2019 NBA West Semifinal: Golden State Versus Houston

2019 NBA West Semifinal: Golden State Versus Houston

We now have all the conference semifinal games finalized after the Nuggets barely got by the Spurs in Game 7. In the East, the Toronto Raptors and Kawhi Leonard dominated the 76ers in Game 1 of the East semifinals. In what many are saying the most anticipated series, the Warriors will battle the Rockets for the second consecutive year. The Los Angeles Clippers took the defending champion Warriors to six games before succumbing to Golden State. Houston had a few days to rest as they beat the Utah Jazz in five games. As we all know, Houston had Golden State on the ropes as they were up three games to two. The final two games were in Houston, but Chris Paul had an injured hamstring and Harden came away with a couple bad nights. With the Rockets finally beat the Warriors this year to advance?

How Golden State Can Win?

First off, Golden State will need to be healthy for this series. We know they’ve lost DeMarcus Cousins for the remainder of the playoffs so that’ll effect their inside defense. Klay Thompson and Steph Curry injured their ankles in Game 6 and they’re questionable for Game 1. Kevin Durant will have to continue his onslaught he’s been on as he scored 50 points in the series clinching game against the Clippers. While the Warriors are infamous for their offense, their defense will be key in this series. We know that James Harden can off any minute, that’s why he’s a favorite to win MVP once again. Chris Paul, Clint Capela and Eric Gordon are capable of going off at any given time. If the Warriors can slow them down, score like they’re capable of doing and be healthy, they should advance.

How Houston Can Win?

The Rockets have all the confidence in the world that they can beat the Warriors. Actually, the Rockets have been wanting this matchup in the playoffs. The uncertainty of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson plays into the hands of the Rockets. While the Warriors will be the favorites, the lack of a bench could come back to haunt the defending champs. If you remember, the Rockets won the season series against the Warriors and the Rockets are healthier than the Warriors this time. The Houston Rockets live by the three and they’ll die by the three. If the Warriors aren’t healthy, they wouldn’t be able to chase down the Rockets 3-point shooters. James Harden will need a big series like he’s capable of but haven’t had those postseason successes like his regular season success. The Rockets can win if Paul is healthy and they continue their great play.

Who Will Win?

All four of the conference semifinal series will be great, but this is the one everyone is looking forward to. Will the ankle injuries of Steph and Klay haunt the Warriors in this series? Can the Rockets finally beat the Warriors? Will Kevin Durant continue his scoring onslaught against the Rockets? Houston and Golden State have become sort of a rivalry with both looking forward to this series. This should be an epic series and could possibly go another seven games like last year. Can James Harden break his cycle of less than average playoff performances? In the end, I’m looking forward to the series as people will think this is the conference finals. I’m going with the Warriors to barely edge the Warriors in Game 7 to advance.
