If you have followed me the last couple of weeks then you know that I and my family went on our family trip to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. When booking family trips we always try to go somewhere that has great attractions for the family whole being kid and teen friendly. Another important to us and well as most families is of course, how much money we will spend while on our vacation. My wife told me about the Wilderness of the Smokies and while at work I got the chance to check it out and I was definitely looking forward to our trip and our stay there also.

She was telling me that she’s heard great things from other bloggers about their trip there and the great time they shared with their families and how it was just great family fun altogether. My wife contacted them and asked if they were willing to be showcased on my site and Mommy’s Hangout and they were happy to, but the only thing we hated was since we had so much planned there we only stayed one night and day at the Wilderness of the Smokies. We enjoyed our stay so much and this will not be our last time visiting the Wilderness of the Smokies and the next time will be a much more extended stay.

To all the dads out there, please talk to your wives about giving Sevierville, Tennessee a shot to be your next family trip because there are so many things for the family to do and the city is breathtaking with the overview of the mountains. The location is perfect and it’s right outside Pigeon Forge and the Gatlinburg areas, so if you want to venture out to do more activities then you will have plenty to do.

When you’re staying at the Wilderness of the Smokies resort you may not want to leave because there’s so much to do from just enjoying the scenery, playing in the game room or enjoying the water parks. You may be thinking, this is a huge resort and the water parks will be jam packed with people? That’s not the case because there are 3 water parks; yes 3 water parks that contain slides, pools, water attractions and you can do some tubing also. Admission to the water park is complimentary with your stay at the Wilderness of the Smokies!!

Fun at the Wilderness of the Smokies

You don’t have to wait for the summertime to make the venture to the Wilderness of the Smokies because of the indoor park and they have so many activities from the jungle gyms with sprayers and squirt guns to the surf rider simulator. When you’re outside you have the lazy river, plunging vertical free fall drop slide and exclusive private cabanas equipped with TVs.

There’s more to the Wilderness of the Smokies than the waterparks because they have a plethora of activities inside like laser tag, rock climbing, ropes course, thrill rides, and black light mini-golf. You can also play in the arcade where they have bowling or you can enjoy the climbing gym. White water rafting, golf and pottery are some more activities which is overseen by a great staff. If that’s not enough for you to stay they also provide various discounts and tickets for several local attractions.

Entrance and Bedroom at the Wilderness of the Smokies

Now we finished talking about all the fun stuff to do at the Wilderness and now what about the sleeping arrangements? How are the rooms there? They have the basic king or two-queen bed to private villas that sleep up to 16 people, which is perfect for groups small and large! Our room was the Bunk Suite and this was perfect for us, the kids loved it and we had a great view to the water park also. With so many activities we had planned we didn’t get to enjoy any extended time in our room though.

If you’re thinking about venturing out to grab something to eat, don’t worry about it because they have you covered with various grills, snack bars, delis and even a restaurant. If you decide to eat at the restaurant, if you have a child 12 years or younger, they eat free with a paying adult. With my kids, they’re really picky and already had an idea where they wanted to eat so we didn’t eat there and I’m also cheap, yeah I admit that I’m cheap and the prices were a little high.

My Final Thoughts:

I must say that this was probably the most fun we’ve had as a family in a long time. This was something we needed because the kids had a long year in school and I’ve been working so much overtime that it was great to have fun with each other. We thought that everything was going to be bad because it was raining but we really enjoyed ourselves in the indoor park until the sun appeared. It was crazy because it would rain for a few minutes then it would stop and then it continued for almost an hour and we were going from the indoor to the outdoor park every time.

The kids were enjoying themselves so much that I decided to jump in the water and play with them in the tubes, which is something I NEVER have done before so they really got a kick out of me doing that. The outside park closed at 8pm and then we ventured over to the indoor park that closed at 10pm. Afterwards, we headed back to our room to freshen up and watch the NBA Finals game. Luckily for the girls we had 2 TVs so they didn’t have to watch the basketball game with us and they could watch whatever they wanted. As soon as the game was over we were all knocked out until the next morning when we had to check out and had the option playing in the water park but we had so much planned for that day and didn’t have a chance to go back.

We all were pretty upset that we made so many plans because we would’ve been great just staying there but we will return and next time it’ll be for more than 1 day. So if you’re looking for the perfect summer getaway for the entire family, this is the place you need to be and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg to go there either. However, let me add that tickets for attractions at adventure forest are NOT included but resort guest get a discount rate off 50% off.
