Getting Prepped for Summer with XFINITY

It’s hard to believe that summer is just around the corner. Getting ready for summer early can prove beneficial, especially for those who have children at home over summer break. Get prepped now and save time, money, and energy all summer long. April is a great time to get ready for summer fun, and here’s how you can do it.

Fine-tune your Cable and Internet services

Let’s face it when the kids are home that means they spend many hours watching TV or surfing the web. So now is the time to see if your provider is currently providing you everything that you need and want! I know I have seen a lot of hype about Google Fiber coming to our area soon so I decided to do my own research to see if it was something that would benefit our family better than our long term provider XFINITY. However, I will be honest I seriously didn’t see what all the hype is about! We are really happy with our services, so we won’t be changing.

However, since we watch more TV during the summer, I do upgrade our TV packages to get more channels. Plus, being on the go its very important to us that we have access to wifi-hot spots! With millions of the fastest hot spots nationwide, XFINITY is the only provider who makes it easy to stay connected at all your favorite places at NO additional cost. Save on your wireless plan by streaming with XFINITY all over the country – you can’t do that with Google Fiber!

Set your DVR Programing up now!

We’ve got beautiful weather here in Atlanta, and we are going to enjoy it any time we can! With X1 DVR, we can take our favorite recordings on the go to enjoy anywhere, anytime! (you can’t do that with Google Fiber So that was a big turn off) So I am making sure I set up our favorites now! The X1 DVR allows for 500 GB of storage, meaning you’ve got tons of shows and movies at your fingertips after downloading!

Additionally, this is the perfect time to make sure your kid’s tablets or iPods are fully loaded with games, TV shows and movies to keep them entertained during a long car ride; this is a life saver while traveling with younger kids! My three-year-old niece will be coming down from Maryland this summer, which is a 12-hour drive, so we are making sure she has her Doc McStuffins to watch!

Plan, plan, plan

Plan events for the summer months by checking out local Facebook groups, the tourist bureau’s website, and church calendars. You could plan lots of great, free events for yourself and your kids this summer based on these resources. Make a calendar of the events you want to check out, and if any cost a fee begin setting that aside. Most events for kids over the summer are free, though, so that can save you a good bit.

Make a routine

You may not have events each day, but you can still pack a full summer’s worth of fun into each week by coming up with a solid routine. If you don’t have one, now is time to plan one and start testing it out. You can schedule meals, walks, crafts, and more in the routine so that your kids still have some idea of a schedule while not being in school.

Gather crafts

There are tins of crafts that can be done with old materials. Now is the prime time to start sticking away scraps of paper, fabrics, tin cans, and any other craft materials you’d like to use. Wash it all, dry it, and place it in a bin for future use when those summer days get a little too long.

Save, Save, Save

Now is the best time to start saving, too. You can set aside money each week to use for summer events, surprise ice cream dates, and groceries that may cost more when you have all kids’ home each day.

Meal prep

You don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen all summer, so start meal prepping now. Make baggies of fruit and yogurt for smoothies. Simply put all ingredients in the bags and freeze them! Make freezer dinners and lunches, prep bins for quick breakfasts and snacks, and organize your pantry and fridge. By doing this, you can save lots of money by buying in bulk, and you can keep on track with eating great food at home instead of grabbing food when you are out and about.
