Welcome to Week 15 of the NFL season and things are starting to heat up. There were some crazy games last week and some playoff football being played. In a potential playoff preview, the Chiefs barely escaped with a win over the Ravens at home. I’m a huge fan of defense when it comes to football and we peeped two masterful performances. The Chicago Bears shutdown to the high-powered offense of the Rams and forced Jared Goff to throw 4 INTs. In a battle between the two leaders of the NFC Wild Card, the Seahawks shutdown the Vikings on Monday Night to take sole possession of the Wild Card spot. I’ll be predicting 7 games this week and last week my record was 6-2. My overall record jumps to 64-38 and my overall winning percentage jumps from 61.7 to 62.8%. Let’s get started!
We kick things off with a Thursday night game with so much at stake. The 10-3 Los Angeles Chargers visit the 11-2 Kansas City Chiefs with so much on the line. This battle between two AFC West Super Bowl contenders have a lot riding on this one. The winner of this game will have the edge in the division and most importantly, the top seed in the AFC. In Week 1, Kansas City won the opening game against the Chargers, but a lot has happened ever since. Patrick Mahomes is looking like an MVP candidate and Philip Rivers is still one of the more underrated QBs in the league. Kansas City is experiencing a lot of injuries coming off the physical game against Baltimore. Tyreek Hill could be the deciding factor as he’s still expected to play.
Melvin Gordon could be another factor in this game as he’s missed the last two games. The Chiefs and Chargers are stepping things up on the defensive end as the Chiefs are 2nd in the league in sacks. Los Angeles has a premier rusher in Joey Bosa and Derwin James is a beast in the secondary and favorite to be Defensive Rookie of the Year. This is a tough call, but it’s hard to win at Arrowhead but Los Angeles is the team that could do it. In the end, Mahomes will make some unbelievable play to pull the Chiefs past the Chargers.
Kansas City Win 34-31
We head to the NFC North for this game as the Green Bay Packers visit the division leading, Chicago Bears. The week after the firing of Mike McCarthy, Green Bay’s offense looked great against the Falcons. On the other side of the ball, the defense looked great against one of the better offenses in the league. The Packers still have an outside shot at making the playoffs, but they need to win out and get some help. Can the Packers go to Soldier Field and upset Chicago? The defense of the Bears has been the talk of the league throughout the season. Khalil Mack is a legitimate candidate for Defensive Player of the Year and league MVP. The offense of the Bears will need to step up if they want to be a legit Super Bowl contender. They can clinch the division with a win over the Packers and they’ll get it to eliminate the Packers from playoff consideration.
Chicago Win 24-17
This is a match-up of two teams that are headed in the right direction. The Dallas Cowboys will hit the road to face the Indianapolis Colts. After falling to 3-5, the Cowboys have reeled off five consecutive wins. The trade for Amari Cooper has proven to be more than worth it. Cooper is coming off a 3 TD performance which included the game-winner in OT. Ezekiel Elliot is one of the best backs in the league and Dak Prescott is putting up substantial numbers. The Colts rebounded after being blanked by Jacksonville to end their 5-game winning streak. After ending the 9-game winning streak of the Texans, the Colts are two games behind them and tied with three other teams for the final Wild Card spot. I’m going with the Colts to upset the red-hot Cowboys.
Indianapolis Win 23-21
We have another battle between two playoff hopefuls. The Miami Dolphins will travel to Minnesota to face the Vikings. The Dolphins are one of four teams in the AFC battling for the final spot of the Wild Card.Miami is riding a two-game winning streak after that improbable walk-off win over their AFC East rival, New England. The Dolphins have only won one out of five roads games this season. Could they upset the Vikings on the road in the cold? Minnesota is one of the most disappointing teams in the league. After signing Kirk Cousins, Minnesota was one of the Super Bowl favorites along with the Saints and Rams coming into this season. They have lost three of their last four games, but they still hold on to the final Wild Card spot. I’m going with the Vikings to get back on track against the Dolphins.
Minnesota Win 31-21
This is a match-up between two teams that were Super Bowl contender at the beginning of the season. The New England Patriots will travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. New England is coming off a tough loss on the to Miami on the improbable play. The Patriots are still in the hunt for a 1st round bye, but the Texans are breathing down their necks. New England can clinch the division with a win and Miami loss. Can the Patriots avoid a 2-game losing streak? Pittsburgh is in danger of missing the playoffs after dropping their 3rd game in a row. They still lead the division, but they still face the Saints the following week. The Steelers have issues with the Patriots and think they’ll lose again.
New England Win 30-28
We head to the Sunday night game as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Los Angeles to face the Rams. Both of these teams have a lot at stake coming into this game. The Eagles are facing elimination from playoff consideration with a loss. These two had a great battle at this same place and it’s also where Carson Wentz suffered the injury to his knee. With three games left, the Eagles have a tough path as they face the Texans next week in their home finale. Can Wentz and the Eagles find a way to upset the Rams? Los Angeles is coming off their worse performance of the year against the tough and physical Chicago Bears. Jared Goff tossed 4 INTs and Todd Gurley was held in check. The loss dropped the Rams back into a tie for home field advantage in the playoffs with the Saints and New Orleans owns the tiebreaker. The Rams will need to win out and have the Saints lose a game if they want that home field advantage. With the Eagles secondary depleted, Los Angeles should bounce back nicely. I’m picking Jared Goff and the Rams to beat Carson Wentz and the Eagles in a battle of the top 2 picks of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Los Angeles Win 34-21
The final game of the week is of course the Monday Night game. We have a battle of NFC South teams as the New Orleans Saints will travel to Carolina to face the Panthers. New Orleans have already clinched their 2nd consecutive NFC South crown and now hoping for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. They control their own destiny as all they have to do is win out. The offense finally came alive last week in Tampa after a blocked punt turned that game around. Drew Brees is hoping to continue his run at a possible MVP award as he’s had an amazing season. Can the Saints give the Panthers their 6th consecutive loss? After going to 6-2, Carolina was looking like a team that was ready to make some noise. They have lost five games in a row and there’s questions about the shoulder of Cam Newton. Christian McCaffrey has had an amazing season, but the team is in a horrible slump. Despite having lost five in a row, the Panthers are still a game out of the final playoff spot. Carolina can end their losing streak, have hopes of a playoff berth and hurt the Saints chances for home field advantage with a win. If you’re a Panthers fan, this isn’t happening because the Saints will win.
New Orleans Win 31-24
