The opening weekend of the NFL season lived up to the hype. The Packers defense shut to the Bears in the opener last Thursday. Patrick Mahomes picked up where he left off with an impressive performance against the Jaguars. Lamar Jackson shut down the critics for a week with his performance against the Ravens as they thrashed the Dolphins. New England destroyed Pittsburgh and this coming week; Antonio Brown will join an already stacked receiving core. The Saints won a thrilling Monday night game over the Texans due to a 58-yard field goal as time expired. In the second game, Oakland put all the drama aside and beat division rival Denver. Last week, my record was 6-3 which is good after an awful start. I’ll be going into Week 2 on a five game winning streak.
My winning percentage is 66.7% and I’ll be predicting a total of 8 games this week. Let’s go ahead and get things started!
Our Thursday night matchup is a battle between two NFC South rivals. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel north to Carolina to face the Panthers. Tampa Bay is coming off a disappointing loss against the 49ers in the opener. The Buccaneers defense looked great throughout the game, but Jameis Winston made some costly mistakes including a pick six. Can Winston fix his mistakes and lead the Bucs to the road win? The Carolina Panthers also opened the season with a loss. Carolina lost to the defending NFC champs, Los Angeles Rams in a close game. The Panthers defense need to improve from their opening game performance. Who walks away with the early season, division rival matchup? I’m going with the Panthers to win and even their record.
Carolina Win 24-20
We stay in the NFC and head to the NFC North for this one. The Minnesota Vikings will travel to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers. The Vikings are coming off an impressive opening win over the Atlanta Falcons. Minnesota played a damn near flawless game on both sides of the play. The defense stifled the high-powered Falcons offense and had Matt Ryan frustrated all game. The offense played well but will need to improve on some things. The Packers shocked everyone with their fresh look defense as they beat the Bears. We all are looking to see how this offense will play out with the new coach. Can Green Bay continue their impressive play on defense? Will Minnesota repeat their opening game performance? In the end, I’m going with the Packers to win a close game.
Green Bay Win 20-17
We’re heading to the AFC and to the AFC South to be exact. The Indianapolis Colts will travel to Nashville to face the Tennessee Titans. The Colts lost on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime, but they should’ve won. Adam Viniteri uncharacteristically missed a pair of field goals and even an extra point in the game. Indianapolis still look like a playoff team despite the abrupt retirement of Andrew Luck. The Tennessee Titans is coming off one of the more impressive wins of opening week. The Titans smashed the Browns on the road, and they did it with a stingy defense and efficient offense. Tennessee is one of the teams that could beat anyone and I’m going with them on Sunday.
Tennessee Win 31-20
We head back to the NFC for this matchup between two hated NFC East rivals. The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Washington to face the Redskins. Dallas looked really impressive in their win over the New York Giants. While Dak is still looking for a new deal, he showed the Cowboys why he’s deserving of a new contract. The defense was as aggressive as ever as they frustrated the entire Giants offense throughout the game. The Washington Redskins looked great in their loss against the Eagles. The offense came out hot and the defense will surprise quite a few people this season. Will the Redskins be able to put together a complete game and beat the rival Cowboys? Dallas should go into Washington and leave with the win.
Dallas Win 31-17
We head out to the west coast for this AFC West matchup. The Kansas City Chiefs travels to Oakland to face the Raiders. The Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes picked up where last season left off with an impressive performance. After one game, it’s safe to say that Patrick Mahomes is still looking like an NFL MVP. The big concern for the Chiefs has to be Tyreek Hill being out with an injury. With all the weapons on offense, Kansas City shouldn’t suffer. Oakland held it down in their opener on Monday night by beating the Broncos. The Raiders defense and offense looked great in their win, but can they continue it? While the Raiders impressed in the first game, they won’t be able to contend against Kansas City.
Kansas City Win 35-21
We have a rematch of the 2018 NFC Championship game. The New Orleans Saints travel to Los Angeles to face the Rams. The Saints are coming off an impressive win over the Texans on Monday night. New Orleans won the game on a 58-yard field goal from Will Lutz. As we all know, New Orleans is looking for revenge since the Rams beat them in the NFC title game. Can the Saints beat the Rams to avenge their controversial loss in the title game? The Rams are coming off a cross-country trip in their opener to beat Carolina. Los Angeles still look like one of the best teams in the league. In the rematch of the NFC title game, who comes away with the win? I’m rolling with the New Orleans Saints to upset the Rams on the road.
New Orleans Win 31-30
We have the Sunday night game and one that I’ll have the pleasure of going to. The Philadelphia Eagles will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons. Philadelphia is coming off a tough, come from behind win over the Redskins. The Eagles and Falcons have faced each other a lot over the years despite not being in the same division. The Eagles offense finally came alive late in the second quarter and went on to put up 32 points. Atlanta is coming off an embarrassing loss in Minnesota in Week 1. One good thing is that Julio Jones finally received his much deserved contract. The Falcons run defense and offensive line will need to improve by Sunday night. With this being a Sunday night game and their home opener, Atlanta should come away with the win.
Atlanta Win 31-21
We have the Monday night game between two teams who loss their openers. The Cleveland Browns will travel to New York to face the Jets. The Browns were the talk of the town before the season started. After Week 1, Cleveland is still the talk of the NFL but for all the wrong reasons. In their home opener, Cleveland was blown out by the Titans. Baker Mayfield tossed three picks and Odell Beckham Jr’s watch are the talks of Browns camp. The New York Jets dominated the Buffalo Bills for most of the game. They held a 16-0 lead, but when the game was over, they lost 17-16. Can the Jets rebound on Monday Night to beat the Browns? Will Cleveland get their swag back and head to New York to beat the Jets? I’m rolling with the Browns to beat the Jets on the road.
Cleveland Win 27-17
