Welcome to the second week of the college football season and this one doesn’t possess the amount of great games as the week before where it was dubbed, the Best Opening Weekend of College Football ever. As a matter of fact, this week doesn’t really have any great games on the schedule with the exception of maybe one game, but that’s it. Last week could’ve been better, but it certainly could’ve made a turn for the worse with my 4-4 record. This week I’ll only be predicting three games and I’m hoping to improve my record and winning percentage going into the next week. Let’s get this started!!
The big game of the weekend has to be the Virginia Tech Hokies facing the 17th ranked Tennessee Volunteers from Bristol Motor Speedway. The Hokies are hoping to get back to prominence in the ACC and be mentioned with Florida State, Clemson and Miami; this could be a huge step by beating Tennessee, who’s been favored of winning the SEC East. Can they pull off the upset? On the other hand, Tennessee certainly has something to prove seeing they dropped eight spots in the rankings after barely getting by Appalachian State. Can the Volunteers rebound and make a statement against the Hokies? I think the Volunteers will beat the Hokies in this one.
Tennessee Win 34-24
This is a pretty big rivalry game between a pair of teams from Pennsylvania as the Penn State Nittany Lions face the Pitt Panthers at Heinz Field. The Nittany Lions is another team that’s trying to get back to prominence in the Big Ten after losing their QB to the NFL. Penn State beat Kent State last week, but this will be a much tougher task for them and it’s against a rival. The Panthers won their season opener against Villanova, plus they got a boost with the returning James Connor, who was battling cancer. Pittsburgh will also be honoring the 1976 National Championship team and I think they’ll beat the Nittany Lions in an upset.
Pittsburgh Win 30-28
The final game will feature the Arkansas Razorbacks visiting the 15th ranked TCU Horned Frogs. The Razorbacks were another SEC team that had a scare as they barely escaped Louisiana Tech. With this game on the road against a top-15 team, Arkansas will have to play damn near the perfect game to beat the Horned Frogs. Was the close game last week a fluke or is that who the Razorbacks are? The Horned Frogs was locked in an offensive battle last week as the beat San Diego State 59-41 and their high octane offense is still intact despite losing Treyvon Boykins. I’m going with the Horned Frogs to beat the Razorbacks in this battle.
TCU Win 41-27
