Welcome to Week 2 of the NFL season and things started out bad for me. My record was 5-4, which could’ve been must worse as I started with an 0-3 record. After the first week, my winning percentage is 55.5% as this isn’t the way I wanted to start things. My college football picks have been great so far, but I’m hoping things will get turned around quickly. Last week, New England lost their home opener against the Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams looked great against the Colts. Of course, that’s only the opening week of the season and those results don’t mean too much, or do they? This week I’ll be predicting 7 games with the hopes of doing better than I did last week. Let’s Get Started!!!
This week’s Thursday night game will see the Houston Texans visit the Cincinnati Bengals. After 1 week, Tom Savage has been replaced by Deshaun Watson at QB. The Texans offense looked atrocious last week against the Jaguars giving up a total of 10 sacks. With the offensive line looking the way they did, Houston must turn to Watson as he can make plays with his feet. Can the Texans rebound from their embarrassment from a week ago? Speaking of being embarrassed, Cincinnati played an overall awful game against division foe, Baltimore. Andy Dalton had one of the worse games I’ve ever seen by a QB. He can only improve this week and I’m picking them to take care of Houston at home.
Cincinnati Wins 24-17
After beating the Jets, Buffalo will travel south to face the Carolina Panthers. It seemed like Buffalo was pretty much going to tank this year after they traded Sammy Watkins. In the offseason, Stephon Gilmore left for New England and Ronald Darby was traded to Philadelphia. In return, they received a good receiver in Jordan Matthews from Philadelphia and the defense doesn’t look too bad. Can they pull off the upset in Charlotte against the Panthers? In his return from shoulder surgery, Cam Newton didn’t look well at all, but the defense is back to championship form or at least it seems. Can the Panthers keep up the momentum against this Bills team? I’m going with Carolina to hold things down at home and maybe Christian McCaffrey will come up big.
Carolina Wins 28-14
We have Andy Reid taking on his former team as the Kansas City Chiefs hosts the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia opened the season with an impressive road win against division foe, Washington. The front 7 of the Eagles defense is just as good as anyone else’s in the league. Carson Wentz displayed why he’s projected to be an elite QB in the future, but he still has a way to go. Arrowhead Stadium is a tough place to play, can the Eagles pull off the shocker against the Chiefs? Kansas City probably had the most impressive win during opening week over the Patriots on the road. Justin Houston was dominant and Alex Smith opened up the offense with the long ball. Kareem Hunt, the rookie from Toledo had an impressive debut and I think they will give the Eagles secondary a tough time and win.
Kansas City Wins 31-17
After an impressive Monday night win at home over the Saints, Minnesota travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. Everything went right for the Vikings on Monday as Sam Bradford was efficient and Dalvin Cook showed why some thought he was the most complete back in the draft. Cook rushed for over 120 yards, breaking the Minnesota rookie record for most yards in an opening game held by Peterson. The defense looked great once again, but how will they fare against the Steelers. Pittsburgh had their hands full in their opener against the Browns as LeVeon Bell was nonexistent. Antonio Brown had a huge game and the defense made some key stops to edge by the Browns. This should be a hard-hitting game and I think the Steelers will barely get by the Vikings.
Pittsburgh Wins 23-21
We head to the Mile-High City as the Denver Broncos hosts the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas opened the season with an impressive and dominating performance against the New York Giants. With the Ezekiel Elliott situation still looming over the Cowboys, they are continuing to look like Super Bowl contenders. Can Dak Prescott continue to shine in this Cowboys offense? Will Ezekiel play a huge part in this game against the tough Broncos defense? Denver opened the season with a tough win over the Chargers Monday night avoiding a last-minute meltdown. Will Trevor Siemien avoid mistake against the pesky Cowboys defense? Can the Broncos defense contain the Dallas offense? This is one tough game to pick, but I think the Cowboys will steal one from Denver.
Dallas Wins 26-24
This is the Sunday night game as the Atlanta Falcons hosts the Green Bay Packers. The Sunday night game will be the official opening game for Atlanta in their new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is amazing. Last week, Atlanta struggled against the Bears as they only put up 20 points, which isn’t normal for this offense. There’s several factors that could play into why this happened, but I don’t see it lasting. Can the Falcons repeat their last performance against the Packers? Green Bay opened their season with a tough win at home against the Seattle Seahawks. The Packer defense looked great, but Seattle’s offense isn’t there strong point and Rodgers made enough plays to overcome that defense. I’m thinking Atlanta will give Rodgers fits Sunday night and they should leave with the win.
Atlanta Wins 35-24
We have two playoff hopefuls facing off as the New York Giants hosts the Detroit Lions. First off, New York is probably praying that Odell Beckham Jr. can return to action this week. The offense looked out of sync and downright awful in their Week 1 loss to Dallas. On the other hand, the Giants defense looked great, but they were on the field way too much throughout the game. The key to this game is Beckham and if you thought he wasn’t worth the money he’s wanting, he is, but not elite QB money though. Detroit started off on the wrong foot, but Matthew Stafford and the Lions turned up on the Cardinals. Can Stafford repeat that performance against the tough Giants defense? I’m going with the Giants to find a way to put a few points on the board and maybe get help from the defense to win.
New York Wins 27-21
