Sir Mix-A-Lot Posse on Broadway for Throwback Thursday

Let’s take a trip back to the 80s and the year 1988 to be exact. The original Golden Age of Hip Hop was 1988 seeing they produced a lot of classics. This is when I became a fan of hip hop due to the like of Eric B & Rakim. EPMD, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, KRS-One, Doug E. Fresh and many others made me a fan. Those artists that are mentioned have had a lot of love to this day and deservedly so. There are a lot of rappers that drop music that year and haven’t been shown the same love. One of those rappers is Sir…

C-Murder Bossalinie Released 25 Years Ago Today

C-Murder was one of the more popular rappers from No Limit Records. C-Murder is the younger brother of Master P and together they formed the group TRU with their other brother Silkk the Shocker. Unfortunately, C-Murder is serving a life sentence for shooting and killing a 16-year-old at the New Orleans Platinum Club in 2009. The rapper has been appealing his sentence and even Kim Kardashian has come to his defense. In November of 2023, his conviction was held up and will remain in prison. Before all that, C-Murder was one of the more established rappers on No Limit. In 1998, he released his debut album, Life of Death…

Rick Ross Mastermind Turns 10 Year Old

Rick Ross has had an impressive run ever since he entered the rap game. Ross was on the independent scene for a minute and was even signed to Suave House Records. After that didn’t work out, he inked a deal with Slip-N-Slide Records. For those who aren’t familiar with Slip-N-Slide Records, they are the home to Trick Daddy and Trina. In 2006, Rick Ross released his debut album called Port of Miami. Port of Miami featured his smash hit, Hustlin’ and it was arguably the biggest hit of the summer. Two years later, he followed that up with a gold selling album called Trilla. The following year he dropped his…

2 Chainz Rap or Go to the League Released 5 Years Ago

2 Chainz is one of the more accomplished rappers of this generation. Chainz got his start as Tity Boi, and he was signed with Ludacris as part of the Playaz Circle. In 2011, he decided to change his stage name to 2 Chainz seeing it as more family friendly. In 2012, 2 Chainz released his debut solo album titled Based on a T.R.U. Story. The album went platinum, and he became another big star in the Atlanta rap scene. Fast forward about seven years later and 2 Chainz released my favorite album from him. Rap or Go to the League was the name of the album and you can stream…

Scrappy No Problem for Throwback Thursday

Lil Scrappy first hit the rap scene about 20 years ago under the tutelage of Lil Jon. A little over 20 years ago, Scrappy & the group Trillville released their debut album. The King of Crunk & BME Recordings Present: Trillville & Lil Scrappy was released on February 24th of 2004. They both had great tracks and the album would go gold. Trillville would go on to have moderate success after the album. They released three more albums, but not as successful as their debut with the final project dropping in 2018. Lil Scrappy had a little more successful run after his debut album. Scrappy discovered Crime Mob and signed…

The D.O.C. The Formula for Throwback Thursday

In hip hop, there are a lot of “what ifs” that come to mind. What if Big L didn’t get killed early into his career? What would the rap game be like if 2Pac & Biggie didn’t pass away? How great Big Pun would’ve been if he didn’t pass away? One of the first ones that come to mind is the D.O.C. The D.O.C. released his debut album in 1989 called No One Can Do It Better. The album was released on Ruthless Records, and they were running the game at the time. Before Death Row, we had Ruthless and the D.O.C. album would go platinum. Months after its release,…

Kanye West The College Dropout Dropped 20 Years Ago

Kanye West is one of the most controversial musicians of all time. It feels like not a day goes by we don’t see or hear something crazy about Kanye. This is when people started saying we want the old Kanye back. Before all the madness and craziness with him, Kanye worked his way into the good graces of Roc-A-Fella Records. After producing some of Jay-Z’s classic Blueprint album he focused on his solo debut. The College Dropout was the name of his debut album, and it was released 20 years ago today. The College Dropout went on to win several awards for Album of the Year. The album went on…

First off, rest in peace to the late, great Gangsta Boo. She passed away a little over a year ago from a drug overdose. Twista dropped his first album back in 1992 under the name of Tung Twista. In 1994, he dropped his 2nd album called Resurrection, but only went by Twista then. Both albums didn’t get a lot of love, so we didn’t hear from him for a couple years. In 1996, Twista reemerged with Do or Die as he was featured on their smash hit Po Pimp. Due to the massive success of the single, Twista was back in the spotlight. The following year, he dropped his third album called Adrenaline Rush. Adrenaline Rush is considered by many, and I’m included to be a classic album. The album went platinum and Twista…

These days you can find Method Man on your TV screen than a microphone. Meth is most notable on the series Power Book II: Ghost, which is one of 50 Cent many shows. As we all know, Method Man is a part of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. The debut from the Wu Tang Clan is looked at as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Ludacris Child of the Night Featuring Nate Dogg

Recently, there was a discussion regarding who’s the most underrated rapper of all-time. One name came to my mind after plenty of thought and it was Ludacris. Ludacris can spit, he’s witty, has fun and can hit you with some crazy bars. Ludacris is more known for his roles in the Fast & Furious franchise over the years. Luda haven’t put out an album since 2015. He’s been teasing by putting out random freestyles on his Instagram page. Recently, he was honored with the Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Before that, he was listed as one of the 50 greatest rappers ever by Billboard magazine. This past week, one of…

Killer Mike just dropped one of my favorite albums this year in Michael. Michael is his 6th album and it’s a good album. Killer Mike is known more for his political stance and views he’s been sharing over the years. Mike recently teamed with T.I. to reopen a prominent seafood spot in Atlanta. While Mike has flexed his entrepreneurial skills, he’s been in the game for over 20 years now. In March of 2003, Killer Mike released his debut album called Monster. Monster debut at #4 and he boasted some big features on his debut joint. Outkast, T.I and Bun B all made appearances on Monster.  Mike dropped two singles…

Master P is known to the younger generation as this entrepreneur who has his hands in everything. Back in the 90s, we knew him as the colonel of the Tank. Master P was the owner of No Limit Records. No Limit Records is my second favorite rap label ever and Master P was dropping albums every month. 25 years ago today, Master P released his seventh album called MP Da Last Don. MP Da Last Don was billed as the retirement album from Master P. Master P enjoyed a crazy run starting with the Ice Cream Man album that put him on the map. Ghetto D made him one of…

50 Cent Position of Power for Throwback Thursday

It’s hard to believe that the Get Rich or Die Trying album turned 20-years-old a few months ago. To celebrate the milestone, 50 Cent announced a new tour called The Final Lap to commemorate the album’s anniversary. You can visit his website to the date and to purchase tickets when he hits your town. 50 Cent hit the scene and took the rap game by storm along with his G-Unit crew. Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo and even The Game all experienced success under the G-Unit umbrella. Unfortunately, 50 isn’t cool with them anymore except for Tony Yayo because it would be nice to see G-Unit on stage together.…

Eightball Dropped His Lost Album 25 Years Ago Today

If you followed southern hip hop in the 90s, then you are all too familiar with Eightball and MJG. Comin’ Out Hard was their Suave House Records debut album. They dropped that album in the summer of 1993, and it was an instant classic. The following spring, they dropped On Tha Outside Lookin’ In. On Tha Outside Lookin’ In was another instant classic and my personal favorite album of theirs. In the fall of 1995, they reached gold status with their On Top of the World album. On Top of the World was their most successful album and it produced Space Age Pimpin. Eightball and MJG would be a part…
