Another day, another No Limit Records release will be celebrating its anniversary. 20 years ago today, the late, great Soulja Slim released his No Limit Records debut album. Give It 2 Em’ Raw was the name and man did he drop some heat. Before that, he was known as Magnolia Slim and actually appeared on the Down South Hustlas compilation Master P put out a few years before. Give It 2 Em’ Raw is viewed as one of the better releases from No Limit Records. Of course, it featured all the No Limit Soldiers, but I really wish No Limit and Cash Money supported each other. Some of you might not know that Soulja Slim and BG from Cash Money has always been tight. As a matter of fact, they sound a lot like each other. From What I Was Told was the first single off the album.
From What I Was Told was also a featured track on the I Got the Hookup Soundtrack. The soundtrack was released about six weeks before Soulja Slim dropped his debut album. Unfortunately, he went to jail for probation violation, so he could never promote the album. For me though, it’s not about sales, but quality and this was a great album. Some other great cuts included: Street Life, At the Same Time, Pray for Your Baby, Head Buster and Me & My Cousin. You Ain’t Never Seen, Anything, Imagine, Get High with Me, Law Brekaz and What’s Up What’s Happening. As you see, the album was stacked with hits. Unfortunately, on November 26, 2003, Soulja Slim was gunned down in front of his mom’s house. After death, he finally had the number one song in the country, which was a collaboration with Juvenile on Slow Motion.
