Young Dro Hear Me Cry for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. My playlist this week consisted of a few mixtapes. Southern Smoke 16, DJ J-Boogie’s Heavy D tribute and a classic from DJ Cuttnice were all played. The Doctor’s Advocate from Game, G Code from Juvenile and T-Pain’s debut joint also made the list. There are a few that could have been the featured track, but I’ll go in another direction. One of the albums that was played was a personal mixtape I made several years ago. The mixtape featured 50 Cent, Nas, 2Pac, Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z. One artist that also made an appearance on the mixtape…

With the Verzuz battle set to go down tonight, I’m moving in another direction. As we all know, the original battle was to see T.I. go against Jeezy. The new Verzuz will see two old nemeses go at in Gucci Mane and Jeezy. If you haven’t followed either…

Twista Overnight Celebrity with Kanye West for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday, this means we’re closer to the weekend. My playlist consisted of a mixture of R&B and some hip hop of course. Musiq Soulchild, Jamie Foxx and the debut from Jagged Edge was for the R&B side. For hip hop, Busta Rhymes, the Beautiful Struggle from Talib Kweli, Ice Cube’s debut and Twista. The Adrenaline Rush 2007 album from Twista was on my playlist, but it made me think about some older Twista. We’re going back to the album after his classic, Adrenaline Rush which was the Kamikaze joint. It took Twista almost 7 years to drop the Kamikaze album, but it was well worth the wait.…

Rick Ross Released Teflon Don 10 Years Ago Today

Rick Ross released Teflon Don 10 years ago today. Teflon Don marked his fourth album and to me it marked him transitioning to a great rapper. Rick Ross just teamed with August Alsina to drop the Entanglement track, which adds to the Will and Jada drama. Teflon is the second biggest selling album in his discography as it only trails his debut, Port of Miami album. Less than two months before Teflon Don, Rick Ross dropped the dope Albert Anastasia EP mixtape. The year before, Rick Ross dropped his Deeper Than Rap album which was another great album. During the Deeper Than Rap album, Rick Ross was beefing with 50…

My playlists this week consisted of the King album from T.I., Compton by Dr. Dre and Usher’s Raymond vs. Raymond. UGK’s Ridin Dirty, the Idlewild soundtrack from Outkast and a personal Ice Cube Greatest Hits. This week, the featured track comes from neither of those as we’re going in another direction. For some odd reason, Roger Troutman and Zapp tracks have been in my head all week. For my Throwback Thursday, we’re going with his classic I Want to Be Your Man off his Unlimited! album. I Want to Be Your Man is an…

Naughty by Nature Feel Me Flow for Throwback Thursday

Once again, we have arrived at another Thursday. We’re one day closer to Friday and that means the weekend. The only album that was played this week was the Fuck Da City Up mixtape from T.I. I’ve had the week off and haven’t really been anywhere. For my featured Throwback Thursday, we’re going back to 1995. That year we had countless classics that dropped. Only Built for Cuban Linx, Me Against the World, Soul Food and plenty others were released. Of course, this was the middle of the second golden age of hip hop. Naughty by Nature released their fourth album, Poverty’s Paradise that year. As a matter of fact,…

Mr. Ku Born Threat for Throwback Thursday

My Mixtape Friday was one of my personal favorites I’ve ever done. The compilation was some of Georgia’s dopest hip hop records spanning about 30 years. OutKast, Goodie Mob, Raheem the Dream, T.I., Ludacris, Jeezy, Ghetto Mafia and Kilo Ali were among those included. Unfortunately, there are a lot of other artists who didn’t make the compilation. Many of my favorite tracks aren’t available on any streaming services which absolutely suck. One of those artists is my featured Throwback Thursday track and his name is Mr. Ku. Born Threat is the name of the record and it came out around the mid-90s. Born Threat from Mr. Ku appeared on several…

Best of Georgia Hip Hop for Mixtape Friday

For my first Mixtape Friday of the year, we had to do something special. Last week, we debuted the new track from Horus Gump and an idea came to me. Georgia has a lot of talent and have had their fair share of influential talent. We can go all the way back to Raheem the Dream, Kilo Ali and Freak Nasty. Outkast took the reins and became arguably the greatest duo ever in hip hop. The Dungeon Family and Goodie Mob became stars and Georgia hip hop was at an all-time high. T.I. and Ludacris took over that produced guys like Jeezy, Gucci, 2 Chainz and many more. With that,…

Usher Dropped Raymond vs. Raymond 10 Years Ago Today

It’s hard to believe that Usher has been in the game for over 25 years now. Usher hasn’t released a studio album in over 3 years. There are rumors that he’s working on a new album that could be released this year. Confessions is one of my all-time favorite albums. 10 years ago today, Usher released his sixth studio album, Raymond vs. Raymond. Overall, this was a great album that produced a lot of great tracks. A couple of them appeared on my Usher Greatest Hits playlist on Spotify. If you’re an Usher fan, you would probably agree with me on good this album was. The album went platinum and…
