Welcome to Week 7 of the college football season. We finally have some football weather in Georgia now. My record was 3-1 last week, which boosted my overall mark to 16-5. My winning percentage slid down from 76.5 to 76.2%. My only defeat came when the Florida Gators beat the Auburn Tigers in a battle of the undefeated. The Gators rose three spots to #7 in this week’s rankings and they get to travel to LSU as a reward. We have three other games featuring ranked teams battling each other. The 6th ranked Oklahoma Sooners battle the 11th ranked Texas Longhorns. The top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide travels to Texas to battle the 24th ranked Texas A&M Aggies. We also have the undefeated 10th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions traveling to Iowa to battle the 17th ranked Hawkeyes. I’ll be predicting a total of seven games this week.
This could potentially be the matchup in the SEC Championship. The 7th ranked Florida Gators travel to the Bayou to battle the 5th ranked LSU Tigers. Florida surprised a lot of people and me included when they beat Auburn. Florida used their stingy defense and running game to upend the Tigers. Can the Gators repeat that same feat against the LSU Tigers? I’ve said for the past couple weeks that I think LSU is the best team in the nation. For years, they’ve had a dominant defense, but the offense was suspect. With Joe Burrow, the LSU offense is one of the better ones in the country. Can they continue their great play against the tough Florida defense? This is tough, but I’m rolling with LSU to win this one.
LSU Win 30-20
We have the annual Red River Showdown and this one has a lot of implications. The 6th ranked Oklahoma Sooners will battle their rival Texas Longhorns as they’re ranked 11th. Jalen Hurts is looking like the leading Heisman candidate since the opening game. The Sooners offense is once again one of the best in the nation. This will be the toughest test for this Jalen Hurts lead squad. How will the Sooners defense fare against the Longhorns offense? The Longhorns come into this game with one loss on their record. Texas loss against to the LSU Tigers and they managed to put up 38 points. We all know that the Longhorns can score, but can they slow down the Sooners offense? I’m rolling with Jalen Hurts and the Sooners to come away with the win.
Oklahoma Win 41-31
We head back to SEC country and another matchup of top-25 teams. The top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide travels to Texas to meet the 24th ranked Aggies. The Crimson Tide have been dominating both sides of the ball in all their games. As much as the Tide defense get talked about, peep the offense. Tua is as efficient as you get at the quarterback position, but he has three future first round picks at the receiving position. Can the Tide continue their dominant ways against the Aggies? Texas A&M is looking to have their season and with a win over the Tide it could just do that. The Aggies defense is really good, but Mond makes too mistakes on offense. Can Jimbo Fisher come up with a game plan to pull off the huge upset? I’m picking the Tide to roll over the Aggies.
Alabama Win 35-24
Let’s take a trip up north for a top-20 matchup between two Big Ten teams. The 10th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions will travel to Iowa to battle the 17th ranked Hawkeyes. Penn State is perhaps the most slept-on team in the nation. They have been dominating on both sides of the ball and they’re still undefeated. Can the Nittany Lions go to Iowa country and leave unbeaten? Iowa is coming off their first loss last week as they fell to Michigan in a defensive battle. Can Iowa’s defense continue to play lights out against Penn State? Will the Hawkeyes hand the Nittany Lions their first defeat? This is a tough one, but I’m picking Iowa to escape with the upset.
Iowa Win 24-23
We have one of the best rivalries in college football in this game. The USC Trojans will travel to Notre Dame to battle the 9th ranked Fighting Irish. The Trojans are coming off their bye week with rumors swirling about the future of Coach Helton. The Trojans have had their fair share of injuries at the quarterback position alone. With all the issues facing the USC program, can they upset the Irish on the road? Notre Dame is still looking at winning the rest of their games with hopes of a college football playoff berth. The Irish defense is dominant, and the offense is one of the more physical ones in the country. I’m finding it hard to think the Trojans will upset Notre Dame.
Notre Dame Win 38-21
We head back to the Big Ten conference for this matchup. The Michigan State Spartans will travel to Wisconsin to battle the 8th ranked Badgers. The Spartans are coming off an embarrassing loss on the road to Ohio State. The Spartans have hopes of getting to the conference title game, but they’ll need this win over the Badgers. Do the Spartans have enough fire power to upset the Badgers? Wisconsin have looked like one of the best teams in the country. Jonathon Taylor is looking like he’s going to make a run at the Heisman Trophy. This will be a game won in the trenches, but which team have the advantage. I’m going with the Badgers to leave this game still undefeated.
Wisconsin Win 30-17
The final game of the week takes place in ACC country. The Florida State Seminoles travel to Clemson to face the 2nd ranked Tigers. The Seminoles have won two in a row and the defense have looked great. On offense, with Hornibrook they looked efficient and had a groove to them. With James Blackmon returning to start at QB, can he lead the Seminoles to the huge upset? Clemson is coming off their bye week, which came after they were almost upset by North Carolina. With the time off, can the Tigers return to their championship form? Will Trevor Lawrence eliminate his mistakes and have a flawless game? I’m picking the Clemson Tigers to roll all over Florida State.
Clemson Win 41-21
