Pac would’ve been 48-years-old today and could you imagine Pac being 48? If you know me personally or online, you know that 2Pac is forever my personal Greatest Of All Time. It’s crazy that he’s been gone almost 23 years and he’s just as influential in a lot of today’s artists. As far as my 2Pac B-Day Mixes, this is Volume 8 and most likely the final one. For all my fellow Pac fans, you can peep the previous seven. For his 48th birthday, I’ll be putting together another 21 joints from 2Pac. These tracks are from his albums, features…

    J. Cole Dropped The Warm Up Mixtape 10 Years Ago

    J. Cole dropped The Warm Up mixtape 10 years ago today. The Warm Up was the follow up to his first mixtape, The Come Up that was released in 2007. Fast forward to 2019, J. Cole is one of the best rappers in the game. J. Cole is the head of his own label, Dreamville and they’re gearing up to release a compilation. Many people online knew how much I loved music before my blogging days, so they shared this and The Come Up with me. Ever since then, I’ve been a fan of J. Cole as he’s tied for my favorite new generation rapper along with Kendrick Lamar. After…

Daddy’s Hangout Presents Mixtape Friday Volume 22

We have finally made it through another week, so let’s jump into another Mixtape Friday. We started the week off with the new DJ Khaled joint, Father of Asahd. Boyz N Da Hood was next and fortunately most people were introduced to Jeezy. The classic, solo debut from Scarface, Mr. Scarface is Back followed. For you fellow Geto Boys, we’ve been hit with news that Bushwick Bill has Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Mixtape Friday Volume 21 from last week came after Scarface. The Life is Good project from Nas came after as its one of my top 5 albums by Nas. The soundtrack to one of the dopest movies, Menace…

Listen to My Top 5 Albums from Nas

We kicked things off last week with the late, great 2Pac. This week, we’ll move to my favorite rapper alive and that’s Nas. Nas has been in the game over 25 years as he made his first appearance on a record in 1991. Live at the Barbeque by Main Source was the introduction to Nas. The verse on the track garnered so much attention for Nas and it landed him a record deal. In 1994, Nas dropped his debut album, Illmatic and it has been called one of the best hip hop records of all-time. Nas have released 11 albums, which include a double disc, 2 collaboration and 3 compilations…

Daddy’s Hangout Presents Mixtape Friday Volume 9

It’s hard to believe that it’s Friday again. First off, my daughter turns 14 today so Happy Birthday to her because sometimes she checks out my site. Back to the matter at hands! This past week will feature the most tracks and that’s a total of 34. The week started with the Dirty Sprite 2 album from Future, which many people say it’s a classic. Afterwards, Bushwick Bill’s solo project, Phantom of the Rapra was next and I’ve always said Bill is a very good rapper. Last week’s compilation was next before going to the Notorious B.I.G’s Greatest Hits Volume 2. You may be thinking you haven’t heard this one…

Daddy’s Hangout Present Mixtape Friday Volume 7

It’s that time again and that’s another Mixtape Friday. This past week was another where I listened to a lot of music. Everything started out with the Get in Where You Fit In from Too Short. After that, a couple of mixtapes were on deck with P-Cutta’s Street Wars 15 and DJ Kurupt’s Unfinished Bizness. Last week’s Mixtape Friday came next and that was followed up by the late, great Whitney Houston Greatest Hits. We head back to the west coast with DJ Quik’s debut album and Man vs. Machine from Xzibit. Sons of Funk’s only album on No Limit Records and Crucial Conflict’s Final Tic were the next ones.…

    Daddy’s Hangout Presents 2Pac B-Day Mix Volume 7

It’s hard to believe that 2Pac would be turning 47-years-old today if he were alive. It’s even crazier that he’s been gone almost 22 years now. Despite being gone for that long, he still is very influential in today’s hip hop culture. Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole are my two favorite artists of today and they’ve always called themselves Makaveli Trained Soldiers. Kanye West has continued to praise 2Pac any chance he gets and talk about how much Pac spoke his mind. For the past six years, I’ve celebrated 2Pac’s birthday by putting together a B-Day Mix. The compilations consist of his greatest hits, remixes or tracks that may have…
