I’ll be the first to tell you that I’ve never took skincare seriously. From the time as a teenager to young adulthood and even to my late-30s, skincare was something I didn’t even consider. For the past three years, no name it, most likely I’ve tried the different skincare products. While I’ve tried my fair share of great products in the process, that isn’t the only thing to give your skin the healthy look. The beginning of the year, I’ve got my first-ever appointment with the dermatologist. Now that I’ve reached the age of 40, there are a few things I’m doing to hopefully make my skin look as healthy as possible after all the years of doing damage to it. Below are 4 things to hopefully make your skin look healthier as you get older.
Read the Labels
This is something I can’t stress enough because the skin care products you use is catered to your skin type. For instance, if you’re someone who has issues with acne, then you may want to use oil-free cleansers and moisturizers. Since my skin is sensitive, my choice is usually the oil-free or the non-comedogenic, so it doesn’t clog up my pores. Look out for the products that’s labeled unscented because usually they contain a masking fragrance that’ll irritate your skin. Wash Your Face Daily
You think about how much you sweat throughout the day, plus the wear and tear it has for your face. Make sure you’re washing your face and please do not use regular soap you use to clean your body. Soap contains ingredients that will dry out your skin. When washing your face, use a mild facial cleanser while using lukewarm water. Many guys don’t realize the importance of having a proper shaving technique. Before you shave, wet your skin and hair to soften it. Use a moisturizing shaving cream and shave in the direction of hair growth. Rinse after each swipe of the razor, and change your blade after five to seven shaves to minimize irritation. If you often experience razor bumps, razor burns or ingrown hairs, use a single- or double-blade razor instead and do not stretch your skin taut while shaving.
Moisturizer works by trapping water in your skin, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and make your skin look brighter and younger. For the best results, apply moisturizer to your face and body immediately after bathing, showering or shaving while the skin is still damp.
