Welcome to Week 11 of the college football season. The college playoff rankings were unveiled for the first time Tuesday and the top 4 shocked a lot of people. Clemson was left out of the top 4, but I understand because the Tigers schedule hasn’t been great. My record last week was 4-1, which improved my mark to 32-8. My overall winning percentage remains at 80% and hopefully things remain that way. In the big game from a week ago, Georgia took control of the SEC East with a win over Florida. The Memphis Tigers handed the SMU Mustangs their first defeat in an epic game. Oregon and Utah continue to prove they’re the cream of the crop in the Pac-12. The Ducks beat down the USC Trojans on the road and the Utes took down the Huskies. Florida State fell to Miami and fired Coach Taggart the following day.
We have a pair of games pitting undefeated teams against each other. The 2nd ranked LSU Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa to battle the 3rd ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The 4th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions will head to Minnesota to battle the 17th ranked Golden Gophers. In total, I’ll be predicting a total of five games this weekend. Let’s get started!
This is the game of the year and this has major playoff implications. The 2nd ranked LSU Tigers will travel to Tuscaloosa to battle their rival, 3rd ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. In years past, LSU always had one of the best defense and the offense was the issue. This year, things are totally different because they have one of the best offenses in the country. Joe Burrow comes into this game as the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy. For Alabama, it’s all about the health of their star QB, Tua Tagovailoga and his high ankle sprain. The Crimson Tide bolster the best receiving core in the nation with 3 potential first round picks. Both defenses have holes in them, which one will make key plays. Can the Tigers beat the Tide on the road? I’m going with the Tigers to barely escape Tuscaloosa with the win.
LSU Win 31-30
We have another battle between undefeated teams in the same conference. The 4th ranked Penn State Nittany Lions travels to Minnesota to face the 17th ranked Golden Gophers. This could potentially be a preview of the Big Ten Championship game. The Nittany Lions is currently tied with Ohio State atop of the East division. Minnesota currently hold a two game lead over Iowa and Wisconsin. Penn State have surprised many this season. Can they continue their undefeated as they face the Buckeyes in two weeks? Minnesota have surprised many with their 8-0 record and Coach P.J. Fleck just inked a new 7-year extension. The Gophers tough part of their schedule begins now. Can they slow down the great offense of Penn State? Will they be able to penetrate the Nittany Lions defense? I’m still riding with the Nittany Lions to still be unbeaten after this game.
Penn State Win 27-20
We stay in the Big Ten Conference for this top-20 matchup. The 18th ranked Iowa Hawkeyes will travel to Wisconsin to battle the 13th ranked Badgers. The winner of this game still has a shot at reaching the Big Ten Championship game. The winner of this game still has to face Minnesota and they’re hoping Penn State defeat them. Iowa boasts one of the better defenses in the conference. Can they beat the Badgers on the road? Wisconsin was talked about as one of the potential playoff teams a month ago. Jonathon Taylor was a potential Heisman candidate, but they lost two games in a row. The Badgers are hoping to salvage their season by reaching the conference title game. This should be an entertaining game and I’m picking Wisconsin to win.
Wisconsin Win 27-17
We head to the Big 12 Conference for this key matchup. The Iowa State Cyclones will head to Norman to face the 9th ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The Cyclones had their 3-game winning streak come to an end last weekend. Iowa State fell to Oklahoma State in a tough game, but they can rebound in a major way with a win over the Sooners. Iowa State possess one of the best passing offenses in the country. Oklahoma is coming off their bye week. The week before Oklahoma was upset at the hands of Kansas State and that hurt their playoff chances. Despite the loss and all the chaos that’ll happen in college football, Oklahoma isn’t out of playoff consideration. The Sooners need to be careful and not suffer anymore defeats. I’m thinking the Sooners will win in a major way against Iowa State.
Oklahoma Win 41-24
We stay in the Big 12 Conference for this game. The 16th ranked Kansas State Wildcats travels to Texas to battle the Longhorns. Kansas State is currently on a 3-game winning streak. The Wildcats rely on their running game as they rank in the top-25 in the country. Will they be able to run against the tough Longhorns defense? Can the Wildcats make it four in a row? Texas haven’t been the same ever since they lost to Oklahoma. They barely edged Kansas the following game and allowed 48 points to the Jayhawks. They’re coming off a 37-27 loss on the road to TCU. Can Texas turn things around and finished the season strong? I’m picking the Longhorns to upset the Wildcats.
Texas Win 35-31
