Welcome to Week 4 of the NFL season as this will be the finish of the first quarter of the season. Last week was a good one for me as I finished with a 7-3 record. My overall record jumps to 15-12 and in the process my winning percentage goes over 50. The winning percentage goes from 47.1 to 55.6%. It was good to see the Cleveland Browns finally pick up a victory last Thursday night. The Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions pulled off huge blowout upsets over the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots. The game of the week had to go to the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints. We saw the Saints win on the road and Calvin Ridley had a coming out party. This week I’ll be predicting another seven games with the hopes of raising my winning percentage higher.
As always, we start off with the Thursday night game and this should be a great one. The Minnesota Vikings head to Los Angeles and battle the Los Angeles Rams. Before the season started, this was my NFC Championship game. The Vikings haven’t looked great thus far as they are 1-1-1 and should be 1-2. Both sides of the ball haven’t lived up to their potential and things have gotten worse. Can they head to Los Angeles and pull off the upset against the best team in the NFC? As mentioned, the Rams are the best team in the NFC with a high-powered offense and stingy defense. It looks like they’ll be without Pro Bowl CBs Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters. Will that hurt them against the Vikings? The Vikings have to get on track eventually, but it won’t be this game.
Los Angeles Win 38-28
We have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears. The Bucs finally tasted defeat on Monday night, but Fitzpatrick still threw for over 400 yards. With Jameis Winston returning from suspension, who will start this game? Many would think that you would continue to ride the hot hand and keep Fitzpatrick in at QB. How will he fare against the tough and stingy defense of the Khalil Mack led Bears? Chicago has sure enjoyed their new acquisition in Khalil Mack. The Bears come into this game leading their division with a 2-1 record. If the Bears didn’t have a meltdown in their opener, they’d be undefeated now. Mitchell Trubisky have to play better if this Bears team is going to make noise in the NFC. I’m picking the Bears to pressure Fitzpatrick and pick up the win.
Chicago Win 31-21
We head to Tennessee as the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Titans in a huge matchup. This will be the second week Carson Wentz is under center after returning from injury. The Eagles offense should get a boost as Alshon Jeffrey should play after being cleared from shoulder surgery. The defensive side of the ball is starting feel the injury bug as Rodney McLeod is out. Can the Eagles defense contain Marcus Mariota enough to leave with the win? The offense of the Titans was non-existent last week against Jaguars. Then again, that could be said about damn near everyone that faces them. Tennessee have had their share of injuries, but they still manage to have a 2-1 record. They are a magnificent home team and I’m expecting them to beat the defending world champs in a close. Low scoring game.
Tennessee Win 20-17
We head to this AFC East matchup where we have a surprising team on top. The 3-0 Miami Dolphins will head to Foxboro and face the 1-2 New England Patriots. Miami is undefeated because of the big play on offense and the tough defense. The Dolphins defense is giving up a little over 17 points a game, which ranks 6th in the league. Miami will have to pressure Brady and keep an eye on Gronk at all times. Can they remain undefeated? New England is in the midst of a two-game losing streak and they looked horrible last week. Could we see the debut of Josh Gordon this week? Can the Patriots rebound and beat the undefeated Dolphins? I’m rolling with the Patriots to win this huge game.
New England Win 30-20
We head to New York for what should be a battle between two future Hall-Of-Fame QBs. New Orleans and Drew Brees will head to the Big Apple to face Eli Manning and the Giants. New Orleans is coming off a hard-fought win over their rival, Atlanta Falcons. Michael Thomas will try to continue his record-setting start to the season. The Saints offense has been amazing as Drew Brees has played great. Can the Saints head to New York and leave with a 3-1 record? New York finally picked up their first win this season last week against Houston. If the offensive line plays better, this could be one of the more dynamic offenses in the league. I’ thinking the Giants will play great against the Saints and win this game.
New York Win 30-28
If you’re looking for a physical game, this Sunday night one is for you. The Baltimore Ravens will travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. Baltimore is coming off an impressive win over the Broncos last week. Joe Flacco has played great this year thus far. John Brown has been a welcomed addition to this Ravens team as he’s helped Flacco a lot. Can this Ravens offense continue to soar and put up big numbers? Pittsburgh finally picked up a win Monday night against the Bucs. With that offense, without LeVeon Bell they are still one of the best in the league. Whenever these two teams play each other, anything can and usually happens. I’m picking the home Steelers to beat the Ravens.
Pittsburgh Win 23-20
We have arrived at the Monday night game between two AFC West rivals. The undefeated Kansas City Chiefs head to Mile High Stadium to face the Denver Broncos. Through three games, you can say that Patrick Mahomes has been the league MVP. Kansas City is arguably the best team in the AFC right now and the offense just has too many weapons. How will Mahomes hold up against Von Miller and that Broncos defense? The one thing that can keep the Chiefs from exploding is keeping them off the field. Denver possess one of the better running teams in the league and if they can do that, they have a chance to win. I’m looking for the Broncos to run the ball a lot and pull off the upset over the Chiefs.
Denver Win 27-24
