Monday Night Raw Review from Houston for July 2014

Monday_Night_RawHere’s another edition of Monday Night Raw from Houston, Texas where we get to see the direction with less than 3 weeks away from Summerslam. Last week, Raw was really good and hopefully the WWE can continue the momentum with several storylines developing and we have 1 match that’s official and that will be John Cena defending the WWE World Title against Brock Lesnar. What will happen the week after Stephanie McMahon was sent to jail for striking Brie Bella? Let’s Get Started!!!!!

Good

Opening Segment: This was a different direction with John Cena opening the show when usually it’s the Authority doing the honors. Cena talked about facing Lesnar @ Summerslam and then Paul Heyman showed up that lead to a great promo from him. But Cena returned the favor by delivering a fiery promo, which was different from the playful promos Cena usually gives. That brought Cesaro who ripped Cena calling him a walking billboard, K-Mart shoes and saying he can’t wrestle. Great stuff!!!!!

John Cena vs. Cesaro: Things started out slow, but it picked up really quickly and it turned into a really good match, which was expected. Just don’t understand what they’re doing with Cesaro and I fear they’re dropping the ball with him.

AJ and Paige: I have a feeling they’re going to have one of the better matches @ Summerslam. It seems like Paige brought out some old memories by calling AJ crazy, which prompted her to attack Paige.

Segment with Triple H, Stephanie & Chris Jericho: The segment wasn’t special but it brought back old memories when Jericho used to rag on Stephanie all the time and he was about to continue what he was doing until Rollins attacked him and Triple H said that Rollins will face Jericho later.

Usos & Dolph Ziggler vs. Rybaxel & The Miz: The was a pretty good 6-man match and it was good seeing Ziggler pick up the win. The big development was Kofi, Xavier Woods & Big E coming down to view the match which could be the beginning of a feud with the Usos in the future.

Segment with Lana/Rusev and Swagger/Colter: Lana came out & cut a promo dissing America, the people, Obama & George Bush before Swagger & Colter came out. Colter cut a great promo that got the crowd going and that lead to Swagger coming down and fighting with Rusev. Rusev had the upper hand until Swagger caught him and had him in the Patriot Lock before Rusev retreated.

Roman Reigns vs. Kane: The match never happened because Orton attacked him when he was coming to the ring. Reigns took the advantage until Kane chokeslammed him and then Orton took advantage of the situation. Orton beat the hell out of Reigns and finished him off with 2 sick RKOs on the announce table and breaking it.

Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho: This was a really good match between these 2 as expected and the end came when Jericho hit the Codebreaker on Rollins when he jumped off the top rope. When he was going for the pin, the Wyatts appeared and beat him down.

Brie Bella/Stephanie McMahon Segment: The rumored match between Stephanie and Brie is now official. Stephanie is one of the best heels in the business, period. Brie got her sister Nikki a raise and her job back in the process with Stephanie agreeing to have a match with her @ Summerslam if she dropped the charges. Stephanie proceeded to slap Brie off the apron and Brie returned to the ring and fought with Stephanie that until agents and Triple H broke them up while the crowd was chanting “this is awesome”. Great segment!!!!! What if Nikki turned heel on Brie for all the troubles she went through while she was gone?

Bad

Bo Dallas vs. R-Truth: Don’t know why Truth would be the one to defeat Dallas first? Could be to get a mean streak out of him?

Natalya & Naomi vs. Cameron & Alicia Fox: This wasn’t a good match because Cameron is still sloppy in the ring and she’s being featured seeing she’s feuding with her former partner.

Ugly

Damien Sandow vs. Adam Rose: Sandow came out dressed as an astronaut and was quickly beat by Rose. Sandow deserves so much better, I mean he’s a former MITB winner and had a really good mini-feud with John Cena.

Fandango vs. Diego: This stuff with Fandango against Layla and Summer Rae is beyond annoying.

Backstage Segments with Goldust & Stardust: Those are really becoming annoying now.

Overall Rating: 6.5/10- This Raw wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. We got a really good match between Cesaro & Cena, which was after some great promo work between Paul Heyman, John Cena and Cesaro. The Paige/AJ feud was turned up a notch after Paige called her crazy & the feud between Lana/Rusev &Colter/Swagger continues to impress. The Orton beatdown of Reigns was needed because their feud has been mostly 1 sided with Reigns always getting the best of him. Before being interrupted the Jericho/Rollins match was really good and the night ended good with the segment with Brie & Steph.
