Eightball Dropped His Lost Album 25 Years Ago Today

If you followed southern hip hop in the 90s, then you are all too familiar with Eightball and MJG. Comin’ Out Hard was their Suave House Records debut album. They dropped that album in the summer of 1993, and it was an instant classic. The following spring, they dropped On Tha Outside Lookin’ In. On Tha Outside Lookin’ In was another instant classic and my personal favorite album of theirs. In the fall of 1995, they reached gold status with their On Top of the World album. On Top of the World was their most successful album and it produced Space Age Pimpin. Eightball and MJG would be a part…

Nelly Dilemma Featuring Kelly Rowland for Throwback Thursday

In the early-2000s, Nelly was one of the biggest rappers in the world. Even Jay-Z shouted him out on Excuse Me Miss. Jay mentioned that only his crew, Eminem and Nelly were moving units during that time. Nelly released his debut album Country Grammar in 2000. Country Grammar sold over 10 million units off the strength of four singles. Nelly also introduced the world to his St. Lunatics crew. Two years later, Nelly released his second joint titled Nellyville. Nellyville was another strong effort from Nelly. In my opinion, the second one is better than the debut project. The album went on to sell over 7 million copies and he…

The Roots have been putting it down for almost 30 years now. They hit the scene all the way back in 1994 with their From the Ground Up EP. Black Thought is one of the greatest rappers to ever touch the mic. Black Thought is listed as the 28th greatest rapper of all-time by Billboard magazine. There discography consists of fourteen studio albums, plus three collaborative studio albums, three compilation albums, two extended plays, and two live albums. In addition, that those joints, Black Thought has released three studio and three EPs also. In 1995 is when I became a huge fan of The Roots. The Do You Want More…

Fiend There’s One In Every Family Released 25 Years Ago Today

In 1998, No Limit Records was the hottest hip hop label in the world. Silkk the Shocker, C-Murder, Young Bleed, and the I Got the Hook Up Soundtrack all dropped at the start of 1998. All those joints dropped before the end of April. You know that Master P was dropping a new album damn near every other week. There’s One in Every Family dropped 25 years ago from Fiend. This was Fiend’s debut album on No Limit Records and it’s one of my favorite No Limit albums. Fiend made a name for himself by appearing on Ghetto D, Life or Death, Charge It 2 Da Game and other No…

The pair also had classic tracks on the Above the Rim and Murder Was the Case Soundtracks. The Dogg Pound released their debut joint Dogg Food back in 1995. Kurupt and Daz have also put out some great solo records over the years. Daz is one of the more underrated producers as he’s blessed some dope work on several Death Row releases. Natural Born Killaz by Dr. Dre & Ice Cube for Throwback Thursday

Let’s go back to my favorite time of hip hop and that’s the 90s. For this one, we will adventure over to Death Row Records. As many of you know, Death Row Records is my all-time favorite label. I’ve told you about the classic Death Row Records projects you should have in your collection. The Chronic by Dr. Dre started things off and it was followed by Doggystyle from Snoop Dogg. Doggystyle was such a huge album that Snoop made a short film surrounding the Murder Was the Case track. It also came with its own music soundtrack. I’ve stated for the longest it’s one of my favorite rap soundtracks…

C-Murder Released His Debut Life or Death 25 Years Ago

In the late-90s, No Limit Records was the hottest label in the rap game. During their run, they were known for releasing an album about every other week. Master P was a marketing genius because he would advertise upcoming releases in the booklet and on the back of No Limit releases. In 1998, No Limit Records was dropping classic album after classic. C-Murder released his debut joint called Life or Death 25 years ago today. Many people have said its arguably the best album released under the No Limit umbrella. Snoop Dogg Tha Shiznit for Throwback Thursday

Death Row Records is considered by many one of the greatest hip hop labels ever. It’s my personal favorite and it all began on the Deep Cover Soundtrack. Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg had the track Deep Cover on it, and it blew up. The following year, Dr. Dre released the iconic Chronic album. The Chronic changed the game and it viewed as one of the most important hip hop records of all-time. The following year, Snoop Dogg would release his much-anticipated Doggystyle album. Just like the Chronic, Snoop’s debut is looked at as one of the greatest hip hop albums also. We all know the outcome of Death Row…

AZ is one of the best rappers when it comes to his pen game. AZ first hit the scene with his classic verse from Life’s A Bitch off Illmatic from Nas. About a year and half later, he dropped his debut joint Do or Die. We all consider it a classic and on the album he and Nas reunited for Mo Money, Mo Murder. A couple years later, they formed the Firm with Nature and Foxy Brown to drop an album. While the album had a couple of good joints it was viewed as a disappointed and not living up to the hype. Nas and AZ teamed up a couple…

Scarface Dropped the My Homies Double Album 25 Years Ago Today

Scarface is known as one of the greatest rappers to ever touch the mic. On the controversial Billboard 50 greatest rappers list, Scarface finished 16th. I have never been upset about someone else’s list because its theirs. Scarface is my 3rd favorite rapper of all-time and the greatest MC to come from the south. Scarface first hit the rap scene with the legendary Geto Boys in 1988. The group released seven albums together and Bushwick Bill has passed away. Scarface embarked on a solo career in the fall of 1991. Mr. Scarface is Back was the name of the album and it’s considered a classic. Scarface have dropped 11 albums…

No Limit Records took baton in the late-90s as they were dropping albums every other week. After that, Roc-A-Fella Records was one of the labels that took off. Jay-Z and Kanye West lead the charge for the label by releasing classic after classic. While Jay & Ye got a lot of the attention they ventured to Philadelphia to grab some other talent. Beanie Sigel was the first one and he brought along his State Property crew. Freeway was one of the rappers from the City of Brotherly love to be…

It’s hard to believe that Nipsey Hussle is no longer with us. Nipsey was shot and killed on March 31. 2019. At the time, he was beginning to ascend into a superstar. The year prior, Nipsey released his only studio album Victory Lap. Victory Lap dropped 5 years ago today and it was an instant success for hip hop heads. The consumers didn’t run out and immediately support the project as it sold 53K the first week. The project was dope, but unfortunately the buyers didn’t pick up on it until he passed away. 2Pac Strictly 4 My Niggaz Released 30 Years Ago Today

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip hop, Billboard just released their 50 greatest rappers of all-time. Many people didn’t like it as expected, but I’m not getting upset over someone’s else’s opinion. Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar finished as the top-2 MCs ever and Nas, 2Pac and Eminem rounded out the top-5. If you have followed me over the years, you know that 2Pac is my GOAT and Nas is right behind him. Unfortunately, 2Pacalypse Now wasn’t played by me until after his second album. One of my friends introduced me to Pac’s music and instantly became a fan. 30 years ago today Strictly 4 My Niggaz was released. The…

50 Cent Hustler’s Ambition for Throwback Thursday

Welcome to another Thursday as that mean we are closer to the weekend. Once again, there was plenty of great music being played this week. Doggfather from Snoop Dogg, Carter IV by Lil Wayne, and the New Yo Gotti joint started things off. All Eyez on Me from Pac, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Greatest Hits and a personal compilation was also played. I Go That Work from the Big Tymers and the Festivus joint from Wale made a nice week of music. Like always, one of those albums could’ve produced my featured track this week. The last album that got some play was the Best of 50 Cent. The Best of 50…
