Interview with Underground Artist Loch

I like to take the time to announce that here at Daddys Hangout that I love to do write-ups and interviews with musical artists, whether it’s Hip Hop or R&B. I am a huge fan of music and I’m happy to do my first one with underground Indie artist Loch, who reps the ATL. His youtube channel http://youtube.com/lochofmceo has over 100 freestyles and real videos. He also have a DVD called Hip Hop Sucks which you can view the trailer on his youtube channel also. He’s currently working on a new mixtape called  Afro American Horror Story and an album Afro American Psycho which is based off American Psycho. So we hit Loch up with a few questions to let you get to know him a little better, some of his influences and where you can catch him perform.

Just tell everyone a little about yourself?

I was born in Detroit, Michigan on the West Side of 8 Mile. I moved to Atlanta at about 10 yrs old. I lived in Marietta, GA until about 16 then moved around mostly in ATL and Marietta. I use to do freestyle battles on 107.9 on a show called The Emergency Room hosted by DJ Mars and later ET. I also worked on 107.9 w/ Coco Brother and I was in a group called Thirst and Loch, that got mix show play on a couple of songs. I have performed with T.I, David Banner, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, D4L, Ceelo, Bone Crusher, Killer Mike, 2 Chainz, OJ the Juiceman,Young Dro, Philly’s Most Wanted, Boot Camp Click and more. I love horror movies, dark humor, South Park, The Boondocks and weed.I have a company called MCEO Ent. and I’m working with my people Moverite Ent w/ this Moverite campaign.

Who are some of your influences in music?

Rakim, Tribe Called Quest, Outkast, 2Pac, Eminem, Royce 5’9″, Ras Kass, Kurupt, Nas

Some artists you would love to collaborate with?

I’m about to put together a song w/ Ras Kass. Any member of Slaughterhouse, A couple of local hot acts like The 5 and Journey Brave, Eminem, Tech N9ne, Killer Mike, Andre 3000. My partners Moverite (Doom, PG the Great, The God Rod) Kamp Kaos(Maestrolungs, Vic legend, Mr. Wonderful) Snakez Santiago and Thirst.

Describe your style?

I’m very versatile, but I’m a lyricist and wordsmith. I come from the battle era so my style is aggressive like east coast MC w/elements of Southern and Midwest hip hop. Right now w/my new project Afro American Psycho, it’s all about my dark humor side mixed with real life emotions. I think this project most defines Loch musically. I just like to go in lyrically.

Any upcoming shows would you like to let everyone know about?

Right now I’m gearing up to promote my mixtape Afro American Horror Story and album Afro American Psycho. In ATL you can catch me all over, but the underground is my home. Apache Cafe and Cloud 9 are spots I perform at a lot. I plan on doing Hip Hop DX’s get Your Buzz up in NY in about 2 months. Other than that I’m rocking wherever I can.

How long have you been involved with music?

I have been rapping since about 9 yrs old. In high school my friends had a group called Native Nuttz, who were signed to now super producer DJ Toomp. I was rapping before I met them, but seeing them doing it at such an early age made it real for me. We came up in that era before Outkast blew up. We were doing showcases when they were bubbling and about to go big.

What are some of your first memories of music growing up?

Detroit was a very musical city and my mother played all the songs of that time and the past. The first song that caught my attention really was New Edition Mr. Telephone Man. Then I remember seeing commercials for The Fat Boys and Run DMC concerts and thinking it was the coolest shit I had ever seen. Micheal Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan, Phil Collins and a lot of great 80′s music is where music first hit me.

Is there a particular artist or song that made you want to get into music?

Michael Jackson, Motown 25, The Glove and The Moonwalk

Also before I let you go, everyone does the top 5 dead or alive. Could you name your 5 favorite rappers?

Rakim, 2Pac, Eminem, Jay Z and Nas
