Welcome to the 14th and final week of predictions, which are mostly conference championship games? Last week my record was 5-0, which upped my overall record to 49-21. In the process, my winning percentage jumped from 67.7% to my goal of 70%. There’s no time for celebration because I’m hoping to maintain that winning percentage moving forward. After the epic Michigan-Ohio State, the Wolverines dropped out of the top 5 of the new college football playoff rankings. With the Michigan loss, Washington crept into the top 4 as they’re ranked fourth. We can say that Alabama is a lock to make the playoffs even if somehow they were to lose to Florida in the SEC title game. Ohio State is probably a lock also because they’re not in their conference title game. Washington and Clemson must still win this title games to secure their spots in the playoffs. Let’s Get Started!!
This is a battle for the Pac-12 championship as the 9th ranked Colorado Buffaloes face the 4th ranked Washington Huskies. Colorado defeated Utah last week to earn the right to play in the title game. With Colorado ranked 9th in the college football playoff rankings, can they still make the playoffs if they upset Washington? The Buffaloes have enjoyed one of their best seasons in quite some time; do they have enough fire power to beat the Huskies? With Washington, all they have to do is win and they’re in the playoffs. They earned the right to play in the title game by beating rival, Washington State. Will the Huskies offense continue to dominate along with their defense? This will be a tough one, but I think Washington will beat Colorado and secure a playoff spot.
Washington Win 34-27
This one is for the Big-10 championship as the 6th ranked Wisconsin Badgers face the 8th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. I’ve said numerous times to others that I think the Badgers are one of the better teams in the country. I’ve went as far as saying that I’d love to see them face Alabama, which doesn’t mean I think they would beat them. With Wisconsin ranked 6th in the playoff rankings, if they were to blow out Penn State, could they catapult over Michigan? Of course that would mean a loss for Clemson and Washington to make that happen. With Penn State, they’re having one of their best seasons in a long time and I’m glad to see it. The Nittany Lions have always been one of those premier programs, but I believe the Badgers will prevail in this match-up.
Wisconsin Win 26-21
We find our way to Atlanta for the SEC title game between top ranked Alabama and the 15th ranked Florida Gators. Alabama remain the lone undefeated team in the Power 5 conferences and they’re pretty much guaranteed a playoff spot no matter this outcome. There have been a lot of chatter about Alabama needing to lose a game, but Saban shut that down real quick saying losing is never a good thing. With the Tide dominating on both sides of the ball all year, does Florida even stand a chance? The Gators stumble into this title game after being dominated by the Seminoles the previous week. For some odd reason, I still think the Gators match up really well against the Tide and I’m thinking this will be a good game. In the end, Alabama will run away in the 4th quarter to capture another SEC championship.
Alabama Win 27-13
You can say this is for the Big-12 championship even though it not being a title game. In this huge rival game we have the 11th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys visiting the 7th ranked Oklahoma Sooners. While many people are talking about the Sooners; let’s look at the Cowboys for a minute. Oklahoma State should come into this game with only loss because of the debacle earlier in the year against Central Michigan. How high would they be ranked if it wasn’t for that? They have good wins against Pittsburgh and West Virginia, but this could be their redemption game. After losing two of their first three games, Oklahoma possesses one of the best offenses in the country. If Oklahoma can beat the Cowboys, they’re guaranteed to play in one of the top bowls. With this being a home game for the Sooners, I’m going with them to win.
Oklahoma Win 45-35
The final game of the weekend will be out of the ACC. The 3rd ranked Clemson Tigers will take on the 19th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. It’s really simple for Clemson, if they win, they’re in the playoffs. The Tigers have possessed the most consistent offenses in the conference as they’re lead by Heisman candidate, DeShaun Watson. Can he cap his great career with another ACC championship? Virginia Tech would love to play spoiler by capturing the ACC title and ending the playoff hopes of Clemson. The Hokies must play their best game on both sides of the ball to make that happen. In the end, Clemson should pull away from Virginia Tech, claim another title and head to the playoffs.
Clemson Win 38-24
