30 years ago today, Biz Markie released his second album The Biz Never Sleeps. Biz Markie was one of the pioneers of the original Golden Age of Hip Hop in the 1980s. Biz Markie was a part of the legendary Juice Crew alongside Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap and Roxanne Shante. While Biz loves to play around, he’s one of the more talented musicians to grab the mic. The Biz Never Sleeps went on to go gold and the only single released from the album is my featured track. Just a Friend is my Throwback Thursday track and it’s a classic, catchy tune. Just a Friend eventually went platinum with the track showing Biz Markie’s humorous and storytelling sides. Just a Friend brings me back to my childhood because this was one of my favorite songs.
