What an embarrassing Week 5 of predictions on my end. My record was 3-6, which thanks to the Niners spanking the Browns I’ll go into Week 6 with a winning record. My overall record dips to 21-20 and in the process my winning percentage goes from 56.3 to 51.2%. In Week 5, we saw Deshaun Watson and Christian McCaffrey emerge as MVP candidates. My Thursday night woes continued as the Seahawks upended the Rams. The Buffalo Bills continues to make their case for best defense with their win over in Tennessee. The Bears defense looked suspect in London as they fell to the Oakland Raiders. Green Bay shocked a lot of people by going to Dallas and beating the Cowboys without Devante Adams.
On Sunday night, the Colts edged the Chiefs in a surprise defensive battle. On Monday night, San Francisco proved they’re legit by decimating the Cleveland Browns. We will be predicting another nine games this week with the hopes of staying above .500. Let’s get started!
As always, we’ll start with the Thursday night game. The New York Giants will travel to Foxboro to battle the New England Patriots. The Giants are coming off a beatdown handed to them courtesy of the Minnesota Vikings. The loss to the Vikings was the first game the Giants fell with Daniel Jones as the starter. The Giants have always played the Patriots tough, but this is a different team. The Giants will be without Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram. The Patriots are one of two remaining undefeated teams in the NFL. Last week, they pummeled the Redskins in Washington. Can the Patriots continue to dominate and beat New York on Thursday? I’m picking the defending champs with the hopes of ending my Thursday night woes.
New England Win 38-17
We head to the NFC South for this key matchup. The Carolina Panthers travel to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers. After starting the season 0-2, Carolina switched QBs and have won three in a row. Kyle Allen have played mistake free ball and Christian McCaffrey is looking like a legit MVP candidate. In their win against Jacksonville, McCaffrey put the team on his back and lead them to the win. The formula for Carolina has been simple, find ways to get McCaffrey the ball. With the Panthers trailing the Saints by a game, they need to keep pace while Brees is out. Tampa Bay is coming off a tough loss in New Orleans. Despite the loss, Tampa Bay has showed they have one of the more explosive offenses in the league. Can the Bucs find a way to slow down McCaffrey and pressure the rookie QB? The Bucs Win!
Tampa Bay Win 31-28
We head to Cleveland for this one as the Browns host the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle is coming off a tough, hard-fought win last Thursday against the Rams. Seattle is looking like one of the top teams in the NFC. Russell Wilson has added his name to the list of MVP candidates with his stellar play. Can the Seahawks continue their winning ways on the road against Cleveland? The Browns were embarrassed by the 49ers on Monday night. The defense couldn’t slow down the Niners. Baker Mayfield and the offense couldn’t mount any offense against the tough 49ers defense. Mayfield had an impressive performance after an embarrassing one the last time, could he do it again? I’m going with the Browns to have a bounce back game.
Cleveland Win 27-24
We have a huge AFC battle between two of the best young quarterbacks in the league. Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans travel to Kansas City to face Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. The Texans are coming off of decimating the Atlanta Falcons and putting up 53 points. With a healthy Kenny Stills, the Texans can make an argument for the best receiving core in the league. Arrowhead Stadium is one of the toughest places to play, can the Texans hand Kansas City their second consecutive loss there? Kansas City is coming off their first defeat of the season. The ankle injury to Patrick Mahomes is the first order of concern for the Chiefs.
As we clearly saw in the Colts game, the mobility of Mahomes is what makes him so special. On the other side, can the Chiefs defense slow down the Texans offense? This is a tough one, but I don’t see the Chiefs losing two in a row. With this being at Arrowhead, I’m going with Kansas City.
Kansas City Win 34-30
We head back to the NFC and this is a rematch of the 2017 NFC Championship game. The Philadelphia Eagles will travel to Minnesota to battle the Vikings. The Eagles have won two games in a row coming into this one. Philadelphia is hoping to get Desean Jackson back after missing four games. The defense looked like they were in championship form last week against the Jets. How will the secondary hold up against one of the better receiving tandems in the league? Two weeks ago, Minnesota’s offense looked horrible against the Bears. The Vikings looked much better against the Giants last week. With Dalvin Cook looking like one of the better running backs, will that help the play action game? Can the Vikings get revenge for the 2017 championship game loss? I’m picking the Vikings to hold off the Eagles in a tough one.
Minnesota Win 27-20
We have the New Orleans Saints traveling to Jacksonville to battle the Jaguars. The Saints seem to have found their groove with Teddy Bridgewater at the helm. Bridgewater looked amazing last week in the Saints win over Tampa Bay. The Saints defense is legit, but the Buccaneers showed they have flaws in it. Can the Saints continue their winning ways as Brees recover from his thumb injury? Jacksonville almost came away with the win last week in Carolina. Minshew is the real deal as he has this team, they can win any game. Will Jalen Ramsey play this game as he still wants to be dealt? Leonard Fournette have looked like the running back they were looking for when they drafted him. With or without Ramsey, Jacksonville will have a tough time containing that Saints offense. I’m rolling with New Orleans to notch another victory.
New Orleans Win 28-24
We head out west for a critical matchup in the NFC West. The undefeated San Francisco 49ers head to Los Angeles to battle the Rams. The 49ers currently lead the division with the Seahawks a game behind and the Rams two back. San Francisco is coming off an impressive win on Monday night against the Browns. The offense looked good, but the defense is on another level. Can they remain the only unbeaten team in the NFC? The Rams have hit a snag as they’re currently on a two game losing streak. Los Angeles is hoping to get back to their Super Bowl swag and it need to start with this game against their division rival. Can the Rams get their act together and end their two game losing streak? I’m rolling with the Rams to end their losing streak.
Los Angeles Win 24-21
We head back to the AFC for the Sunday night game. The Pittsburgh Steelers will head out west to battle the Los Angeles Chargers. The Steelers are coming off a heartbreaking loss at home to Baltimore in overtime. Despite being 1-4, the Steelers are in a division that no one is dominant and not running away with things. With Mason Randolph being out, the Steelers will need to rely on James Connor and the running game. Can the Steelers head out west and beat the Chargers? As far as the Chargers, surprisingly they’re sporting a 2-3 record. They’re coming off a devastating loss at home to the Denver Broncos. Los Angeles should be able to lean on Melvin Gordon more this game as he’s getting more acclimated in the offense. The Chargers have experienced their fair share of injuries, but I’m thinking the Chargers will leave with the win.
Los Angeles Win 27-17
We have the Monday night game between two NFC North rivals. The Detroit Lions travel to Lambeau Field to battle the Green Bay Packers. Both of these teams have only one loss, but the Lions have a tie on their record. Detroit is coming off their bye week and they went into it with a loss at home to Kansas City. The Lions are trying to continue to position themselves to challenge for the division title. If this is going to happen, this is a huge game for their confidence. Can the Lions go to Lambeau Field and upset the Packers? Green Bay is coming off an impressive win in Dallas last week. Aaron Rodgers have always wanted a running game and it looks like he has one now. Aaron Jones had a career game as he rushed for 4 TDs and 182 total yards.
Will Devante Adams return from his toe injury for this game? Can the Packers create a little distance in the division with the win? I’m going with Green Bay to win this one on Monday night.
Green Bay Win 31-21
