One of the Best Yet from Gang Starr Album Released

Gang Starr is one of my favorite duos ever when it comes to hip hop. Hard to Earn is a certified classic that turned 25 earlier this year. DJ Premier is one of the greatest producers in my humble opinion. Guru is one of the coldest to ever touch the mic. Unfortunately, Guru lost his battle with cancer nine years ago. When DJ Premier dropped the Family and Loyalty track with J. Cole that brought back so many memories. Family and Loyalty was featured as a Music Monday track a little over a month ago. Guru had that commanding voice and his delivery is legendary. DJ Premier stated that there’s…

T.I. Paperwork Released 5 Years Ago Today

T.I. has had a lengthy and legendary career spanning almost 20 years now. T.I. have released a few classics along the way and even called himself “The King of the South”. 5 years ago today, T.I. released his ninth album, Paperwork. Jeezy, Rick Ross, Chris Brown, Pharrell Williams, Trae the Truth, The Dream and the late, great Nipsey Hussle appear on the album. While Paperwork isn’t on par with albums like Trap Muzik or Urban Legend, but it’s a good project. My favorite track off the album was probably G Shit featuring Jeezy. You can peep the video for G-Shit below. The three official singles released for this album featured…

Death Row is known for putting out classic albums. The Chronic, Doggystyle, All Eyez on Me and Makaveli are all-time classic records. Death Row Records is also known for their movie soundtracks also. Above the Rim is looked at as one of, if not the best soundtrack ever. Snoop Dogg created a little film for his track, Murder Was the Case. Death Row put out an official soundtrack and it was released 25 years ago today. Unfortunately, the Murder Was the Case Soundtrack isn’t available on any streaming services. Either way, we have to show love to another classic Death Row Records release. The soundtrack featured Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre,…

Gang Starr Family and Loyalty With J. Cole

First things first, rest in peace to the late, great Guru. Guru passed away in April 2010 from a long bout with cancer. Before passing, Guru released several solo projects and later formed Gang Starr with DJ Premier. Gang Starr is one of my favorite duos ever and when Guru passed, we all thought that was the end of Gang Starr. Moment of Truth is one of those albums that need to be in everyone’s collection. Royalty from Moment of Truth was featured as my Throwback Thursday track at the beginning of the year. Last week, Gang Starr premiered their first track in about 16 years. Let’s just say, it…

Classic Doggy Dogg World for Throwback Thursday

If you’re a fan of Snoop Dogg, this has been the place for you over the past week. Last week’s Mixtape Friday featured the Best of Snoop Dogg. The mixtape featured almost 100 of Snoop’s Greatest Hits. On Music Monday, you had the chance to stream his 17th album, I Wanna Thank Me. With this being Throwback Thursday, we might as well complete the trifecta. The featured track is from his iconic debut, Doggystyle. The track is Doggy Dogg World and it features the Dogg Pound and the legendary Dramatics. Of course, this is one of my all-time favorite hip hop and Snoop tracks. The song is dope and the…

Listen and Stream I Wanna Thank Me by Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg just released his unprecedented 17th solo album. I Wanna Thank Me was released this past Friday and the album isn’t bad. Slick Rick, Nate Dogg, Chris Brown, DJ Mustard, YG, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Duval and Russ appear on the album. The title come about when Snoop received his Hollywood Walk of Fame and thanked himself. At this point of his 25+ year career, Snoop can do or drop an album anytime he wants to. I Wanna Thank Me talks about everything from Nipsey Hussle to his friendship with Suge Knight. Overall, I Wanna Thank Me is a dope project as Snoop Dogg is still on top of his…

Listen and Stream Port of Miami 2 by Rick Ross

After much anticipation, Rick Ross finally released his Port of Miami 2 album. Port of Miami 2 is the follow-up to his classic, Rather You Than Me project. For me, Rick Ross is one of the more underrated rappers ever. On the last Mixtape Friday, we put together over 120 tracks for the Very Best of Rick Ross playlist. Port of Miami 2 makes this his unprecedented 10th studio album and 13 years since his Port of Miami debut. After listening a couple of times, Ross came through once again. After putting together such an impressive discography, we now can refer to Rick Ross as a legend. Nipsey Hussle, Lil…

Rick Ross Gold Roses Featuring Drake

Rick Ross is preparing to drop his unprecedented 10th album, Port of Miami 2. The follow-up to his Rather You Than Me will finally be released on August 9th. If Port of Miami 2 is near as good as Rather You Than Me, we all will be happy. Rather You Than Me was my second favorite album to drop in 2017. Actually, Rather You Than Me is my second favorite album from Rick Ross in his impressive discography. Recently, Rick Ross teamed up with Drake for his newest single, Gold Roses. If you look back at the history of these two on the same track, it has been amazing. From…

Nas is currently on Royalty Tour with Mary J. Blige and it will last through September. With Nas being my favorite rapper alive, this was something I’ve been looking forward to. Ghetto Mafia Draw the Line Released 25 Years Ago Today

Before Ludacris, T.I., Jeezy or Gucci you had rappers like the Ghetto Mafia. While Outkast was getting all the props and deservedly so with their Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, Draw the Line dropped. The debut from Ghetto Mafia was well-received around here. This was around the time where Atlanta music was transitioning from bass and club music to gangsta and more lyrics. Everyday Thang in the Hood featured the late, great MC Breed helped solidify Ghetto Mafia. Having someone like MC Breed in your debut album was major. At the time, Breed and Ghetto Mafia were on the same label. Either way, Everyday Thang in the Hood was a smash hit. While the…

Listen to My Top 5 Albums from Outkast

Last week for my Music Monday, we highlighted the top 5 albums from Rick Ross. This week we’re celebrating the legendary Outkast and their top 5 albums. Outkast haven’t put out an album since Idlewild, which was the movie they put out. The Speakerboxxx/Love Below album was the last official one that came out over 15 years ago. Big Boi have continued to put out solo projects and Andre 3000 been focusing on acting. From time to time, 3 Stacks have appeared on a few tracks throughout the years. Despite not putting out music over the years, people still talk about Outkast and they’re one of the best duos ever.…

Before I get started, let me just say that…

Rapper Nipsey Hussle Shot and Killed…..RIP

While enjoying the last game of the Elite 8, my son hit me with some news. Nipsey Hussle had been shot 6 times and his condition was unknown. A couple of hours later, the news came out that he had passed away. This was shocking because Nipsey Hussle was always doing things for his community. When you catch a Nipsey Hussle interview, you see how intelligent he was. For me, Nipsey Hussle caught my attention on the Crenshaw mixtape, which was amazing. On his track Dedication with Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle said he wanted to be the 2Pac of this generation. In a slight way, not because of his early…

Last week, we had the original King of the South in Scarface. T.I. have been calling himself the King of the South for quite a few years now. When he first started to call himself that, there were a lot of people taking excepting to it. Either way, over the years T.I. have earned that name with the great projects he’s released. T.I. been in the game for well over 15 years as he dropped his debut album in 2001. I’m Serious was his debut album and it was an instant southern classic. Because I’m Serious selling over 270,000 copies, T.I. was dropped from the label. In 2003, T.I. launched…

That was the first album with him, Willie D and Bushwick Bill together and the rest is history. The trio put out six albums, Scarface put out of 13 studio albums, two compilation projects and a couple of mixtapes. Listen to My Top 5 Albums from Nas

We kicked things off last week with the late, great 2Pac. This week, we’ll move to my favorite rapper alive and that’s Nas. Nas has been in the game over 25 years as he made his first appearance on a record in 1991. Live at the Barbeque by Main Source was the introduction to Nas. The verse on the track garnered so much attention for Nas and it landed him a record deal. In 1994, Nas dropped his debut album, Illmatic and it has been called one of the best hip hop records of all-time. Nas have released 11 albums, which include a double disc, 2 collaboration and 3 compilations…

2Pac is my favorite rapper, artist, musician or whatever you want to call it. Growing up my friends knew I was the smart one and was really into Black History at an early age. They discovered 2Pac before I did and told me to listen to his 2Pacalypse Now album. From then on, 2Pac was my favorite rapper and that haven’t changed 25+ years later. Since Music Monday have been nonexistent, we’re going to do things a little different. Every Monday I’ll do something with my favorite artists and their top albums. Of course, I’ll start things off with my top 5 albums from 2Pac. Me Against the World For…
